One of Paris' most well-known destinations, The Eiffel tower is visited by nearly 7 million people annually. Constructed as the entrance to the 1889 World's Fair, the Eiffel tower was initially criticized by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but has since become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The tower, named after engineer Gustave Eiffel, is the tallest structure in Paris, standing 1,063 feet tall. During its construction, the Eiffel Tower surpassed the Washington Monument to become the tallest man-made structure in the world, a title it held for 41 years until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930. Due to the addition of the aerial at the top of the tower in 1957, it is now taller than the Chrysler Building by 17 feet.

Palais Garnier - Opera

The Palais Garnier is a 1,979-seat opera house, built between 1861 and 1875 for the Paris Opera. Located on the Boulevard des Capucines, the structure was originally called Salle des Capucines, but became known as the Palais Garnier, in recognition of its opulence and its architect, Charles Garnier. The theatre was the primary home of the Paris Opera and its associated Paris Opera Ballet until 1989, when the Opéra Bastille opened at the Place de la Bastille. The Paris Opera now mainly uses the Palais Garnier for ballet.

The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. It stands in the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle, historically known as the Place de l'Étoile. The arch honors those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all the French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.

The Jardin du Luxembourg, or the Luxembourg Garden, was created in 1612 as part of a the Luxenbourg Palace, a new residence for Marie de' Medici, the widow of King Henry IV. Today, the garden is owned by the French Senate, which meets in the Palace. The garden covers 23 hectares and is known for its lawns, tree-lined promenades, flowerbeds, the model sailboats on its circular basin, and for the picturesque Medici Fountain.

Pont Alexandre III

The Pont Alexandre III is widely considered the most ornate and extravagant bridges in Paris. It is lavishly decorated with lampposts and sculptures of cherubs and nymphs, and on each end stands two gilded-bronze statues of the Greek Goddess Limos. The bridge connects the Champs-Élysées quarter with those of the Invalides and Eiffel Tower.

Known for its student life, lively atmosphere and bistros, the Latin Quarter is the home to a number of higher education establishments besides the University of Paris itself, such as the Lang–Martinez Psychiatric Hospital, the École des Mines de Paris, Panthéon-Assas University, the Schola Cantorum, and the Jussieu University campus. The area gets its name from the Latin language spoken in and around the university in the Middle Ages.
