Every year before coursework begins, new students from around the world come together for Convocation, a candle-lit celebration of the incoming class held in this classic campus courtyard. You'll learn the University's values of diversity, inclusion and shared responsibility to one another. Students meet on the Student Union Quad on perfect fall days to play frisbee, study, and chat. You'll cross the paths to reach the Castleman Building, one of five School of Engineering facilities, or Gentry, home to the Neag School of Education. At the Rowe Center for Undergraduate Education, advisors connect students with Education Aboard scholarship and research opportunities, And at the Student Union, you'll dine in the food court, catch a movie in the theater, or attend a memorable event.

Nestled in the quad between the School of Business and Library is "The Dove Tower and Steps to the Bottom of a Pyramid," a sculpture by artist Ilan Averbuch. Thanks to Connecticut's Art in Public Spaces program, construction of our leading-edge facilities has for decades included a commitment of funding for public art. Today, dozens of beautiful and thought-provoking art pieces grace all our campuses, reflecting our community's intellectual and creative pursuits. Also surrounding this sculpture are the Information Technology Building, home to our computer science department; the Whetten Graduate Center, where you'll find the administrative offices of the Graduate School; and the Student Recreation Center.

Fairfield Way starts by Gampel Pavilion, where you can rub the nose of our bronze Jonathan the Husky statue for good luck. Follow the brick pathway where you may meet up with the University President or Provost or Chief Diversity Officer. Along the way, you'll encounter academic facilities including McHugh Hall, featuring expansive classrooms and topped by a living green roof, one of many sustainability initiatives that keep UConn at the top of the Sierra Club's list of 'cool schools.' On Fairfield Way, you'll discover the perfect student organization during the annual Involvement Fair and find our Food for Thought and Dairy Bar Ice Cream trucks.
Fine Arts Complex

Our School of Fine Arts inspires students to fully realize creative expression through visual arts, digital media and design, theatrical performance, and music all housed in a modular complex. Students refine their talents under the tutelage of professors who are themselves accomplished artists. The Art Building features studio spaces where students master techniques in sculpting, illustration, metal craft, painting, and photography. The Music Building provides practice spaces for individualized instruction and small group and ensemble collaborations. Fine Arts students blend their creative pursuits with professional experience in 11 on-campus arts venues, including the Nafe Katter Theater, von der Mehden Recital Hall, and the Arena Gallery, all located in the complex.

UConn's globally recognized School of Business prepares students to excel in business through innovative, experiential learning. Business students solve real-world challenges in case competitions and consulting projects, using resources like our Bloomberg Terminals. Unique programs include the Innovation Accelerator, Experiential Learning Collaborative, and Student Managed Fund, where students manage a multimillion-dollar stock portfolio.
At UConn, students in all majors are encouraged to develop an entrepreneurial mindset with help from the Werth Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, a portal to resources across the University. Entrepreneurship opportunities based in the School of Business include a concentration and a minor, as well as startup funding competitions such as Innovation Quest.

The Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts

Each season, national and international musicians, comedians, dancers, artists, and lecturers visit The Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts. With free or discounted student tickets, you can hear a riveting talk by an intellectual leader one weekend and attend a sold-out music concert the next. Recent guests to campus include Hasan Minhaj, Rosario Dawson, Khalid, and more!
Here, you can enroll in master classes hosted by our music department or participate in intimate panel discussions with visiting artists. The main Jorgensen stage presents up to 30 unique programs every year, while students in the Department of Dramatic Arts perform alongside Equity actors in the Connecticut Repertory Theater company in the Harriet Jorgensen Theater.

McMahon also hosts the Office for International Students and Scholars, which provides support for the thousands of students who come to UConn from other countries.
At the academic center of campus is the University Seal, featuring the oak leaf, a symbol of wisdom and Connecticut's State tree. You'll notice students don't step on it – legend says doing so means you won't graduate in four years! Located in the Rowe building, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning supports educational distinction, helping faculty employ the latest technology to deliver a pre-eminent instruction in person or in virtual environments.
Nearby Oak and McHugh Halls offer bright and inviting classrooms and lecture halls in energy efficient facilities that embody UConn's commitment to sustainability. UConn regularly ranks among the top universities in the world for our environmentally conscious operations.

At the crest of the Great Lawn with its golden cupola visible throughout campus is a quintessential UConn landmark: the Wilbur Cross Building, a one-stop shop for student services. Chat with helpful staff in offices including the Registrar, the Center for Career Development, or the Dean of Students or find a favorite study spot in the light-filled Reading Rooms of this former library. Next door is Storrs Hall, named for Augustus Storrs, who along with his brother Charles donated $5,000 and 170 acres to establish the agricultural school that became the University of Connecticut. Here, nursing students learn in simulation labs before working under expert mentors during their clinical rotations.

Need a break from studying? Just steps from campus is Downtown Storrs, a lively, walkable center with restaurants, services, stores, and off-campus apartments. Here, you can visit the bank, get a haircut, and access UConn Health's urgent care clinic. Indulge in culinary delights from world cuisines from sandwiches, salads, bubble tea, crepes, sushi, pizza, and wings. Look for books, gifts, or convenience items at shops including Barnes and Noble at UConn or explore the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry. The Nash-Zimmer transportation center is the hub for bus rides to nearby cities including Boston and New York and has electric car charging stations.

The sweeping vistas of Horsebarn Hill are the backdrop of UConn's founding department, the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. Today, you'll find facilities that support innovative agriculture and biological sciences in a range of academic programs. UConn's breakthrough genetic research includes the first cloned farm animal in the United States: Amy, a Holstein cow born in 1999. It's a great example of how UConn built on its agricultural roots to become a leading research university, stepping up to the biggest challenges facing our society.
Horsebarn Hill is also a favorite spot for hiking, sledding, and even sunset yoga classes. And you can't miss the Dairy Bar for our award-winning ice cream!

When it's time to power down your computer, head to the Student Recreation Center. Whatever way you like to move, you'll find it in this dynamic, 191,000-square-foot facility opened in 2019. In addition to familiar recreation amenities, there's an outdoor adventure center; an eight-lane, 25-yard swimming pool; a mind-body studio; a four-court gymnasium; a 56-foot-high climbing wall; a cycling studio; three racquetball courts; a three-lane track with views of campus; and more! Across the street is the iconic Gampel Pavilion, home to our men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball teams. There's nothing like the thrill of experiencing Huskymania in the packed stands—at UConn, we Bleed Blue and Husky Pride runs deep.

Welcome to the "basketball capital of the world," Gampel Pavilion. We earned the designation! Our men's and women's teams have racked up more than a dozen combined NCAA basketball championships and have smashed records, with multiple perfect women's seasons and dual national titles in 2004 and 2014. Gampel houses UConn's top-ranked Kinesiology program, preparing students for careers in athletic training, exercise science, and physical therapy, and the Korey Stringer Institute, dedicated to research aimed at keeping athletes safe on the field. Just beyond Gampel are state-of-the-art practice and training facilities for our student-athletes, the Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center and the Burton Family Football Complex and Mark R. Shenkman Training Center.
