Eastman Quad

Welcome to the University of Rochester and the Eastman Quad. A statue is dedicated to the quad’s namesake and major university benefactor George Eastman can be found next to Lattimore Hall. Eastman, founder of the Eastman Kodak Company, donated millions of dollars to the University of Rochester, founded the university’s Eastman School of Music and helped to start its School of Medicine & Dentistry. Medical Center

The University of Rochester Medical Center is located across the street from the River Campus and is home to Strong Memorial Hospital, *Golisano Children’s Hospital, School of Medicine & Dentistry, School of Nursing and Eastman Institute for Oral Health. Undergraduates have access to research, internships and volunteer opportunities throughout the medical center.

Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences

The Hajim School of Engineering offers twelve undergraduate majors designed to prepare students for graduate studies and a lifetime career, rather than simply for a specific job. The engineering school's naming recognizes Edmund Hajim's many decades of service and contributions to the University, including his $30 million gift commitment in 2008 to the engineering school. Students are encouraged to participate in research projects both in the school and through internships. Each program is flexible enough to allow students to pursue elective coursework and even study abroad.

Simon Business School

The Simon Business School, located on the River Campus, is one of the six schools that make up the University of Rochester. Simon has been ranked as a top business school worldwide and offers full-time, part-time, and executive MBA programs, as well as master's programs. Lattimore Hall, directly across from Dewey Hall is also one of the original 1930 River Campus buildings. Lattimore Hall houses the College Center for Advising Services, the Office of the Registrar and serves as the home of the Deans’ Office.

Dewey Hall

Located on the Eastman Quad, Dewey Hall is one of the original 1930 River Campus buildings. Dewey Hall is home to classrooms and lecture halls along with many student services departments. The student services departments include The Greene Center for Career Education, Center for Education Abroad, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, The David T. Kearns Center and the Office of Minority Student Affairs.

Rush Rhees Library

Designed to serve as a centerpiece of the River Campus when it was dedicated in 1930, Rush Rhees Library is now home to the Art and Music Library, the Barbara J. Burger iZone, the Janis and James S. *Gleason Library, the Department of Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation, and the Rossell Hope Robbins Library and Koller-Collins Center for English Studies, and the University Archives. Twice per year, the Rush Rhees tower is open to students who want to climb to the top and enjoy a beautiful 360-degree view of the entire River Campus and the City of Rochester.

Wilson Commons

As a central location for campus life, Wilson Commons provides space for meetings, special events, recreation, and dining throughout its five floors. The building also houses Wilson Commons Student Activities, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, the student newspaper the Campus Times, Hartnett Art Gallery, Starbucks, and a Sub Shop.

Frederick Douglass Commons

The Frederick Douglass Commons is named after the abolitionist leader and writer who also spent 25 years of his life in Rochester. The building was built in the 1950s, but received a major renovation in 2016 to create a hub for student life. Inside, you'll find The Douglass Dining and an ""All-You-Care-To-Eat"" dining location, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The building is also home to the Paul J Burgett Intercultural Center and the Language Center.

Genesee Hall

Genesee Hall is the newest residence hall on the River Campus. Overlooking the Genesee River and Rochester's athletic complex, Genesee Hall houses freshman students and features meeting spaces, locker and training rooms for athletic programs. The modern building was designed with a commitment to sustainability with water-efficient fixtures and energy-saving systems.

Susan B. Anthony Hall & Danforth Dining Center

Named for the famous local suffragette, is a hall of four interconnecting wings: Gannett, Gates, Morgan, and Hollister. There are lounges with kitchenettes on each floor. It features a rooftop solarium, several large meeting and programming areas, and a beautiful formal lounge overlooking Fauver Stadium and the Genesee River. Susan B. Anthony Halls also contain one of the two major student dining locations, Danforth Dining Center. It also houses Hillside Market, which offers local coffee, grocery items, hot food, and much more. The Market is open late hours for students up late studying or hanging out with friends.

Warner School of Education

The Warner School of Education, housed in LeChase Hall on River Campus, offers master's, doctoral, and advanced certificate programs in counseling, educational leadership, education policy, health professions education, higher education, human development, online teaching, program evaluation, and teaching. Prince Athletic Complex

Athletics at Rochester play a vital role in the entire Rochester experience, whether as a Yellowjacket at play, or as a supporter in the crowd. Named for a benefactor and Rochester alumnus, the Brian F. Prince Athletic Complex comprises Fauver Stadium, a 5,000-seat multi-sport facility; a baseball field; outdoor tennis courts; and team practice areas.

Georgen Athletic Center

The Goergen Athletic Center is one of the largest buildings on campus and extends a full city block. Inside, you'll find a fitness center, gymnasium, basketball courts, squash courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a small indoor track and turf. The athletic center hosts several fitness classes free of charge for students. The athletic center also has extensive hours, which make it easy for students to fit in a workout even on a busy schedule.

Rettner Hall

Designed as a hub for the arts, sciences, and engineering on the River Campus, the Ronald Rettner Hall for Media Arts and Innovation provides a place for students to gain both practical skills and theoretical understanding of digital technology. The building houses two of the University’s academic programs: digital media studies and audio and music engineering. Rettner features an engineering fabrication lab where students can build project prototypes, a multipurpose learning studio, group study areas, and exhibit space for students to display their projects. The building also contains sound and video recording studios, high-end computers, and 3-D printers, which represent the latest manufacturing technique to convert digital design software into actual models.

Residential Quad

The Residential Quad is home to all year levels of students in four buildings. *Hoeing, *Tiernan, and a portion of Lovejoy Hall are all 170-student residence halls. Lovejoy houses freshmen and some upperclassmen. All buildings feature floor lounges and kitchenettes to support floor activities, large laundry/vending areas, and study areas. Gilbert Hall is the largest residence on the Quad. It houses approximately 300 students, primarily in double rooms. Major features include a large programming area, ample kitchen to support large activities, and a connected outdoor patio area to extend programs.

Todd Union/ Sloane Theatre

Formerly the River Campus student union, Todd Union is home to the International Theatre Program, Todd Theater, the Campus Mail Center and a branch of J-P-Morgan Chase Bank. Currently under construction next to Todd Union is the Sloan Performing Arts Center. Slated to open in 2021, Sloan is the first space to be specifically designed and dedicated to the performance of music, theatre and dance and represents the university’s commitment to the performing arts as a priority area of study and outreach.

Rochester School of Nursing

Interfaith Chapel

The Interfaith Chapel is a place for people to worship in their particular faith and a place where people of different faiths, or no religious tradition at all, can share in dialogue, worship, and interfaith education. Our multi-faith community and our interfaith engagements contribute significantly to the rich diversity that is the University of Rochester experience. The Interfaith Chapel welcomes those who strongly identify with their religious tradition, those who are “spiritual but not religious,” and those who want no affiliation at all. The chapel is a place where students can connect, create community, join together in fun and service, learn about the faith of others, deepen their own faith, discuss the “Big Questions,” and explore their own values and identity.

Jackson Court

Jackson Court is the home to O’Brien Hall, Anderson Tower, and Wilder Tower. Jackson Court was first created in 1962 with Anderson and Wilder Towers as an expansion to student housing. O’Brien. Anderson and Wilder are mostly suite-styled and O’Brien’s is a mixture of double and single rooms. The three buildings share a courtyard equipped with a brick fireplace, grill, and even a sand volleyball court. Sage Art Center is located between Anderson and Wilder and is home to the studio art program. Sage provides access to the resources and facilities required to create, exhibit, and critique student art.

Genesee Riverway Trail

The Genesee Riverway Trail is an off-road trail for walking, running, and bicycling, along the Genesee River. It extends through the scenic, historic and cultural heart of Rochester, from the Erie Canal to downtown and Lake Ontario. It provides pedestrian access to the Genesee River, its scenic gorge, three waterfalls, eight pedestrian bridges, and eleven parks. Many Rochester students take the trail into the Genesee Valley Park, just outside the River Campus, for recreation.

Laboratory for Laser Energetics

The Laboratory for Laser Energetics was established as a center for investigating high-energy physics, particularly the interaction of intense radiation with matter. LLE is a resource for researchers and educators across the nation and is funded partially by the US Department of Energy. The lab also houses the world's highest-energy ultraviolet laser, OMEGA. With a commitment to both innovation and mentoring, the lab offers opportunities for students at all levels—even high school—to get involved in the game-changing research happening here.

College Town

When Rochester students want to get off campus, they can head to the edge of campus to College Town, a 110,000-square-foot mixed-use district. Opened in 2015 and located next to the University of Rochester Medical Center, it is the home of the University Barnes and Noble bookstore where students get their books, supplies, and Rochester apparel. College Town also includes several local shops, restaurants, university offices and a Hilton Garden Inn.

Eastman School of Music & Eastman Theatre

The Eastman School of Music is located in downtown Rochester, about 3 miles from the River Campus. The Eastman School of Music strives to create a musical community that is rich with cultural, social, & intellectual diversity and give students an intensive professional education in their musical disciplines. River Campus students can take music lessons for academic credit and have access to over 1,000 concerts per year. Since its opening in 1922, the Eastman Theatre has always been Rochester's preeminent performance space. Throughout its history, Eastman students have frequently shared the stage with some of the world's greatest musicians, composers, and conductors.

Memorial Art Gallery

Genesee Valley Park

Genesee Valley Park was designed by famed landscape architect Frederic Law Olmstead and is located next to the River Campus along the eastern bank of the Genesee River. GVP is one of the oldest parks in the area and has numerous hiking trails, biking paths, two 18-hole golf courses and Is home to the Genesee Valley Sports Complex.
