Larsen Hall

Larsen Hall houses programs in the social sciences, including psychology, sociology and anthropology, women and gender studies, Latin American studies, religious studies, and race and ethnic studies. Fun fact: Inside Larsen Hall is the Meditation Room, one of the first "contemplative classroom" spaces in the country. As a student at Redlands, you'll look forward to May. Why? Because our 4-4-1 academic calendar allows you four extra weeks after the spring semester—our May Term— to delve deeper into what you love. It might be community service, research on an independent project or a course that combines your interests, such as Business in Film or Chemistry for Art. You might choose to travel. Redlands is one of the top colleges in the nation for study abroad—whether you travel for a month or a semester, you can become immersed in another culture and grow intellectually and personally. Destinations include our semester-long Salzburg Program in Austria and integrated semesters in Mexico and Guatemala.

Duke Hall

Duke Hall is home to the business department, where students learn from professors who themselves have worked in the corporate world and in other sought-after environments. Faculty are committed to helping our business majors identify which career path is best suited to their interests. Students leave Redlands with jobs at places like Microsoft and Amazon, to name just two.

Administration Building

The Administration Building was built in 1909 with facades on each side that mirror one another. With stunning views of the beautiful lawns and trees of the University Quad, Memorial Chapel, and the mountains in the background, it's one of the most iconic spots on campus. The Administration Building is also home to the Office of the President.

Redlands' curriculum gives you the freedom to explore, with more than 45 academic programs of study. Even as you gain depth in your chosen major, a broad range of liberal arts foundation courses will be at the heart of your studies. You'll take many of those courses at the Hall of Letters—home to our humanities departments. Here you'll find inquiring minds in action, thanks to small class sizes that allow lively discussions. In fact, our student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1 means your professors will get to know you personally, so they can serve as advisors and mentors who guide your academic path and help you launch your career after Redlands.

Home to our nationally recognized programs in communicative disorders, the Truesdail Center also houses a seven-room clinic where our speech-language pathology graduate students, under faculty supervision, serve about 75 patients each week. What's more, our undergraduate communicative disorders majors can become familiar with clinical work by serving as an apprentice to a graduate student clinician. Collaborative, personal, and meaningful, like all learning at Redlands, the Center contributes to our reputation for producing caring and expert professionals.

Among the newest academic buildings on campus, the Center for the Arts includes Ann Peppers Hall, the Frederick Loewe Theatre, and the Glenn Wallichs and Black Box Theatres. Art majors and non-majors alike utilize the state-of-the-art, Gold LEED-certified Ann Peppers Hall for painting, graphic design, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. In the Wallichs Theatre, you can attend plays, musicals, operas, and dance performances. Add in workshops for prop making and costume design, and it means our students gain experience in front of and behind the curtain.

The Johnston Center for Integrative Studies is home to our groundbreaking living-learning program for students who want to design their own education. Here you'll find a level of academic freedom like you've never experienced, with independent studies, interdisciplinary academic programs, narrative evaluations—instead of grades—that describe your accomplishments in detail, and a community of students and faculty interested in your ideas and plans. About 200 talented and intellectually curious Johnston students live and learn together in a complex that includes two residence halls, faculty offices, a coffee house, classrooms, and community spaces.

Watchorn Hall

Watchorn Hall is home to California's second-oldest nationally accredited School of Music. Two undergraduate degrees are offered in a conservatory-like experience—the Bachelor of Music in Performance, Composition, or Music Education, and the Bachelor of Arts with a major in music. Non-music majors are encouraged to participate in music classes, ensembles, and private lessons. Each year the School of Music presents more than 200 performances, and our studio teachers are among the finest musicians in Southern California.

Memorial Chapel

As the visual anchor of the University Quad and the most recognized building on our campus, the Memorial Chapel has a long tradition of serving as a gathering space. Redlands is an independent, non-sectarian University, and the Chapel houses our campus ministries office and hosts diverse worship services. It serves as the venue for the 68-year holiday tradition called the Feast of Lights, the Redlands Symphony performances, and guest lectures by prominent speakers from Maya Angelou to Gloria Steinem to Jane Goodall, and from award-winning journalist James Fallows, former Vice President Al Gore and former Secretary of State and Redlands alumnus, Warren Christopher.

Residence Halls

A residence hall at the University of Redlands is more than just a place to rest your head at night. Living in a hall puts you under one roof with a diverse set of individuals, ideas, and cultures, making your residential life active and vibrant. More than 90 percent of students spend some time living in on-campus housing, and they are able to choose from a variety of living environments. For example, Melrose Hall is situated on the northeast side of the quad and is often referred to as the "quiet" hall. Residence halls can be single-sex, coeducational, or apartment style, but all of them give you a genuine sense of community.

Hunsaker University Center

The hub of student life is our Hunsaker University Center, where students come to eat, attend events, and just simply hang out. In addition to the main dining hall, Irvine Commons, Hunsaker University Center contains the Plaza Café, the bookstore, the post office, and meeting spaces for student organizations. It's also where you'll find the offices for community service learning, Greek life, outdoor programs, and more. With students in charge of planning activities, our campus calendar is filled with concerts like FallFest, performances by comedians, and talks by noted speakers such as Olympian David Boudia and Magic Johnson.

As the intellectual center of the University, the Armacost Library contains spaces that foster teaching and learning, and is always evolving to respond to today's complex information systems. The library represents the scholarly life of Redlands, where students are inspired to explore ideas on their way to becoming reflective thinkers and responsible doers. This spirit of learning is part of why Redlands has been recognized as a top producer of prestigious Fulbright scholars nationally, with students garnering 20 awards in the last seven years to continue their studies in graduate programs. And for those who wish to launch their careers immediately upon graduation, the library also houses our Office of Professional Development, with a full range of tools and resources for job seeking.

Lewis Hall

The first truly "green" building on campus, Lewis Hall is home to the environmental sciences and graduate degree program in Geographic Information Systems, or GIS. Faculty like to point out that the building itself is also a teacher: demonstrating resource management, sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental design. Built six-feet underground, it's earth-sheltered to preserve energy and utilizes a photovoltaic array for solar power. Lewis Hall also houses our Center for Spatial Studies, which trains students to work with multi-dimensional representations of information, and our GIS program, where students can benefit from Redlands' relationship with Esri, the world's largest provider of GIS software.

Science study at Redlands is interactive, interdisciplinary, challenging and intensely personal in our Stauffer Science Complex, which boasts state-of-the-art facilities in Appleton, Hedco, Gregory, and Lewis Halls. The complex is also active during the summer, when around 20 outstanding Redlands students are selected to participate in faculty-directed research that gives them the type of intensive lab experience that, at other universities, is normally reserved for graduate students. It's partly why our science students go on to be accepted into some of the best graduate programs in the country.

We are often told that the community of Redlands is as much of an ideal small college town as you can get in Southern California. A visit to the historic downtown shows you why—local eateries, coffee spots, and unique shops serve students and community members alike. Redlands is also home to what is believed to be the longest-running free summer concert series in the United States at the nearby Redlands Bowl—just one of many cultural, recreational, and entertainment draws to the area.

The most common reaction we get from visitors is "Your publications don't do the campus justice." As hard as we try, our admissions publications and even this online tour cannot fully convey the beauty of our campus or the friendliness of our community.
