Welcome to the University of New Hampshire, located in beautiful rural Durham. Resembling a typical New England liberal arts college but with the advantage of being a research university, the University of New Hampshire consists of a graduate school and the following seven colleges: Business and Economics, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Health and Human Services, Law, Liberal Arts, Life Sciences and Agriculture, and the University of New Hampshire at Manchester. The 12,000 undergraduate students enrolled can choose from more than 100 majors like Environmental Engineering, Journalism, Neuroscience & Behavior, Occupational Therapy, and Theatre and Dance. Thompson Hall

Designed in the late 1890's by a prominent architectural firm in the Romanesque Revival style, Thompson Hall is named after Benjamin Thompson, who donated his assets after his death to the creation of an agricultural college that eventually became the University of New Hampshire. Today, Thompson Hall is the primary administration building where you will find many offices such as Graduate Admissions and that of the University's president.

Dimond Library

Dimond Library is the main library on campus, providing students with many quiet study areas, a café, community work spaces, wireless internet, and computer areas. There is a large collection of government documents and rare print materials, and the Dimond Academic Commons (DAC) serves students in need of media equipment or general technology assistance. If you can't find what you're looking for, the Dimond Library belongs to the Boston Library Consortium, meaning that you can borrow materials from 16 other colleges and universities.

Kingsbury Hall

Here we are at Kingsbury Hall, home to the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. A recent $52 million renovation added larger classrooms and communal spaces, increasing the building's size to an impressive 110,000 square feet. Another welcomed addition is the library within: there are four science libraries on campus, and Kingsbury Hall now houses the one specializing in engineering, mathematics, and computer science. Like Dimond Library, there is wireless internet throughout the building, collaborative work areas, and many computers.

Memorial Union Building

If you're looking for the center of student life outside of the classroom, you'll find it here in the Memorial Union Building. With over 26,000 square feet of space, this building features conference rooms, a game room, 2 movie theaters, bookstore, food court, mailroom, computer store and repair center, lounges, and the Wildcat's Den, a room conducive to concerts as well as meetings. In addition to all of the above, the Memorial Union Building is also home to many of the 200 student groups and organizations on campus, providing both office and meeting space. Organizations include fraternities and sororities, in which 9% of the student population participates.

Holloway Commons

Holloway Commons is the main dining facility on campus and it prides itself on serving local food grown in sustainable ways. Open seven days a week, you can choose from sushi, pizza, omelets, stir-fry, noodle bowls, a salad bar, the "Euro Kitchen," and even a unique vegan "station." Dotting the calendar are events like community picnics, family weekend brunches, and an annual Apple Harvest Dinner. Holloway Commons serves up approximately 69,000 meals a week!

Smith Hall

Smith Hall was the first dormitory built exclusively for women, with construction reaching completion in 1908. Today it is one of the smaller co- ed residence halls, housing students from all classes. When the school year begins, the "Big Smithie-Little Smithie" program welcomes and introduces new students to Smith Hall, and programs throughout the year like pajama parties, Karaoke, apple picking, and carnival celebrations make for a fulfilling and enjoyable place to live.

Congreve Hall

Close to the center of campus as well as the athletic facilities, Congreve Hall houses approximately 276 students from all the undergraduate classes. Renovated in 2003, rooms come in single, double, and triple configurations, and there are now many lounges for socializing and relaxing. Congreve Hall is a welcoming and exciting place to live, with a list of events held throughout the year including barbecues, game nights, "de-stress socials," and coffee houses.

Whittemore Center

The Whittemore Center, home of the Wildcats, the name of the University's athletic teams, features an arena seating 6,500 for the nationally ranked ice hockey team. Because of its size and versatility, it also hosts concerts, with seating capabilities up to 7,500. Students compete in NCAA Division I sports, which include basketball, cross-country, soccer, swimming, and women's volleyball. If you are looking for a recreational pursuit on the club level, you can participate in archery, baseball, fencing, sailing, and ultimate frisbee, just to name a few.

James Hall

James Hall, a building primarily used by the earth science, natural resources, and environment departments, was named after Charles James, who studied rare earth elements. In 2010, it achieved LEED certification after a renovation and expansion that upgraded the building in many ways. James Hall now boasts a "green roof" for plants and water conservation efforts, a heat wheel recovery system that encourages efficient air processing, an outdoor classroom, and a lighting mechanism that utilizes daylight in lieu of electric light when appropriate.

Hamilton Smith Hall

Located near the Memorial Union Building and Thompson Hall, Hamilton Smith was originally the library, courtesy of a collaboration between Andrew Carnegie and a Durham resident, Hamilton Smith. Today, Hamilton Smith Hall serves as an academic building for many departments, including English and Philosophy. On the bottom level is the Connors Writing Center, which offers writing services to the entire University community. In addition, the Center's writing consultants can help you prepare oral presentations and some services are even available online.
