Statue of Liberty

Also known as "Liberty Enlightening the World," the statue was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States, and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.

Ellis Island

Located off the southern tip of Manhattan Island, Ellis Island is one of the most significant historical locations in the United States. It's estimated that nearly half of Americans can trace their family history to at least one person who passed through the island when it was an immigrant inspection station. Today, Ellis Island is home to the Ellis Island Immigration Museum and is considered part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. At the museum, visitors can learn about the island's history before, during, and after its use as stepping stone to America.

South Street Seaport

The South Street Seaport is home to some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan, and includes the largest concentration of restored early 19th-century commercial buildings in New York City. Some of the attractions you can experience at South Street Seaport include renovated mercantile buildings, renovated sailing ships, the former Fulton Fish Market, and modern malls, featuring food, shopping, and nightlife.

Situated at the intersection of two major roads, Broadway and Fourth Avenue, the park is known as the gateway to downtown Manhattan.

Herald Square

Named for the New York Herald, a now-defunct newspaper formerly headquartered at the location, Herald Square is the epicenter of the retail corridor that runs from 5th Avenue to 7th Avenue. NYC visitors, however, might better recognize the location as the terminus for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Empire State Building

One of New York City and America's most enduring icons, the Empire State Building stood as the world's tallest building for nearly 40 years, losing the title to the original World Trade Center in 1970. The skyscraper stands 102 stories, or 1,454 feet tall when its antenna spire is included. Today it's the 25th tallest freestanding building in the world, and the fourth tallest building in the United States.

With massive digital billboards whose bright lights make midnight look like midafternoon, star-studded Broadway shows, and unique street venders, Time Square is a feast for all the senses. It's estimated that almost 26 million people visit Times Square each year.

Grand Central Terminal

Built and named for the New York Central Railroad, Grand Central is one of the city's most significant transportation hubs, and by far it's most gorgeous. Featuring monumental spaces and meticulously crafted detail, Grand Central ranks as the 10th most-visited tourist attraction in the world, according to Travel + Leisure. It's estimated that almost 21.6 million people visit the station annually.

Top of the Rock

The Top of the Rock Observation Deck, located atop the historic Rockefeller Center, has long been a favorite spot for NYC visitors. The deck, which is built to resemble the deck of an ocean liner, offers sightseers a bird's eye view of the city, competing only with the observatory of the Empire State Building.

Brooklyn Bridge

John Roebling's engineering masterpiece was the world's longest suspension bridge upon its completion in 1883. One of the most recognizable structures in NYC, Brooklyn Bridge has been featured in countless movies and television shows and, as the first land passage between Manhattan and Brooklyn, represents a critical piece of New York City history.
