Welcome to Olds College of Agriculture & Technology! We look forward to showing you around our beautiful campus, which is located in central Alberta. If you're looking for something different in a post-secondary institution, you'll find it here. We are proud to say that we are NOT just a typical college...we are UNIQUE and it shows. Student Services

Welcome to the Learning Resource Centre! Upstairs, we have the Learning Commons, which is more than a library. You'll find research and academic support services and IT help, along with Accessibility Services, a Maker Space with 3-D printers and a 24 hour computer lab and study area. Downstairs is the Health and Wellness Office. They offer free mental health counselling, an on-staff nurse, and weekly doctors appointments. Don't forget to stop by the Campus Store for your books, clothing and giftware! And just down the hall is the Crossing Restaurant and Pub, as well as the Office of the Registrar, who can help with scheduling, transcripts and financial aid.

Student Housing

Many students choose to live on campus, and they benefit from access to an instant community, lots of extra-curricular activities and - on average - a higher GPA. We offer two styles of housing: most 1st year students will be assigned to Centennial Village, which has 450 single hotel-style suites that include a bed, desk and private washroom. Students in these rooms will eat just across the street in the cafeteria. The other option is our townhouses, which include 4 private bedrooms and 2 bathrooms per unit, with a shared kitchen and living room.

Elements Dining Fusion, the main cafeteria located in Frank Grisdale Hall will meet all of your nutritional needs! Choose from freshly prepared entrees, favourites from the grill, and pizza by the slice, as well as a self-serve pantry and cooking station and a salad bar. Comfortable seating, a fire place, five 60-inch TVs and charging stations help to make your meal comfortable.

Fitness Centre

Located within the Ralph Klein Centre is our fully equipped state-of-the-art fitness center complete with three gymnasiums and 200-meter indoor track. This is the place where our varsity athletes train, practice and compete, but membership is also included free of charge for any full time student. The Centre also includes a High Performance Sport lab, which provides elite strength-conditioning and dynamic sport movement training for local community and emerging national team level athletes. Students in our Sports Management program will find their perfect fit here! College students will also have access to swim at the Aquatic Centre, conveniently located right beside Centennial Village.

Animal Health Education Centre

The Animal Health Education Centre opened its doors in the Fall of 2023, and it provides an incredible learning space for students in our Animal Health Technology program as well as the Veterinary Medical Receptionist and Veterinary Technical Assistant programs. This facility hosts a small animal hospital, complete with dental and surgical suites, an X-ray lab, and diagnostic labs and examination areas. Our students work closely with local animal rescues to provide much-needed care while they gain hands-on experience in their field.

Werklund Agriculture and Technology Centre

The Werklund Agriculture and Technology Centre features 3,000 square metres of technology focused learning space, including a lecture theatre, three large hands-on ag-tech labs, collaboration and group areas for students, as well as a student commons space located in the heart of the building. This building serves as the home for our Werklund School of Agriculture Technology, including the ground-breaking Bachelor of Digital Agriculture.

Smart Farm

The Olds College Smart Farm is made up of 3,600 acres of land for crop and forage production including state-of-the-art equipment and technology, a one thousand head capacity feedlot, commercial cow/calf herd, Purebred Red Angus herd and sheep flock — as well as expertise and leadership in ag tech research and development. The Smart Farm creates a place for producers, industry partners, students and faculty to look at the opportunities and challenges facing the agriculture industry and investigate solutions to evolve agriculture practices.

Land Science Centre and Greenhouses

This is our Land Sciences building which is truly a giant indoor living laboratory. It includes classrooms and labs for the Horticulture, Turfgrass Management and the Land & Water Resources diploma students. We have 12 greenhouses providing over 20,000 square feet for study and experimentation. We also have an Entomology, Pathology, Botany and Soils Labs and a Herbarium collection. To the east, you'll find the 12,000 square foot BMO Landscape Pavilion - a place for Landscape Horticulture students to practice their skills during the cold Alberta winters! It includes an earth floor for landscape projects, an irrigation installation and testing system and a climbing wall for Arboriculture students.

Equine Facilities

Our expansive Equine facilities provide a home for the Equine Care & Management program, the Farrier Science Certificate and Equine Reproduction Certificate, along with a variety of Continuing Education options for horse enthusiasts, such as Equine Massage and Race Track Jockey and Grooming courses! Two riding arenas host space for Western and English riding, ground training, Rodeo events and team practice as well as stabling for up to 76 horses. The Farrier Labs and Equine Reproduction and Foaling Barns provide work-integrated learning opportunities for our students. You can even board your own horse on campus!

National Meat Training Centre

The National Meat Training Centre is an extensive multi-purpose facility fully equipped to accommodate the instruction of our unique 15 week Meat Processing Certificate. We teach the science and hands-on practical techniques needed to produce premium quality cuts of meat. The course includes professional meat cutting, trimming, wrapping, sausage-making, curing and food safety. We are also Alberta's training site for humane handling and stunning of animals. Graduates gain the experience needed to start their own entrepreneurial business venture or take their skills to Canada's third largest industry!

Trades & Apprenticeships

The W.J. Elliott Building makes use of an old airplane hangar which has been refitted as a mechanics lab and classroom. Students in our Agricultural and Heavy Equipment programs and apprenticeships get a chance to work on millions of dollars worth of equipment under the guidance of our experiences trades instructors here! Just south of here is the Metals Building. Originally built in 1964, it was extensively renovated in 2012 and 2017. It is home to the Welding apprenticeship programs and CWB testing and certification.

Olds College Brewery

This facility is home to our Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management diploma program. We are ideally located within an hour of some of North America's biggest and best maltsers and more than a dozen breweries. Learn the art, science and business of the vibrant and continually evolving brewing industry at the 2,300 square foot brewing facility at Olds College. This two-year program provides you with hands-on training that includes developing recipes, sourcing ingredients and conducting trial brews.

Classrooms and Continuing Education

Duncan Marshall Place, commonly known as DMP, provides classroom space for almost every program at Olds College, as well as administrative offices. Named for the Agricultural Minister of the 1930s, this is one of the most historic buildings at Olds College. You'll find our Continuing Education department here, which offers flexible non-credit short courses, distance learning and online programs that accommodate a busy lifestyle. This building also hosts a Tim Horton's Express, along with a student lounge and a study space for students in the School of Life Science and Business.

Wetlands

Welcome to the Constructed Wetlands! This incredible research and learning facility encompasses 15 acres, and includes 19 ponds with 1.3 kilometers of pathways. Natural wetlands play an important role in the environment by improving the quality of the water that moves through them. As water makes it way downstream through a series of ponds, the quality of the water is changing. In order to measure this change, sensors have been installed in each pond. Our Land and Water Resources students use this area to learn about water testing and remediation techniques.

Botanical Gardens

Olds College's Botanic Gardens enhance and support education, training, demonstration, and applied research programs that span generations and encourage the exchange of information and ideas with industry, students, other botanical gardens and the public. The Botanic Gardens also raise awareness with the public regarding the importance of sustainable environments.
