Welcome to Stony Brook! By living on campus, you'll be fully integrated into our community. Our 50+ residential facilities house over 10,000 students, offering something for everyone. Among your living options are our corridor style communities, which include Mendelsohn, H and Eleanor Roosevelt Communities. Mendelsohn Community is home to the ITS Center, supporting academics and programming, and our nationally recognized Food Pantry. Mendelsohn has a large collaborative-learning space, fitness center and computing center for residents at no cost. The Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary also host offices here.

Chávez and Tubman Halls are two of our newest additions to our residential community. Named for Cesar Chávez and Harriet Tubman, two well known leaders of the social justice movement, Chávez and Tubman feature over 750 single rooms in a suite style setting. Available to Juniors and Seniors with a strong GPA, these residence halls include fitness and computing centers, multipurpose and study areas, and collaborative learning spaces. The buildings are climate controlled within each room and there is a bathroom and shower facility within each suite. Situated close to the academic mall, East Side Dining and the Hawrys Rec Center, these communities are highly sought after by Stony Brook students.

Welcome to East side Dining, the newest dining facility on campus. Eastside offers a variety of dining options to meet nearly every dietary need. There is an "all you care to eat" dining area, a grill, pizza station, southwest kiosk, Kosher, Halal, Vegan options and a convenience store with grab and go items. There is lots of seating throughout the facility for guests to eat, study and socialize with others.

Roth Community, one of our three suite style communities, is situated surrounding Roth Pond, a favorite landmark on campus. Each Spring the Roth Pond Regatta is held here. This is one of the University's most popular and longest running traditions. Students, Faculty and staff build and race boats made completely out of cardboard and duct tape. All of our suite style residence halls have two or three bedrooms, a common room and a bathroom shared by 6 or 7 residents. As in all of our Housing Communities, there is a Fitness Center and Computing Center available to all residents.

Roth Dining is the multi-purpose facility located adjacent to Roth Pond. Roth Dining has a retail food court with multiple dining options. On the first floor of the building is one of several Starbucks on campus. There are multiple meeting rooms for classes, programs and activities and the facility is heavily used by residents of both Roth and Tabler Communities.

Tabler Community, includes 5 suite style residence halls that surround a beautifully landscaped commons. In the center of the Quad is the Tabler Center for Arts, Culture and Humanities, a multi-purpose facility with a large black box theater, practice rooms, an art gallery, a MAC lab, meeting space, a production studio and a lounge with comfortable seating and a retail food operation. Tabler Quad also hosts one of our three lighted multi-purpose sports courts with basketball, tennis and volleyball facilities.

Kelly and Roosevelt Communities are located on the western side of the campus. Kelly is suite style with both two and three bedroom units, while Roosevelt is primarily corridor style with a mix of single and shared bedrooms. Lauterbur and Yang Halls are suite style and were our first two LEED certified (Gold) residences on campus. The two communities share the GLS / HDV Center, a multi-purpose facility with meeting space, seminar rooms, a computing lab and comfortable seating adjacent to a retail food operation.

West Side Dining is one of our most popular dining facilities on campus. It features an "all you care to eat" dining option with multiple choices available daily. West Side Dining is the dedicated "nut sensitive" dining facility on campus and the staff are committed to meeting the varied dietary needs of our residents. Adjacent to the dining area is a convenience store where residents can purchase "grab and go" items, snacks, toiletries, and more. On the second floor of West Side Dining is the LGBTQ* Center which offer a variety of resources to all Stony Brook students including meeting space, quiet study areas, activities and collaborative learning spaces. WUSB, 90.1 FM, is the campus radio station also located on the second floor of West Side Dining.

Our West Apartments accommodate upper division undergraduates with a strong academic record. One building is dedicated to Graduate students. The apartments offer a mix of both single and shared bedrooms. Each apartment houses six residents. There is a full kitchen and dining area, a living rooms and two baths. All units are climate controlled and the West Apartments remain open year round. Within the Commons Building, there is a multi-purpose room for classes, programs, and activities. There is also a fitness center, a computing center and a print station for the residents of the community. Adjacent to West I building is a lighted sports court with Tennis, Volleyball and Basketball facilities.

The Chapin Apartments are one of two dedicated apartment style communities for Graduate and Family residents. The apartments feature a mix of single and double occupancy rooms in one, two, three and four bedroom apartments. Each apartment includes a kitchen, dining, living room and bathroom facilities. Some units have air conditioning. Chapin is the one residential community that offers housing for families with children. Children attend the Three Village School District. To support our family residents there is a playground in the center of the community. The Chapin Commons boasts a fitness center, computing center, multi-purpose room and a mailroom. Chapin is a diverse and active residential community.
