Welcome to the beautiful campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore! We hope you visit campus in person sometime soon. But until then, this tour will give you an idea of what it's like to live and study on our 1100-acre campus. Check out our cozy residence halls and iconic hotspots as you think about calling UMES home for the next four years.

In case this is your first visit, here are some tips to help you get started:

Student Services Center

Let's start at the Student Services Center, aka the SSC – the campus hotspot for food, fun, and all things student life! From the main cafeteria and takeout to Starbucks, Tropical Smoothie, and students' favorite-- Milk And Honey--, there's plenty to satisfy your cravings. But the SSC isn't just about food – it's also home to the bookstore, bowling alley, game room, and career services. The SSC a serves as a hub for Hawk events all throughout the semester.

Court Plaza Hall

Court Plaza Hall is a traditional freshman male residence hall featuring a common area kitchen and lounge for residents to use and on-site free laundry facilities.

William P. Hytche Athletic Center

Welcome to UMES's William P. Hytche Arena, also known as Hytche, a vibrant center of campus activity! This 5,500-seat facility offers a wide range of amenities. From its NCAA compliant basketball court to its indoor pool and track. And did we mention the two indoor golf simulators and the private gym for student athletes? Hytche is also equipped with classrooms and exam rooms for hands-on learning experience. Whether you're cheering on our athletes, enjoying a concert, taking a class, or walking across the stage to receive your diploma, the Hytche Arena is always a good time.

Wicomico Hall

Wicomico is home to 78 male freshmen, a cozy common area along with a shared kitchen space and free laundry facilities right on the premises.

Student Development Center

The Student Development Center was designed as a one-stop location for students to handle business. The Financial Aid office, Registrar, and Student Accounts are on the first floor along with the Admissions and Recruitment office. Upstairs, you'll find CAAS. The Center for Access and Academic Success. This is where you'll find assistance with tutoring, workshops, and supplemental instruction. You should get to know the CAAS team to ensure success at UMES. The Counseling Center is also on the second floor of the SDC. They provide you with all kinds of counseling and other initiatives to ensure healthy habits and help you through this important time.

Performing Arts Center

On a beautiful day at UMES, you'll hear the sounds of music coming from the windows of the Ella Fitzgerald Center for Performing Arts. Many people call this either the P.A.C or Ella for short. Here is where important events like convocations for new students and honors students are held. In addition, theatrical performances, Greek life probates, concerts, fashion shows and plenty of other events are held here each semester.

Hawk's Landing

Adjacent to campus, Hawk's Landing is spacious apartment living with in-suite kitchens. Each unit is equipped with personal bathrooms, and built-in desks. These units allow for plenty of room to move around and offer on-site free laundry and an outdoor volleyball pit for recreation. Hawk's Landing is reserved for upperclassmen. P.S. – When you're living in Hawk's Landing, your neighbor is the President of the University.

Henson Center

The Richard A. Henson Center is the academic home to several programs, including Human Ecology, Hospitality and Tourism, and the Extension Programs. The secret of this building is that it is also home to a fully functioning hotel with 24 rooms. Our Hospitality and Tourism Management students can gain hands-on experience working in the hotel industry right on our campus.

Waters Hall

Waters Hall is home to five computer labs with 150 computers and the IT Help Desk if you have computer problems. But the best part of Waters Hall is right when you walk in. There's a Starbucks with grab-and-go food options and a smart mini convenience market for when you're running late, but so hungry you can't concentrate. Grab a latte and be on your way!

Murphy Complex

Murphy is centrally located in the heart of the historic Academic Oval. The Murphy Complex is actually a connected combination of Murphy Hall and Murphy Annex. The Annex is an athletic living-learning community while Murphy Hall is a community for art students (Art Loft) and Aviation Science students. A wide-open lounge area is artfully decorated to inspire creativity and promote community. In addition to on-site free laundry facilities, there is a community kitchen area.

Hardford Hall

Harford Hall serves as housing for Hawks in the Honors Program. It's located right outside of the Academic Oval and directly across from Tawes Gymnasium, the recreational gym for students. This residence hall features a common area kitchen and lounge for residents to use as well as on-site free laundry facilities.

Frederick Douglass Library

Next is the Frederick Douglass Library, honoring the legacy of the influential 19th-century abolitionist and African-American leader. It stands tall with three stories of knowledge and opportunity. As you explore inside , you'll find that the entire lower level is dedicated to quiet study, providing a serene atmosphere for deep focus and concentration. Its main level is equipped with both Microsoft and Mac desktop computers and offers private study rooms featuring whiteboards and TVs, perfect for both group collaborations and individual study marathons.

Plaza Hall

Plaza Hall is an all-women's freshman residence hall. It contains many of the amenities that you will find in all of the UMES residence halls, including free on-site laundry, a computer lab, and several common areas to gather with fellow Hawks.

Clusters

The Student Residential Complex is known on campus as The Clusters because of the way the area is laid out in small clusters of housing. The most desired residence on campus, these units feature an open shared common area, a small efficiency kitchen, and free laundry facilities within the gated community. The Clusters are centrally located in the middle of campus and are reserved for upperclassmen. The ORL is also located inside the Student Residential Complex (Clusters) Community Center. The Community Center is a frequently used gathering space for students and the home of the Residence Life team.

Student Apartments

Student Apartments are reserved for upper class residents. These three-story walk-ups look like apartments on the outside that are actually quint-style suites with five individual rooms. As you enter there is a small, shared common area in each unit with the five rooms ahead. Look out back, and you'll see a large outdoor pavilion area for student events. The Student Apartments community features a community center to include a common area kitchen and lounge for residents to use as well as on-site free laundry facilities.

Hawk Plaza

Hawk Plaza is located just a couple of miles up the road from the main UMES campus and is a coveted housing option because the suites feature two bedrooms with individual bathrooms, a full kitchen, living room, balcony and in-unit laundry. Hawk Plaza was built with students in mind. There is gym open to its residents and a study area on each floor for group or individual projects. There's also a shuttle that runs back and forth frequently for those that need shuttle service to and from campus.

University Terrace

University Terrace is the newest freshman female residential community. It is home to over 300 Hawks in a typical semester. U.T. features suite-style rooms with semi-private bathrooms. It is close to the Student Services Center (SSC),the central campus, and the Engineering and Aviation Science Complex. This residence hall features several gathering spaces, a kitchen, and free laundry on the premises.

Engineering & Aviation Science Complex

The Engineering and Aviation Science Complex, spanning 166,000 square feet, stands as the campus's largest building, boasting LEED Gold Certification for its eco-friendly features, including energy-producing elevators. Home to STEM, business, and digital media studies, it houses innovative labs and simulatiors, UMES Hawk Radio, and a hidden gem food stop famed for its chicken cheese-steaks.
