Payne Family Native American Center

The Payne Family Native American Center honors Montana's Indigenous population as the first facility in the nation to house a Department of Native American Studies and the American Indian Student Services office. UM strives to provide a welcoming and inviting environment for all Indigenous students. AISS and numerous campus partners work together to support Native American students in their transition, achievement and success at UM by offering cultural activities, academic support, peer mentorship and a sense of community. The building is designed to respect the legacy of the historic Salish encampment that was located where campus now sits, and to honor the heritage and cultures of all Montana tribes.

The W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation offers the one of the nation's most innovative college for students who care about forests, climate change, wildlife and its habitat, environmental sustainability, water conservation, recreation and tourism management, wilderness, community and environmental planning, spatial technologies and more. And you can't top UM's forestry and conservation classrooms. Students learn hands-on land management at the Lubrecht Experimental Forest, just 30 minutes from campus, and practice controlled burning and timber stand management just up the road at UM's Bandy cattle ranch. And, a brand-new forestry building is in the planning stages now.

The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education at the University of Montana is the place to study if your future plans include teaching, counseling or leading educational organizations. With undergraduate programs in early childhood education, elementary education and secondary education, this is where tomorrow's educators are shaped. The Education Building received extensive upgrades and a large new addition in 2018. The University of Montana believes the liberal arts provide the foundation to support the exploration of any discipline. That's why the College of Humanities and Sciences is central to an education at UM. With over 20 academic departments and programs, H&S offers 62 bachelor of arts degrees, 26 bachelor of science degrees, 46 minors, and is the academic home of more than 500 graduate students. The PEAS Farm, seen here, is just one experiential learning opportunity offered through H&S. Back on campus, the College of Humanities and Sciences is rooted in Eck Hall on the northern edge of Oval, but with such diverse academic offerings, departments and classrooms are located across campus.

The College of the Arts and Media is Montana's leading resource for art and media education. Students in the nationally ranked School of Journalism report the news live from broadcast studios and the newsroom of the Montana *Kaimin*, UM's student newspaper. In the School of Theatre and Dance, students bring dozens of performances to life on the stage each year. Our School of Visual and Media Arts is home to Montana's first competitive eSports team and thriving fine arts programs in ceramics, painting and drawing, photography and more. Missoula College provides outstanding workforce and technical education in more than 40 academic areas including business technology, culinary arts, legal studies, health care, information technology, sustainable construction and industrial technology. The college is located across the river from the main UM campus in a contemporary facility built new in 2017. With one-year, two-year and certificate programs, many Missoula College students enter the workforce quickly to begin building their careers. Other students earn an Associate of Arts degree and to transfer to a four-year degree program. Missoula College students are considered full-fledged UM students with access to the same resources including on-campus housing, student support services, athletic events and more.

Alexander Blewett III School of Law

The Blewett School of Law at the University of Montana delivers a robust legal education that integrates legal theory with practical experience. Rated the fourth in the nation for affordability and seventh for clerkship placements after graduation, law graduates have a 92% Montana bar passage rate on first attempt and a 94% employment rate. Law school students can specialize by earning certificates in American Indian law, environmental law or national resources conflict resolution, or by earning a juris doctorate degree along with a master's in public administration, business, environmental studies or social work. The School of Law also is home to UM's Department of Public Administration and Policy, which offers an MPA and nonprofit certificate programs.

Mansfield Library

The first floor of the library features a large, open space with a reference desk, several banks of computer workstations, library stacks, comfortable seating and study areas along the western windows. A handful of students still at desks studying while two people exit through the main doors.

The Mansfield Library is the state's premier research library with an extensive catalog of books, journals, periodicals, online databases and digitized materials, including maps and historic photos. Student services offered include tutoring, research help, study rooms, technology lending and equipment rentals. Need a yoga mat? Check one out from the Resource Desk on the main floor. Named after former U.S. Senate Majority Leader and UM graduate Mike Mansfield and his wife, Maureen, the library spans five floors and is also home to Archives and Special Collections and multiple exhibit spaces.

Living on Campus

Eight on-campus residence halls provide safe, convenient and affordable housing options that foster an inclusive environment for UM students. Living Learning Communities within the residence halls group students by academic or lifestyle interests, creating instant community for new students. Residence hall options include single rooms, double rooms, three-person pods and four-person suites. Miller Hall offers a Gender Inclusive floor. For students with 60 credits or more, Lewis and Clark Village offers furnished apartment-style living at UM's South Campus, just a short bus ride from the main campus. The University Villages is available for students with young families and other dependents.

Eating on Campus

From our all-you-care-to-eat dining center to our Food Court and the many coffee shops across campus, UM offers chef-crafted food that's fresh, nutritious, convenient and craveable. Campus Dining takes pride in their role as UM's exclusive foodservice – providing meals, refreshments and hospitality to UM students, employees and visitors throughout the year. We are committed to serving local products grown and raised in Montana, including hyper-local produce from our own gardens. A new 44,000-sqaure-foot dining hall is currently under construction at UM and is slated to open in 2024.

Fitness and Recreation Center

Campus Recreation features facilities and programming that meet the health, fitness and recreational needs of UM students. Facilities include a fully equipped fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, a 25-yard indoor competition pool, a two-story climbing wall and a nine-hole triple tee golf course. Campus Rec programming includes fitness classes and training, intramural sports and youth camps. The Outdoor Program at UM serves as a gateway to adventure offering trips, skills classes, rental equipment and maintenance workshops to all students. The Outdoor Program also organizes UM's popular Freshman Wilderness Experience, orientation trips that take small cohorts of new students into the wilderness for bonding and confidence-building before the semester begins.

Grizzly Athletics

Washington-Grizzly Stadium at the University of Montana is the state's largest athletic venue and when it's full on game day, it becomes the seventh-largest city in Montana. Whether you're on the 50-yard line as a fan of Griz football or on the field attending a concert with 26,000 of your closest friends, it's clear why Washington-Grizzly Stadium consistently ranks as one of the best - and loudest - stadium experiences in the country. But not all our Grizzlies play in the stadium. With 15 athletics teams - including nine women's teams - you'll find Griz student-athletes and their fans in every corner of campus and every town in Montana.

From 620 feet above the valley floor, UM and Missoula coexist to create a community unlike any other.
