Welcome to UCD! We are standing at the main lake, which is probably where you will end up hanging out on a sunny day between classes! It is also the heart of our campus, which is located 5km from Dublin city centre. Overlooking the lake you will find the UCD Science building, the main library, the Newman building, O'Reilly Hall and the new University Club. As we go through our campus today, you will see why UCD is not only ranked in the top 1% of world university rankings but is also the number one in Ireland for Graduate employability for the last three years. Before we get started, let me explain the many ways you can explore our beautiful campus. Click on the forward arrow to start walking around. The Sports Centre & Playing Fields

Student life at UCD is not just about lectures and study - There is so much more waiting for you to discover. The UCD Sports and Fitness Complex provides the most diverse range of student facilities of any university in Ireland. Facilities include over 20 outdoor sports fields, Irelands national hockey stadium, a 50 metre Olympic sized swimming pool and 2 gym floors with over 100 fitness classes every week. With nearly 60 official sports clubs and over 90 active student societies, your opportunities are endless!

The Student Centre

The UCD Student Centre is where students come to relax, hang out and enjoy the large suite of wellbeing and social facilities. Think of it as your home away from home. You can watch a movie in the 3D cinema, meet friends at the UCD clubhouse or the poolside café, attend a live debate in our debating chamber or a show in the theatre. It's like a small village with a medical centre, pharmacy, barber and shops all right here on campus.

James Joyce Library

The James Joyce Library is the largest of the 5 libraries at UCD. Our network of libraries has nearly 1 million print books, half a million e-books, and over 100,000 print and electronic journals. As a UCD student, you have access to them all! You also have access to over 3,000 quiet reading rooms, group study rooms and social learning spaces. There is even a free lap top loan service should you need it. Other student support services located at the James Joyce library, include the Maths and Writing Support centres, with expert tutors on hand to help.

Student Residences

We are outside Glenmona, one of UCD Student residences. With over 4,000 students living on campus UCD is a vibrant student community. There are various accommodation options which include catered or self-catered apartments or halls of residence. Specifically adapted facilities are provided for students with disabilities. Each of these residences offer a 24-hour support service, a laundrette, social spaces, nearby shops, and a team of residential assistants to ensure you feel at home.

O'Brien Science Centre

Veterinary Medicine

Welcome to UCD Veterinary Medicine – the only centre for Veterinary Medical education in Ireland. It enjoys a long and proud tradition and has achieved an international reputation. UCD Veterinary Medicine is one of the leading veterinary schools in Europe and is fully accredited in Ireland, Europe and North America. Sutherland Law School

The Sutherland School of Law, is ranked within the Top 100 Law Schools in the world. It is also the only purpose built law school in Ireland. Key features include the clinical legal education centre, the negotiation suite and ceremonial moot court. Our graduates have progressed to hold some of the highest legal and political offices in the state, including Chief Justice, Attorney General, Director of Public Prosecutions, Taoiseach and Tanaiste.

Lochlann Quinn School of Business

The Lochlann Quinn School of Business is one of Europe's leading business schools and has been a triple accredited business school for over 20 years. Here students benefit from the strong industry links and an active alumni network that facilitates the Quinn Business Mentoring Programme and the Quinn Internship Programme. The exciting new Moore Centre, which opened its doors in 2019, provides a purpose-built workspace designed to offer the best student experience in Ireland. Facilities include a data analytics lab with Bloomberg terminals. Teaching spaces that range from large lecture theatres to smaller interactive learning classrooms designed for collaborative and dynamic teaching. The Digital Collaborative room facilitates live business simulations, game-based learning, case assignments, interactive data analysis and team activities.

Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School

The Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School is located in a magnificent 19th Century estate in the leafy suburb of Blackrock, 2km from the UCD main campus. The business school has provided business education for over a century having first introduced the Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1908. Today, with over 100 faculty members, 1400 students and 95,000 alumni worldwide, the UCD Smurfit School is one of a small number of business schools worldwide to hold triple international accreditation from America, Europe and the UK. We are also the only Irish business school consistently featured in global rankings over the last ten years.

Engineering & Materials Science Centre

UCD Engineering offers a particularly wide range of engineering specialisations including, Biomedical, Chemical & Bioprocess, Civil, Electrical or Electronic, Mechanical and Structural Engineering with Architecture.Here in the foyer, you can see the Steam Beam Engine. This was originally installed in the Jameson Distillery on Bow Street in Dublin. It was built in the late 1800s and was removed from service in the 1930s. Surprisingly it can be switched on and still works!

Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy

The Richview Campus is home to UCD Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy.Facilities includes design studios, a well-equipped workshop and building laboratory, exhibition spaces and the best architectural library in the country. UCD Planning is the oldest, largest and most respected planning and environmental policy school in Ireland. Most planners currently employed in Ireland were educated in the school. The School of Architecture's studio programmes are largely taught by practising architects and landscape architects. Alumni of these programmes include many of the leading figures in their profession, including the 2020 Pritzker Prize Laureates, Yvonne Farrell and Shelly McNamara.

Social Sciences

Newman is home to UCD Social Sciences & UCD Arts & Humanities.Students studying social sciences examine the nature of our society and the issues confronting humanity. This includes subjects like Economics, Politics, Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology, Archaeology, Geography and Information and Communication studies.UCD leads the way with the broadest and most diverse Social Sciences programme in Ireland offering innovative social sciences education and research. UCD is ranked number 1 in Ireland for Arts & Humanities and students are part of the leading centre for research, creative and critical practice, and innovation. Students immerse themselves in English, Film, Drama, Classics, Music and Languages. The UCD Arts and Humanities Alumni community include some of the most important writers, ﬁlm directors, poets and playwrights of our time. In Newman you will also find UCD's Classical Museum founded in 1910. It is the largest collection of classical artefacts on display in Ireland.

UCD Health Sciences is home to medicine, radiography, nursing and midwifery, physiotherapy and sports sciences. Across each school, UCD students thrive with the expertise, supervision and support from their world class lecturers and practitioners. Students enjoy fully equipped clinical skills laboratories, a simulated hospital, and a radiography imaging suite right here on campus. UCD Agriculture, Food and Nutrition is ranked number one in Ireland and placed 19th globally and 5th in Europe. Here students can study a unique range of programmes that span the entire food and health chain. These programmes include professional work experience and international study abroad opportunities - one of the reasons graduates are so highly sought after. Many Agricultural Science students also get to enjoy hands-on experience at the spectacular 250 hectare Lyons Farm, located in Newcastle, Co. Dublin.

Woodland Walk & Gardens

Although UCD is near the city centre, the Campus is well known for its parkland setting and mature landscaping. The campus was formed through the purchase of some of Dublin's finest period houses and estates. Today over 8km of these woodland paths have been created which has opened up the beautiful 133-hectare campus to the wider community. There are 5 walks of varying lengths, each with its own unique characteristics. The campus woodland has over 50,000 trees and over 75 different species.
