Welcome to Santa Monica College, the leading transfer college in the state of California, and home of the Corsairs! Students come to SMC from all corners of the globe. In fact, we have more international students here than any other 2-year college in the nation. We know that our world-class faculty, transfer record and affordable tuition have something to do with our wide appeal. And there's no question that our location, just one mile from the Pacific Ocean in Los Angeles County, has something to do with that, too. Join me and explore just some of the highlights of our bustling campus.

Quad

The social center of campus is definitely here at The Quad, and you can probably see why. The four-acre area was awarded the 2009 Los Angeles Architectural Award in the Landscape Architecture category. Not just a place for the SMC community to socialize and relax, the Quad hosts concerts, special events, and regular club gatherings such as Picnic on the Quad and Club Row.

Corsair Field

Corsair Field is located just east of 16th Street, in close proximity to several other SMC athletic facilities, including the Gym and Swim Center. The field hosts a range of Corsair events from soccer to football and track and field on Morrison Track. Santa Monica College's athletic teams have won many state and division championships, competing in the challenging Western State Conference. Our outstanding alumni have gone on to play for Division I teams in the Pacific-12 Conference and some even go on to play professionally.

Bookstore

The Bookstore, located in the heart of campus, offers new and used textbooks and supplies for all your class needs. Students who have finished using their textbooks can participate in the Buyback program and pocket some cash. This is also the place to pick up gifts, apparel and other SMC merchandise. Most items in the Bookstore are also available online.

Canyon Center Cafe

The Canyon Center Café offers students, staff and faculty a wide array of fresh foods, including many options for health-conscious eaters. It's no surprise that SMC takes food and health seriously; our campus is located within a short distance of award-winning restaurants and markets, and our campus also hosts the Good Food Festival. For students who are looking for a beverage or snack to go, there are several lighter options and also vending machines for a quick energy boost between classes.

Art Complex

You'll notice something special as you approach SMC's Art Complex, located closest to 20th Street, and that's SMC's very own Organic Learning Garden. Inside the complex you'll find the visual arts classrooms, studio spaces, offices and gallery that serve the Art Department. Studio Art, Art History and Design degrees are offered here. SMC's foundation art program has a strong reputation, and many of our students continue on to the top-ranking four-year art schools in the nation. One of several art galleries throughout campus, The SMC Pete and Susan Barrett Art Gallery here displays contemporary art from around the community, the nation, and the world.

Drescher Hall, formerly known as the Technology Building, is located on the north end of campus. This facility is home to many humanities and science classes, labs, faculty offices, and tutoring centers. One unique feature of the hall is John Drescher Planetarium on the building's second floor. The Planetarium offers showings to the SMC community with public showings on Friday evenings. Also located on the second floor of Drescher Hall is the SMC Photo Gallery, showcasing the talents of Santa Monica students, with free exhibits and opening receptions.

Liberal Arts

The Liberal Arts Building is located just off of Pearl Street, close to the Library and Letters and Science buildings. This is where students come to attend a wide range of classes, workshops and group meetings. The building, like many other award-winning SMC campus facilities, is equipped with smart classrooms and makes good use of natural light. Several key student services offices are also located here including the Veteran's Resource and Assessment centers, Childcare Services, the Adelante Program for SMC's Latino community, and the office of Psychological Services.

Letters and Science

The Letters and Science Building, which used to house the original SMC library, now serves as a key academic and administrative facility. The Communication Department is based here, offering programs in Broadcasting, Communication, Film Studies, Journalism, & Speech. Important student clubs such as the SMC debate team, film club and the college's weekly newspaper, The Corsair, all come from this department. Clubs are popular at SMC; you'll even find a meeting for the Ballroom and International Folk Dance Club here in the Letters and Science Building.

Library

SMC's Library is centrally-located, close to the Math Complex and Liberal Arts and Letters and Sciences buildings. In addition to a well-rounded print and electronic collection supporting our academic programs, the Library offers 21 study areas. The Library also offers students access to 215 computer workstations located in the Computer Commons on the first floor, the Computer Lab on the second floor, and The Bibliographic Instruction Classroom. Students can also bring their own laptops to the Library and enjoy full wireless Internet access. Library services include a range of classes, workshops and events.

The Library Commons is a popular hangout spot for SMC students. It's a great place to meet up with friends or get some reading or work done in a fresh air setting. The Commons is also an excellent place to stop and appreciate our beautifully-designed campus. The Library, Quad, Gym, Café and Bookstore are just a few steps away.
