Welcome to Slippery Rock University. Located in the rolling hills of Western Pennsylvania, just 50 minutes north of Pittsburgh, SRU provides students with a comprehensive learning experience that combines academic instruction with hands-on learning opportunities. After the virtual tour, we hope you schedule a visit to campus to experience the SRU difference in person. North Hall

North Hall is a traditional residence hall that recently underwent $4 million dollars of renovations to upgrade the common areas, bathrooms, and living spaces. North Hall is also where you’ll find our modern scale-up classroom utilized by the physics, engineering, and exercise science programs. In the center of this building is a beautiful courtyard where you can hang out with friends or enjoy some outdoor study time. It is also home to the Welcome Center, which includes undergraduate and graduate admissions as well as orientation.

Old Main

This is Old Main. It was constructed in 1893 which makes it the oldest building on campus. It is home to administrative offices such as Student Accounts, Payroll, Academic Records and the President! Every hour, students across campus hear the bell tower chime the time from the top of Old Main. You will notice Old Main is located on the edge of campus, reinforcing that students, not the administration, are at the heart of the SRU experience.

Maltby Center

*Maltby* Center used to house the university's library until 1978. Now-a-days, it is home to the Help Desk, the Financial Aid Office, the Martha Gault Art Gallery, and the TV Studio. The Help Desk helps students with all their technology needs, including email and password information. The Financial Aid Office provides information about financial aid application, scholarship opportunities, and financial literacy and budgeting. The Martha Gault Art Gallery is free and open to the public Mondays through Thursdays from 11-5. It hosts vibrant and diverse art exhibitions every month throughout the academic year, from professional, faculty, and student artists. The Maltby Center TV Studio is a technical oasis where all Communication students can escape the traditional classroom setting to apply what they learn in their coursework to creating high-quality, portfolio-ready productions.

McKay Education Building

If you are an education major, you're sure to spend some time in the McKay Education Building. McKay is home to our CAEP accredited College of Education, a recognition earned by only 18 schools in Pennsylvania. SRU is the 3rd largest producer of teachers in Pennsylvania and offers programs in early childhood education, elementary education, middle-level education, special education, physical & health education, and secondary education. Constructed in 1929, McKay is home to classrooms, children's library, a dance studio, faculty offices, and a child care center where SRU students gain real world experience working directly with children.

Performing Arts Center

The Performing Arts Center has recently undergone a 33-million-dollar renovation making it one of the region's premier performance spaces. It is home to the 753-seat Miller Theater, 2 dance studios featuring Harlequin sprung floors and floor-to-ceiling windows, and a state-of-the-art scene shop. The building is also a stop for regional and national touring performances and the departments of Theatre, Dance, and Music stage multiple productions here each year. The Theatre Department has earned its national accreditation through the National Association of Schools of Theatre and produces 5 original productions each year in Miller Theatre and the Stoner Black Box Theatre. The Department proudly offers two BFA degrees in Acting with concentrations in Musical Theatre and Acting and four BA degrees in Acting, Theatre Arts Management, Theatre Studies, and Design & Technology. The Department of Dance has earned its national accreditation through the National Association of Schools of Dance and is home to two resident companies: SRU Dance Theatre and Palenque Colombian Dance Ensemble. The Department offers a BFA degree with Concentrations in Performance & Choreography, and Studio Ownership & Entrepreneurship. The Department also offers a Dance Performance Minor and a Dance Pedagogy Minor.

Stoner East and West

Across the lawn, the Stoner Instructional Complex also known as Stoner East and West, is the home of Dance and Theatre faculty, a 300-seat black box theater and a 210-seat Studio Theater. This historic building also houses two dance studios with Harlequin sprung floors, a full costume shop, warm-up and rehearsal studios, dressing rooms, a design studio, green rooms, and a Pilates/wellness room. One of the most exciting features of the new performing arts complex is the variety of flexible spaces that provide opportunities for students and faculty to gather and build community. The Dance Studio Theater and the Black Box Theater are home to many dance concerts and theatre productions, providing multiple performance opportunities for students, even in their first year!

Strain Safety Building

Strain Safety Building is the home of the Department of Safety Management, which offers a hands-on, practical, and applied Bachelor of Science Degree in Safety Management. The building houses 4 traditional safety classrooms, safety management faculty offices, and five labs (High Bay, General Industry, Construction, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Response and Fire Training). The labs enhance the curriculum by offering students learning opportunities in simulated settings, deliver hands-on activities, and provide dedicated spaces to develop student competencies. The facility is looking forward to the addition of a confined space unit which will be added to the Construction lab this year!

Art Sculpture Building

The 5,100-square foot Art Sculpture Building opened in 2009. The facility offers a state-of-the-art environment for creating works in clay, metal, and other materials. The building includes a woodworking shop, welding and casting room, and main lecture hall that doubles as a sculpture studio. Computers with three-dimensional applications facilitate art projects.

Rhoads Hall

Rhoads Hall is the second traditional residence hall on campus. The building was constructed in 1961 and recently underwent $3 million dollars in renovation to upgrade the residence hall spaces. Rhoads Hall is also home to the Student Health Center and Counseling Services Center. The Health Center is open Monday - Friday 8 am - 8 pm during the academic year and staffed with health care providers who have expertise and experience in meeting the wide range of health needs of college students. A vibrant part of Student Health Services is the Office of Health Promotion which provides interactive wellness programming and outreach on campus to meet students' wellness needs. The Student Counseling Center, available by appointment, provides a safe, confidential environment where students can meet one-on-one with a licensed counselor to discuss social adjustment, academic preparedness, and psychological challenges they face during their decisive college years. Both of these services are provided at no additional cost to the students.

Weisenfluh Dining Hall

Welcome to the Restaurants at *Weisenfluh*. Renovated in 2011, "The Fluh" features several internationally-inspired food stations to satisfy any of your culinary desires. Featuring four dining concepts including Butter & Honey (coffee shop with breakfast and lunch options); Sear & Sizzle (burgers, chicken and various grill items); Revolve (various cuisines that rotate throughout each semester); and Bento Sushi (Pan Asian). There is also grab-and-go station that features breakfast, coffee, and other quick items such as sandwiches and salads. Weisenfluh is designed as an ideal space for students to study, connect with friends, or just grab a quick bite on the way to class.

President's Walkway

Stretching from Weisenfluh to Morrow Field House is the President's Walkway. Along the path are four large rocks representing your four years here at SRU, from first-year to senior year. Just as the rocks become more polished as you progress down the walkway, your rock solid education will gradually transform you into a polished professional, ready to take on the "real world." It's a tradition for our students to take a first-day-of-school photo at each of the rocks each year, representing their four years of college experience here.

Art Building

Welcome to the Art Building. In the 1950's this building was known as "The Hut" and housed student dances and social functions. Today, it is one of five Art buildings on campus. Students can take courses in Ceramics, Drawing, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Fiber Art, Metalsmithing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture. Patterson Hall

Demonstrating SRU's commitment to sustainability, Patterson Hall was a residence hall until 2008 when it was reengineered to become a 21st century classroom building with modern facilities. Highlights of the renovation include a world-class technology exercise facility where students gain hands-on experience working directly with clients. Patterson houses the College of Health Professions Dean’s office. This college was created in 2021 to better organize health-related disciplines to promote health professions. Additionally, the college provides career pathways for SRU undergraduate students, allowing them to enter graduate school for health disciplines. Patterson houses the departments of Exercise Science & Athletic Training, Recreational Therapy, Healthcare Administration and Management, and Nursing. Located in 005 Patterson Hall, Student Support helps students to articulate their needs, establish goals, and identify resources. Student Support acts as a central location where faculty, staff, students, parents or community members can refer a student experiencing or causing distress that interferes with learning, development and success.

Morrow Field House

The Morrow Field House is home to the Department of Physical and Health Education, which has concentrations in School Wellness Education and Physical Activity and Fitness Management. It is also home to our Adapted Physical Activity program, Department of Athletics, and many of our Division II athletic teams and coaches' offices. There is an indoor track that circles the main basketball court, where commencement ceremonies are held each semester. The Field House also houses a performance activity lab, computer lab, a basketball court, track, racquetball courts, swimming pool and Grasstex area for indoor fitness activities and athletic practices. Morrow Field House is attached to the Jack Dinger building, which is the home of the department of Public Health and the department of Social Work. Social work is the perfect major for individuals looking to make a difference in the lives of others. Benefits of the social work program include service learning and internship opportunities, faculty relationships, and certification programs.

Spotts World Culture Building

Spotts World Cultures Building is home to the College of Liberal Arts, the Office of Global Engagement, and the Institute for Nonprofit Leadership. Students interested in making the world a better place will enjoy working with the Student Nonprofit Alliance which is also housed in this building. Students can find helpful resources for study abroad, or international students may find a home in the Language Center. Spotts is also home to the departments of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Languages, Literature, Cultures & Writing, History, Homeland/Corporate Security and Leadership, Nonprofit Management, Empowerment and Diversity Studies, Philosophy, and Political Science, so nearly every student on campus will have at least one class taught in Spotts. Renovated in 2016, Spotts is rich with new technology, an impressive new archeology lab, and engaging learning environments that include cozy study spaces on each floor where students can read and review quietly or meet with fellow classmates.

SGA Pavilion/Quad

In the heart of campus is the quad, a popular place for students to hang out in between classes. Standing in the center of the quad is the SGA pavilion where student organizations hold various events to engage with students. Stop by anytime and you will likely see students enjoying the sunshine, music, and even tossing a frisbee.

Advanced Technology & Science Hall

The Advanced Technology and Science Hall, or ATS for short, opened in 2006. This building is home for students studying geography, geology, and the environmental sciences, chemistry, and computer science and cybersecurity. ATS houses 20 different laboratories including: biochemistry, geographic information systems, robotics, cybersecurity, virtual and augmented reality, organic chemistry, and general chemistry. The Robotics Lab gives students the opportunity to create and test real life robots, artificial intelligence and machine learning. The second floor houses the Robotics lab with Pepper, Furhat and humanoid robots, virtual and augmented reality lab with a 3d projector, Oculus Quest 2’s and Hololens, and the Cybersecurity lab . Even if you aren't a science student, make sure you check out the view of campus from any third floor classroom.

Eisenberg Classroom Building

*Eisenberg* Classroom Building or "ECB" as it is known, is home to our College of Business. Here you will find such programs as management, marketing, accounting, economics, finance, communication, resort, recreation and hospitality management, and sport management. The School of Business is proud to have earned the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business or AACSB accreditation in 2021. In 2010, the nationally recognized Sport Management Department was the first undergraduate program in the US to be accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation, or COSMA. ECB is also home to our nationally-recognized student newspaper The Rocket. For those of you who want a job on Wall St. or in the newsroom, you'll feel at home with the news and stock tickers on display 24 hours a day in the lobby.

Swope Music Hall

*Swope* Music Hall is home to our Department of Music. Students can choose to specialize in general music, music education, performance, or music therapy. The building holds classrooms, a band room, rehearsal spaces, a state-of-the-art music therapy clinic, and performance spaces including an auditorium that seats nearly 300 people. If you're interested in becoming a music major at SRU, Swope will be your second home. And even if you're just musically inclined, the rehearsal spaces are also available to all students to play their own instruments.

Bailey Library

The Bailey Library directly supports the modern technology, research, and study needs of our students. In the front of the library, you'll find a café, offering the usual coffee and other beverages, as well as light food and snack options. The library holds nearly a million cataloged items including books, academic journals, e-books, and audio/visual items. Library faculty specializing in the research needs of every major are available to assist students. The library's Technology Learning Center, or T.L.C., offers scanners, MAC computers, specialized software programs, and peer-to-peer technology assistance. The Instructional Materials Center, or I.M.C., offers education-related books, games, kits, and more. Elsewhere in the library, there is ample space for individual or group study sessions, including the 3rd floor which is completely dedicated to quiet study. The library also provides over 200 desktop computers and several printers, for student use. The building houses a number of additional student services such as the Tutoring Center, Writing Center, Office of Disability Services, Exploratory Studies & Academic Progress, Success Coaching Program and Career Education and Development, which hosts 3,000 individual appointments annually with students to prepare them for internships, interviews, and future careers.

Vincent Science Center

Vincent Science Center opened in 1968 and was renovated into a modern learning center in 2011. In the center of Vincent Science Center sits a planetarium that is open for all SRU students to enjoy. The building houses the departments of Biology, Mathematics & Statistics, Psychology, Physics, and the School of Engineering. Students enjoy several state of the art classrooms, laboratories, and study areas. This building also houses a mathematics and statistics tutoring center that is open to all students. Research laboratories in the building allow for faculty to engage students in hands on training in a variety of research techniques including: cell culture, confocal microscopy, microbiology, and histology. Several engineering labs are housed in this building, including the core lab, drilling fluid lab, 3D printing lab, machine shop, computer lab, and design studios. Other engineering labs may be found in the Physical Therapy Building.

Physical Therapy Building

The School of Physical Therapy Building is the home of our Doctor of Physical Therapy program, which is of interest to those undergraduate students studying pre-physical therapy programs in biology, exercise science, health care administration, public health, or recreational therapy. In addition, several engineering labs are housed in the first floor, including civil engineering labs and mechanical engineering labs.

Boozel Dining Hall

The award-winning *Boozel* Dining Hall is 35,900 square feet and includes eight food stations, open kitchens, lounge seating and Boozel Express, a grab-n-go station open 24/7. Boozel is one of the first dining halls in the country to offer a live-fire Brazilian churrasco food station, as well as vegetarian, vegan, and other specialty options to cater to students' dietary needs. Most of the food that is served here is prepared fresh by the staff each day. The facility won a "Dining Hall of Distinction" award from University Business magazine. Smith Student Center

Constructed in 2012, the Robert M. Smith Student Center is the hub of student life on campus and serves as a literal example of the student-centered SRU experience. With areas for studying, hanging out with friends, or just grabbing a coffee on your way to class, you'll always find the Student Center abuzz with activity. The Student Center is home to Starbucks, the SGA Bookstore, Rocky's Food Court, and the first Quaker Steak and Lube ever located on a college campus. Most importantly it is home to our Student Development Suite, a collection of student-focused organizations and departments including Student Engagement and Leadership, Office for Inclusive Excellence, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and the Student Government Association. The Suite also houses a Veteran’s Lounge, the Women's Center, Pride Center, and multicultural lounge. The building includes a ballroom, a theater with accordion seating, First National Bank, and administrative offices. Keeping with SRU's commitment to sustainability, the sustainable features of the building include a rain garden and a green roof.

Residence Halls

There are many reasons why SRU's residence halls have been recognized as some of the best in the nation. The six-building residential suites housing complex anchors our residential village. More than 2,600 students live in the suites. Students may choose from primarily doubles, and double suites with private bathrooms and kitchenettes. Double Studios are the most common set up and the room of choice for first-year students. Amenities in the residential village include: individually-controlled air conditioning and heat, wireless access, lounges with computers, cable television, pool tables, and laundry and trash facilities on every floor. The residential suites house Living Learning Communities (or LLC's) where students with similar interests live and study together.

ROCK Apartments

The Rock Apartments are available to upper-class students only, who enjoy the convenience of being on campus, and having an affordable furnished apartment. Apartments consist of 4 private bedrooms (furnished), semi-private shared restroom, full kitchen and furnished living/dining room. No meal plan is required but available; the lease is for the academic year, with options to extend into summer courses. For students who value the convenience of being on campus Rock Apartments may be the option for you.

Aebersold Recreation Center

Campus Recreation facilities include the *Aebersold* Student Recreation Center *(ARC)*, McFarland Outdoor Recreation Complex (MAC), Ski Lodge, Disc Golf Course, Campground, High Rope, Low Rope and Leadership Reaction Courses. The ARC has a fitness center, 5 gymnasiums, indoor track, indoor climbing wall, swimming pool, group fitness studios, and pool patio. The MAC has 4 multi-purpose fields, 2 softball fields, and exterior lightning. The ski lodge has seating for 100 people and inside and outside fire pits. The campground has multiple sites with picnic tables and fire rings. These facilities are used for informal recreation and structured programming. Some of the major programs offered are personal training, group fitness, outdoor adventures, aquatics, intramurals, sport clubs, and REACH programming.

Mihalik-Thompson Stadium

Constructed in 1974, The *Mihalik-Thompson Stadium* seats 10,000 fans and is home to many of our varsity athletic teams. The stadium is named after two of the most legendary head coaches in Slippery Rock football history: N. Kerr Thompson and George Mihalik. All games are free with an SRU student ID to attend and if you're lucky enough to catch a home game at night, you'll see a spectacular sunset on the horizon. Mackoskey Center

The *Macoskey* Center for Sustainability Education and Research is located on 70 acres of campus and is SRU's hub for sustainability education and action since 1990. The facility was established to encourage SRU faculty, staff, and students as well as members from the surrounding communities to adopt a lifestyle that meets the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The Macoskey Center hosts educational workshops, opportunities for interdisciplinary research, and large events. It is named after the late Dr. Robert A. Macoskey, an SRU philosophy professor, who envisioned creating a more sustainable community. The site includes the Harmony House, hiking trails, a learning garden, a community garden, chickens, a greenhouse, a two-story barn, and much more."

Storm Harbor Equestrian

The 12-acre Storm Harbor Equestrian Center opened in 2005 and provides students with professional preparation and research opportunities. The facility includes a barn, indoor and outdoor riding arenas, stalls for 18 horses and 12 acres of pastures, a sensory trail and other riding trails. The indoor arena features radiant heaters and synthetic footing along with a Surehands lift mounting riders using a wheelchair to support the facility's mission of helping riders with physical, social, cognitive and emotional disabilities. The center serves over 250 participants a week in an equine assisted activity setting.

Butler Succeed Building

This is SRU's Center for Community Engagement, Empowerment, and Development, also known as SUCCEED. Located on main street in nearby downtown Butler, the Center is currently comprised of three SRU programs including the Office for Community-Engaged Learning (OCEL), the Institute for Non-Profit Leadership (INL), and the Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator (SEA). Designed to enhance the quality of life in Butler city and county, while supporting SRU students learning, research, and civic engagement, SUCCEED serves as a bridge and resource in support of a broad range of mutually-beneficial campus and community collaborations and engagement opportunities. Butler SUCCEED connects Butler County with SRU to empower each, transform both, and enhance quality of life for all.
