One of Schenectady County Community College's main entrances is the Washington Avenue entrance into Elston Hall. As students enter this main classroom building on our campus, they are experiencing history, as Elston Hall was the site of the former grand Hotel Van Curler. Elston Hall now includes classrooms, faculty offices, a cafeteria, College Store, student lounge and biology and geology labs, as well as other support services for students.

The Canal Side café features handcrafted specialty beverages such as lattes, macchiatos, cappuccinos, expressos as well as brewed coffee and tea. A big favorite is the wide variety of handcrafted smoothies, both fruit and vegetable. Canal Side café caters to special dietary requests by offering soy milk, almond milk, whey protein and a variety of flavored syrups. Fresh pastries are available daily for breakfast and for lunch you can select, Paninis, small salads, wraps or the soup of the day. Vegan and vegetarian options are available daily. Watch for the weekly sushi day. Sushi day is always a sell-out! While enjoying your beverage or meal, relax in the comfortable seating to study or just hang with friends. During the semester the Faculty Student Association will host movies on the big screen tv in the café that regularly is set to local news channels to keep the campus informed on developing news stories. Canal Side café offers that special niche for students, faculty, staff and community guests. The café can be utilized for meetings, just contact the Faculty Student Association office to schedule the space in advance. The café opens daily at 7:30 am during the semester. Students hang out with friends, get something to eat and take a break between classes, all in our cafeteria, known at SCCC as the "commons" in Elston Hall. Prestige Services Inc. offers a wide variety of meals, snacks and drinks. Their menu features breakfast, lunch and dinner including salads made with produce from local farms, fresh fruit, deli sandwiches, quesadillas, yogurt, soft pretzels, wraps and homemade chili, among many other prepared and made-to-order foods.

The Business Center, located in Room 240 of Elston Hall, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to simulate a real corporate environment for students studying Business Administration. It features stock market reports in real time, a corporate conference table and chairs, and equipment designated for student use while they learn to make business presentations. Classes in accounting, marketing, management, and business communications meet in the Business Center.

The quad area in the center of campus is a welcoming sight for students and visitors to campus. When the weather's nice in the great Northeast, students gather on the quad to socialize, have a bite to eat and enjoy beautiful landscaping in a relaxed setting. At times, professors hold classes out on the quad. With plenty of benches and outdoor space, the quad is the perfect place to meet up with friends, talk about classes and even play a game of hacky sack.

Prospective students and their families are always welcome in the Admissions Office, located in the heart of campus, on the first floor of the Stockade Building. Admissions representatives guide students through the application process, answer their questions about SCCC and serve as terrific resources for anyone seeking to attend the College. The Admissions Office invites the community to Fall and Spring Open Houses and Instant Admission/Information Nights which take place in the fall, spring and summer.

Not only does our College Store in Elston Hall have what students need to succeed in the classroom, including textbooks, calculators, metronomes, tuners, flash drives, slipcases for mini-laptops and netbooks, and biology lab equipment, among many other items. The College Store also has a wide selection of everyday items to help students get through a busy day. Shoppers can find postage stamps, combination locks, sodas, energy drinks, chips, candy bars, breakfast and energy bars, pain relievers, cold medicine and personal hygiene items. Plus, the store always has the latest trends in hoodies, jackets, t-shirts, hats, and sunglasses. Our friendly staff make a trip to the College Store fun and easy.

Student success is what SCCC is all about. The Learning Center on the fifth floor of Elston Hall provides students with academic assistance in reading, writing and study skills. Our professional and peer tutors provide assistance through individualized instruction. In the Learning Center students can take advantage of computer assisted instruction, study groups in content areas and workshops. The Learning Center also serves as a writing lab to all students who need assistance in written assignments including research papers.

The new Biotechnology Laboratory and Research Facility has state-of-the-art equipment throughout multiple learning spaces, including two learning laboratories, a research center, and a dedicated microscopy area. Students have the opportunity to learn biological and biotechnology concepts using the most up-to-date equipment, as well as the chance to conduct original research in conjunction with their coursework.

The Student Success Center is where students go to receive assistance on identifying resources available to achieve their academic success. The Success Center opened in January 2018 in this centrally located space right off the Student Commons and Cafeteria, to work with all SCCC students to identify possible challenges and to offer early intervention. The Success Coaches utilize the college's Starfish Early Alert system to identify and connect with students who are having academic challenges and support students in getting back on track to complete their course work and graduate from their academic program. The Success Coaches offer a number of workshops throughout the year to give students the skills needed to be successful.

Aromas fill the air in the Anthony J. (Toby) Strianese culinary wing in Elston Hall from tasty soups, sauces, pastries, continental dishes and international cuisine being prepared by students in this well-known major. The School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism also includes the gourmet Casola Dining Room and a bakery serving mouth-watering pies, cakes, pastries and even pizza. Both are open to the public. Students take a variety of classes in our state-of-the-art culinary arts and baking labs.

The Casola Dining Room in Elston Hall, named for longtime hospitality professor Matteo Casola, is a very popular attraction for members of the College community and those in the Capital Region. Guests are treated to gourmet cuisine and excellent service while students in the School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism gain experience in a wide range of dining room and banquet service activities, including tableside preparation and meal service. Guests need to get their reservations in early for lunch or dinner in this unique setting that has become synonymous with "delicious!" Bon appetit.

The Begley Library has printed and electronic resources that students can access in the library or online. The library has over 87,000 print volumes, E-Books that students can use even when the library is closed, E-Reserves for students to reserve material online from on or off campus and thousands of licensed periodical titles that students can search any time of the day or night from on or off campus. Librarians are on hand to assist students with research through Individual Reference Consultations. Through "Ask Us," students chat online or e-mail questions to a network of college librarians, including SCCC librarians.

The Carl B. Taylor Community Auditorium is home to a host of special events throughout the year. Audiences are treated to performances by students in our nationally-accredited music programs, as well as concerts by musicians in the Empire Jazz Orchestra, Capital Region Wind Ensemble and Musicians of Ma'alwyck, our professional ensembles in residence. Drama productions also take place in the 400-seat auditorium. The College welcomes guest artists and artists-in-residence who perform with our musical groups. Throughout the year, SCCC welcomes nationally-renowned and local guest lecturers to campus and we invite the community to hold special events in this well-equipped space.

The Gateway Montessori Preschool at SCCC is located in the colorful, one-story Gateway Building where Early Childhood classrooms and labs are also held. At the preschool, children are active participants in their education, learning through hands-on exploration with teachers facilitating, modeling and guiding. Children, 2 1/2 to 6 years of age, of SCCC students, faculty, staff and the community at large, are eligible for enrollment in the Gateway Montessori Preschool at SCCC. The preschool operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., and follows the SCCC academic calendar.

The Center for Science and Technology (CST) houses the College's physics and chemistry laboratories as well as specialized laboratory facilities for circuits, electronics, vacuum science, and computer networking, as well as labs for the Nanoscale Materials Technology program and the Division of Mathematics, Science and Technology.

Canal Side Convenience provides the entire SCCC Community with the opportunity to shop for essentials without having to leave campus! The convenience store features an array of sundry items from beverages and snacks to microwavable meals and ice cream. The store does carry Vegan and gluten free selections. Beyond all the tasty treats are the "essentials". Toiletries, personal care products and various home care products, such as cleansers, napkins, tissues, paper dishes, plastic utensils and products for the kitchen and bathroom can all be found at Canal Side Convenience. A special locally brewed coffee, created by Schenectady County Community College's very own students and faculty is available in the Canal Side Convenience store! Two distinct blends of ground coffee, regular or decaffeinated, are available for purchase in the Store and they are not available anywhere else! The Store also boasts a Technology Wall which carries a wide variety of popular brands of headphones, earbuds, batteries, charges, cables and cords. Also available are speakers and key boards and many other replacement products for phones, iPad and computers. Greeting Cards and stationery supplies and SCCC inspired products round out the inventory of items which one will find available for purchase at Canal Side Convenience! We hope you'll make us a regular stop during your days at Schenectady County Community College!

A 112,00 square foot housing facility is located directly across campus, on Washington Avenue. Each suite features either two or four private bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, kitchen, and a living space. The ground floor of this four story building features a fitness area, a student recreation center, game room, business center, study area, and rehearsal space for music students.

The impressive SCCC School of Music features a recording studio control room and live room with state-of-the-art equipment, as well as a post-production studio. Students also benefit from a music technology classroom with Pro Tools recording software, specialized instrumental and choral rehearsal spaces and a keyboard lab. Abundant individual practice rooms are available to students during the day and evening.

SCCC is located along the banks of the scenic Mohawk River. A bike/hike path which starts on our campus wraps around the river and is a great place to walk, bicycle, run or stop and enjoy nature. Our winning women's crew team launch from the Union College boathouse on the river.

SCCC has a partnership with the Capital District YMCA's Schenectady Branch. Faculty, staff and students take advantage of this state-of-the-art facility within walking distance to campus. It features an NCAA regulation-size gymnasium, a 5,000-square-foot wellness center, an aerobics studio and ample parking. Amenities include a cafe, children's corner baby-sitting service, a sauna, spin studio, steam room, meeting space and a teen center.

The SCCC Men's Basketball Team and Women's Basketball Team practice and play their home games in the James and Lenore Jacobson Gymnasium at the Schenectady YMCA in downtown Schenectady, a modern, NCAA regulation-size gymnasium.

The SCCC Men's Baseball Team, who have competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series, practice and play their home games on the B diamond, also known as Joe Spruill Field, in Schenectady's Central Park. Fans cheer on the Royals as they compete on this field, which is nestled in the city's public park and features stadium seating and nearby amenities.

The SCCC Men's and Women's Bowling Team have their practices and home matches at Boulevard Bowl on Erie Boulevard in Schenectady. Built in the early 1960s, Boulevard Bowl began as a 32-lane center. By 1980, an extra eight lanes had been added on giving it a total of 40 lanes. The Royals enjoy the convenience of Boulevard Bowl, located within walking distance from campus.

Students can choose from a variety of courses that are held at SCCC@Center City, located on State Street in downtown Schenectady, a few blocks from our main campus. SCCC holds classes during the day and evening in Center City which is also home to the Schenectady YMCA, the SUNY College and Career Counseling Center and offices for agencies and local organizations. There is convenient parking nearby and students can choose from a variety of restaurants for meals in between classes. The Jay Street shopping district, Proctors historic theater and Bow-Tie Cinemas are just a few of the fun things to explore within walking distance from Center City.

Students soar high as part of the College's Aviation Science and Air Traffic Control programs. They perform their flight labs and take classes at Richmor Aviation located at the Schenectady County Airport. Students get substantial experience in actual flight training toward a Private Pilot Certificate, Commercial Pilot Certificate and Flight Instructor Certificate. They also gain experience through scenarios and by handling live aircraft traffic in the Schenectady County Airport Control Tower.
