Welcome to University of Detroit Mercy! More than 100 academic programs span our four campuses. This is the McNichols Campus, which is nestled in the uptown residential district of Detroit.

Students love to meet in the Fountain Courtyard, located just outside of the Student Union. Whether between classes or to unwind after a long day, you'll always find someone relaxing here and taking in the serene view. The courtyard doubles as an area for campus-wide barbecues and carnival-style gatherings — including Titan Fest, the student organization fair that kicks off each academic year.

Student Union

The Student Union is the center of campus life. Students can be found in the lower level playing pool or browsing UDM merch at the bookstore. Stop by the Student Life Office to join a student organization (we have over 100 to choose from). University Ministry creates a space for students of all faith traditions to build relationships through prayer, action, reflection and community.

It's time to eat! On the second floor, the Titan Dining Room is an all-you-care-to-eat location, featuring hot entrees, a salad bar, soups, pizza, pasta, desserts and more. Enjoy lunch on-the-go from The Loft, where you can order a sandwich from Subway, as well as burgers, chicken strips, yogurt parfaits and fresh fruit.

Kassab Mall

When traveling between buildings, you may find yourself in the Kassab Mall. The Student Union, Engineering Building, Fitness Center and Holden Hall are located in this area, and the residential complex is just steps away. While in the Kassab Mall, you'll also see The Amp, located outside of the Student Union. The Amp features tables and seating options for students to study, enjoy a meal or connect with friends.

Shiple Hall

Detroit Mercy's residence halls house hundreds of students in a comfortable and safe environment. This is Shiple Hall, our seven-story residence hall for freshmen. Shiple Hall offers community bathrooms on every floor, as well as study spaces, a lounge on the lower level, a volleyball court, laundry facilities, premium cable and WiFi. The Pit Stop, a convenience and snack store, is open 24/7 on the first floor.

Upperclassmen live in suite-style rooms in the Quads Complex. In this arrangement, two air-conditioned rooms share a bathroom. Our special interest housing accommodates students who want to live alongside those with common interests.

Fitness Center

Detroit Mercy students receive free membership to the Fitness Center. Built in 2012, the facility features basketball courts, exercise equipment, bicycle rentals and an elevated three-lane track. Students have access to personal trainers and fitness classes, including yoga, kickboxing and Zumba. Titans can also play an intramural or club sport, including basketball, volleyball, ping pong, tennis and touch football. In addition, students take advantage of off-campus adventures throughout Metro Detroit, like kayaking on the Detroit River. Be sure to stop by Tommy's Smoothies and Snacks to fuel up before or after your workout.

Engineering Building

The Engineering Building at Detroit Mercy houses advanced technology classrooms and labs. This includes the Center for Automotive Systems Engineering Education, where students collaborate on projects involving competitive vehicle design, robotics and autonomous vehicle development. The Center facilitates hands-on collaboration between engineering students and industry partners such as Ford, General Motors and Denso International.

Calihan Hall

Welcome to Calihan Hall, home of Detroit's only NCAA Division I athletic team – the Detroit Mercy Titans. As part of the Horizon League, athletes compete on one of 17 varsity teams. Calihan Hall features an indoor track, fitness and weight room, multipurpose track and field, a tennis complex, and a golf practice center. And just across campus, you'll find Buysse Ballpark.

Detroit Mercy student-athletes also compete in the classroom; the majority are on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for achieving a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Ford Life Sciences Building

The Ford Life Sciences Building is home to the Biology Department. The facility features biology classrooms, lecture halls, lab spaces and faculty offices. Students and faculty complete research in anatomy, bioinformatics, genetics, immunology, microbiology, physiology and toxicology. Detroit Mercy is proud to say that biology and chemistry students are accepted into graduate and professional schools at rates above the national average.

Chemistry Building

Built in 1927, the Chemistry Building features the iNSPIRE Lab — an innovative and creative space for students to conduct authentic scientific research alongside faculty. The lab includes a flexible room design, multiple flat screens, wet lab space, advanced technology devices and state-of-the-art instruments. Here at Detroit Mercy, faculty and students regularly receive research grants and participate in national research conferences.

Library

At the heart of campus is the first national literary landmark in Michigan, the Library. Built in 1949, the Library is the place to meet friends, work on a project or quietly study.

Inside, you will find the Student Success Center, which offers free tutoring, study groups, academic coaches and accessibility services. Students often drop by to relieve stress by visiting Bentley, the office's therapy dog.

Next time you're on campus, stop in, grab Starbucks from the Bookmark Café, find a comfortable chair and explore the extensive collection of resources the Library offers.

Loranger Architecture Building

The Loranger Architecture Building is home to North America's only accredited Jesuit and Mercy architecture school. Starting in their first year, architecture students work on real-world projects that enhance the classroom experience. Here, cooperative education is part of the curriculum, so students benefit from paid, professional work experience before graduation.

The building features its very own award-winning architecture firm, the Detroit Collaborative Design Center, which provides full architectural planning services to community organizations. Students enjoy a unique curriculum and learning environment that develop their sense of social justice and ability to lead and serve in their community.

Jane and Walter Briggs Building

You will find the oldest college at Detroit Mercy in the Jane and Walter Briggs Building. Founded in 1877, the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences houses many areas of academic study, including communication studies, criminal justice, cybersecurity, pre-law, psychology and theatre. The Briggs Building is also home to the Center for Cybersecurity & Intelligence Studies — which was recognized by the National Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security — as well as the Writing Center, Communication and Media Wing and student newspaper.

Commerce & Finance Building

Only the top 5% of business schools in the world have achieved accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and one is located at Detroit Mercy. The College of Business Administration resides within the Commerce & Finance Building and offers students a state-of-the-art Financial Markets Lab, an executive-in-residence who assists with career advising and a wide network of notable alumni. Students can choose from a number of programs, many of which are ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Rooted in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions, all Detroit Mercy students are well-prepared to be the ethical leaders of tomorrow.

Sacred Heart Square

Take a stroll or relax between classes in Sacred Heart Square. This scenic area is located between the Loranger Architecture Building, Jane & Walter Briggs Building, Chemistry Building, Commerce & Finance Building and the Library. In Sacred Heart Square, you will also find the Gardella Honors House, a space exclusively available to students in the University Honors Program.

Health Professions Facility

The Health Professions Facility was constructed in 2004 and is home to top-ranked nursing and health professions programs. Students hone their skills in the Simulation, Technology and Research (STAR) Center. The STAR Center features fully-interactive simulated patients in several labs, including a high-tech trauma and operating room. It is also equipped with a virtual reality lab, crash cart, ventilator and medication cart. We are committed to graduating professionals who can meet society's evolving healthcare needs.

School of Dentistry

Welcome to the Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, located in the heart of the Corktown neighborhood. Students undergo a hybrid learning experience including instructional classes and hands-on practice. Community-focused and clinically-oriented, Detroit Mercy provides low-cost dental care to residents of metro Detroit. Students consistently participate in local outreach and service programs across the state, including the Titans for Teeth Mobile Clinic – a community favorite.

School of Law

We've just arrived at the Riverfront campus — home of one of the most innovative law schools in the country. Established in 1890, Detroit Mercy School of Law is one of the first in America to implement a clinical program. Through this clinical program, thousands of people in the Detroit community receive legal assistance, including veterans, immigrants and children. In the heart of Downtown Detroit, the School of Law offers a joint degree program with University of Windsor just across the river.

Eye Institute

In 2020, Detroit Mercy acquired its fourth campus, located in Novi. This campus features various graduate and healthcare programs. The Detroit Mercy Eye Institute opened at the Novi Campus in 2024. The Eye Institute offers a full range of optometry services, including eye exams and treatment for various eye conditions. The clinic provides affordable care to uninsured and vulnerable populations who have limited access to eyecare, which reflects an important component of UDM's Jesuit and Mercy mission.

Downtown Detroit

Welcome to downtown Detroit, just minutes away from Detroit Mercy. Currently, you're near Campus Martius, which was named the best public space in the nation by USA Today readers. Here, Detroiters can enjoy views of the skyline, listen to live music and order from food trucks. You can lounge in the beach area during the summer and go ice skating during the winter.

Downtown Detroit is known for its ignited social scene and offers concerts, nationally-acclaimed restaurants, exciting nightlife, theatre, championship sports and world-class museums. The city is also home to many of the Fortune 500 companies in Michigan, which provide exceptional internships and co-ops to UDM students.
