Every fall, following the First-Year Student Convocation Ceremony, our newest Bobcats enter through the gate together to College Green for the Student Involvement Fair, which showcases more than 500 student organizations including professional and academic organizations, intramural sports teams and fraternity and sorority life. Alumni Gateway is a popular place for photos for both new and graduating students. College Green

College Green is the heart of Ohio University's campus and is home to several historic buildings, including Cutler Hall, which was the first academic building constructed west of the Allegheny Mountains and north of the Ohio River. Cutler Hall now houses the Office of the President as well as other senior administrators. It is flanked by McGuffey Hall and Wilson Hall, which houses the administrative offices for the College of Arts and Sciences. College Green is a scenic place to pass through between classes or to relax and enjoy the dappled sun while catching up with friends.

Scripps Hall

Built in 1904, Scripps Hall was originally a Carnegie Library, serving Ohio University and the Athens community until 1930. The building was renamed Scripps Hall in 1986 when it began to house the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Today, Scripps Hall still serves the Scripps College of Communication. It houses the Speaking Bobcats, the Ohio University Forensics Team and the Game Research and Immersive Design Lab, better known as the GRID Lab. An esports competition arena, a state-of-the-art addition to the building, opened in Fall 2022. The arena features tournament space, high-end gaming PCs for community play and the latest software development tools for esports- and STEM-related classes.

Galbreath Chapel

Nestled in the southeast corner of College Green, Galbreath Chapel is a fitting symbol of Ohio University's inclusive community. Named for alumna Helen Mauck Galbreath and commissioned in her memory in 1957 by her husband John Galbreath, the chapel's interior has no permanent furnishings that would be identified with one particular religion and there are no restrictions on the type of services that may be conducted in the space. It is a popular and charming spot for alumni weddings and is open daily for prayer and reflection. The chapel also hosts university events, including concerts, lectures and readings.

Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium

Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, or MemAud as it's known, is a great place to attend performances or lectures. Musicians such as Ben Harper, Finneas and BB King, as well as many Broadway musicals, have performed here. MemAud has also hosted history-makers such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt, and U.S. presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter and Obama. Students help plan these major events by joining organizations like University Program Council or the Black Student Cultural Programming Board. MemAud's West Portico extends onto College Green and is a popular spot for outdoor performances, including the Under the Elms concert series, which features a band composed of university and community members.

The Academic Engagement Center, formerly the residence of Ohio University's presidents, serves as home to the Center for Campus and Community Engagement, the OHIO Honors and Scholars Programs and signature academic engagement programs like the Cutler Scholars and the OHIO Fellows. One of many honors and scholars options, the renowned Honors Tutorial College with its one-on-one tutorials, is the only degree-granting college of its kind in the country. Interested in telling stories through television or radio? Studios in the Radio-Television Building on North Green are the perfect space for communications and journalism students to refine their skills in front of — or behind — the camera. North Green is also home to Voigt Hall, Ohio University's only all-female residence hall, which houses the Women's Leadership Living Experience, and Yamada International House, home to the Center for International Studies. OhioHealth Campus Care is conveniently located on North Green. This student health center provides mental and physical health services at convenient hours and accepts most health insurance. Kantner Hall houses the School of Theater, part of the College of Fine Arts, where in the University's tradition of hands-on education, students can see a play transform from an idea to the final curtain call. The University's prop shop and costume design studio are also here, along with multiple stages that regularly feature students' creative work. Patton Hall is home to the Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education. The first teacher education college in Ohio, the Patton College prepares future educators and human service professionals to be leaders. Patton College emphasizes a commitment to equity, justice and diversity. Students are prepared to teach or work in a variety of school settings, including rural and Appalachian areas. The new HOPE program is the first ever hip-hop based education program to prepare teachers to incorporate culture and fun within their lesson plans and, in alignment with Brothers RISE, is working to strengthen public education by recruiting students, particularly African American males, to be teachers.

With the feel of a tree-lined neighborhood, this part of campus houses the highly regarded Patton College of Education as well as residence halls, including honors and scholars housing. South Green is home to residence halls and an abundance of outdoor recreation space. The newest residence halls house about 900 second-year students in suites composed of two double rooms with a shared restroom. The site includes central offices for Housing and Residence Life as well as multipurpose, classroom, lounge and study areas. South Beach, the area between East and South Greens, is a recreational space offering sand volleyball and basketball courts. Adams Hall offers suite-style rooms for upperclass students. Suites are composed of two double rooms with a shared restroom. Adams Hall is part of the Side Five, a grouping of new residence halls on South Green. The new buildings are green — that is, they are built to LEED Silver or higher standards for energy and environmental design. They are also fully ADA accessible. Side Five buildings feature lounge spaces for students to gather for social and educational events hosted by Resident Advisors, who serve as peer mentors in the community. The Charles J. Ping Recreation Center is a 160,000 square foot recreation facility spanning three floors. It offers recreational activities for every interest at no additional charge to students. Here you'll find a 36-foot-tall climbing wall; basketball and volleyball courts; multipurpose gyms; and an indoor track. The center also houses a cardio fitness area, yoga, weight training, and locker rooms. OHIO offers both club and intramural sports, more than 30 club sports compete against other colleges and universities across the country while thousands of OHIO students compete in intramural sports ranging from basketball to soccer to broomball in pursuit of the Intramural Sports Bobcat Challenge Cup.

Life Sciences Building

The Life Sciences Building houses faculty, graduate students and generous research facilities. Intentionally designed so that labs are open, the space allows researchers to move easily between labs and fosters collaborative interaction. The building includes temperature-controlled rooms and other spaces for experiments and animal housing. Students at OHIO are encouraged to participate in research and creative activity as early as their first year. By learning from faculty who are experts in their fields and developing their own research questions, OHIO students can contribute to their field of study and benefit society. This new three-story building includes more than 34,000 square feet of teaching and research space for students studying chemistry and biochemistry. A modern forensic chemistry lab provides improved facilities to help College of Arts and Sciences students prepare for in-demand careers, and the glass enclosed nuclear magnetic resonance laboratory brings science to everyone visiting the building as visitors can see state-of-the-art instrumentation at work along with students conducting experiments. The first floor of the building provides expanded spaces for active learning experiences, such as the Peer Led Team Learning classes in which students meet to work through challenging problems with the help of a student who has successfully completed the class.

Grover Center is home to the College of Health Sciences and Professions. OHIO is a founding member of the Mid-American Conference, in which our 16 varsity teams compete at the NCAA Division I level. Peden Stadium is the home of Bobcat Football, with seating for 24,000 fans. Students can attend all regular season varsity home games at no additional cost. As early as Bobcat Student Orientation, students can join the popular O-Zone to root for the Bobcats from a special cheering section. The Ohio University Marching 110, the most exciting band in the land, performs at events throughout campus all year, including home football games. Known for a unique marching style and choreographed dance moves, the band has performed around the world.

A fixture on West Green, Stocker Center is home to the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. Heritage Hall is the newly constructed home of the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, offering a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide students with a cutting-edge medical education. Hockhocking Adena Bikeway

The bike path, officially known as the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway, follows the Hocking River for more than 20 miles three of which curve through the heart of the Ohio University campus. The bike path is a popular place for students to walk, run, rollerblade and, of course, bike. The cherry blossom trees lining the path on West Green were a gift to Ohio University from Japan's Chubu University in 1979 – 175 trees in honor of Ohio University's 175th anniversary.
