Since 1919, The New School has brought scholars, artists, and designers together to challenge convention and create positive change. Our university, located in the Greenwich Village area of New York City, combines a world-renowned design school, a progressive liberal arts college, a performing arts college for 21st-century artists, and longstanding graduate programs. Our collective goal is the creation of a more just, more beautiful, and better-designed world. The University Center, located at the intersection of 13th Street and Fifth Avenue, is the center of the New York City campus. The 16-story building features state-of-the-art classrooms, a library–research center, an 800-seat auditorium, a cafeteria and event café, Career Services offices, a hub for Student Justice, and a student residence. New School students meet in spaces designed to promote collaborative, interdisciplinary learning—a cornerstone of the university's educational philosophy.

The New School Libraries and Archives provides resources and services for the entire New School community. The Arnhold Forum Library space provides a variety of seating options; bookable group workspaces and quiet study areas; computer workstations and printing, scanning and copying services; highly-used materials in art and design; physical reserves and self-checkout kiosks. In addition to our onsite content, students can request from over 70 million books available in our consortium to be delivered to any of our library locations. Our collection of books, journals, scores, photographs and images, audio-visual materials, and archives and special collections are digital and may be accessed remotely.

Advising staff at The New School help you navigate your university journey. Our advising team take a holistic, one-on-one approach to guiding your education, combining the resources of our Student Success offices, career advisors, and faculty mentors. They are your first points of contact and invaluable throughout your time on campus—and for your future.

Facilities and Equipment Office

The Equipment Center, located on the 9th floor of Arnhold Hall, allows students to reserve and check out audio and video production equipment for field and studio use, including still and video cameras, lighting equipment, field recorders, and more. The Technical Services Office, located on the 6th floor, provides support to the building's Smart Classrooms, ensemble classrooms and various practice rooms. Students have access to amps, snare drums, cymbals, electric and upright basses, latin percussion instruments, a Nord or a Moog, by swiping their New card in locations throughout the building.

The New School dining program prides itself on serving chef-created, diverse, healthful foods. Its mission is to provide real farm-to-table food that promotes the health of our students, community, and planet. Given the great diversity of tastes, cultures, and class schedules, New School students' have a number of flexible dining plans. In addtion, the cafetria offers some of the best views of Fifth Avenue that New York has to offer.

John. L. Tishman Auditorium

The John L. Tishman Auditorium, is an 800-seat performance and presentation space, featuring a reconfigurable stage ideal for many university events. This multi-purpose space boasts state of the art technology, bamboo walls, and houses dance and musical performances, fashion runway shows and a variety of public programs.

Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts

Located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, this building is the main home for Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts. Inside are the faculty, staff, and advisor offices, classrooms, science labs, a computer lab, and a cafeteria. The New School Free Press—our university-wide, student-run publication—operates out of this building. It is also home to Wollman Hall, where campus events and public programs are held.

The College of Performing Arts at Arnhold Hall

Arnhold Hall is the home for the College of Performing Arts and provides academic and performance space for Mannes School of Music, the School of Drama and the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. Inside, you'll find the faculty, staff, and advisor offices, the Theresa Lang Community and Student Center and a newly designed Practice Village, a recital hall, concert hall and The Glass Box Theatre, which houses The Stone At The New School, an influential experimental music club, curated by John Zorn.

The building contains classrooms, faculty offices, advising space, and rehearsal and performance spaces primarily for graduate students in Directing, Playwriting, and Acting, and sometimes for undergraduate students in Dramatic Arts.

Sheila C. Johnson Design Center

The Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, situated at the corner of 13th Street and Fifth Avenue, combines the ground floors of four historic buildings to form an urban quad. The award-winning design brings academic facilities for Parsons' graduate, undergraduate and associates degree programs together with two street-facing exhibition spaces, open to public view.

Parsons has two state of the art galleries with more than 4000 square feet of exhibition and installation space that host work by renowned artists and designers, faculty and students. Appearing at main street level, they allow students to obtain construction, installation and presentation experience in a high- profile exhibition setting.

The university's Making Center, a spacious studio bringing together creative tools from around the university, offers students unprecedented opportunities to acquire industry-ready skills, transform how products are made, and upend conventional notions of supply chains, local production, mass customization, and craft. For the first time ever, students from all of Parsons' programs can explore cutting-edge and traditional making technologies together. Architectural details, such as vaulted ceilings, wood floors, and brick walls, surround a new generation of creators with evidence of makers past.

The Parsons East Building, located between Fifth Avenue and University Place, houses several undergraduate and graduate academic programs for Parsons School of Design, including Fine Arts, Interior Design, Product Design, Lighting Design, and Architecture programs. Parsons East includes space for BFA and MFA studios, department offices, and more than 13,000 square feet of open loft studio space for the School of Constructed Environments.

The Parsons making space at 39 West 13th Street houses students enrolled in the MFA programs in Fashion Design and Society and Textiles. Its approximately 25,000 square feet of studio space includes a garment construction studio, textile making spaces, collaboration rooms, a student lounge, and ample fabric and yarn storage space. Lighting tailored to the needs of students has been installed throughout. Here, graduate students have access to a variety of tools and equipment, including: Sewing machines, Knitting machines, Looms (floor, table, tapestry), Spinning wheels, yarn winders, warping boards, Irons and steamers, Construction tables and dress forms, Textiles work tables and pin-up boards, and Fabric and yarn storage.

Alvin Johnson/J.M. Kaplan Hall

Alvin Johnson/J. M. Kaplan Hall is the original home of The New School. Today it houses the Offices of the President and Provost. Also, you'll find lecture and seminar spaces, dance studio for Lang dance majors, the university's box office, English Language Studies, the University Learning Center, a variety of lecture halls and offices for our Bachelor's Program for Adult and Transfer Students, and other degree programs in The Schools of Public Engagement. This building also holds two unique spaces: an auditorium which seats 500 people for public programs, and the Orozco Room, which features five socially-themed frescoes designed specifically for The New School by muralist *José Clemente Orozco*

Albert and Vera List Academic Center

The Albert and Vera List Academic Center, located between Fifth Avenue and Union Square West, houses nearly 158,000 square feet of space for teaching, research, and faculty and administrative needs. The building is also home to the List Center Library, where students will find the university's collections for the humanities and social sciences. Also inside, you'll find classrooms, design studios, faculty offices, resource centers, archives, and study and multipurpose facilities.

Loeb Residence

Loeb Residence was the first residence hall owned by The New School. Today it houses 272 students in suite-style accommodations with full-size refrigerator, cabinets, stove top, oven, and dining table and chairs. An energetic and committed staff makes Loeb Residence ideal for first-time college students looking for a strong community and active programs and events. The residence features recently renovated amenities including a quiet study room, outdoor patio space, television lounge, music practice rooms, art studio, and fitness room.

301 Residence

Located just around the corner from the Stuyvesant Park Residence Hall, 301 brings together our residential community in the vibrant Stuy Park neighborhood, which features Stuyvesant Square Park, the East River Bikeway, and close proximity to public transportation, shopping, and dining. This 24 story building is due east of Union Square and a 15 minute walk from the University Center. It features outstanding views and a one-stop shop of campus services to help you get the assistance and support you may need, all from the comfort of your residence.

Kerrey Hall Residence

Located on floors 8 through 16 of the University Center, Kerrey Hall is a LEED-certified residence, housing 617 students. Offering remarkable views of the city and easy access to classes, suites have a full bathroom, kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, cabinets, stovetop and microwave, telephone, and dining table and chairs. The bedrooms are fully furnished and have individual room temperature controls and cable TV jacks. The entire building is set up for Wi-Fi Internet access. The residence features abundant amenities and large common spaces, including a student lounge, laundry room, fitness room, art studio, and music practice rooms.

20th Street Residence

The 20th Street Residence Hall is located in the historic Chelsea district, which has long been a bastion of artists, writers, and intellectuals and world-class art galleries, restaurants, and music venues. Designed for independent, suite-style living, the 20th Street Residence is home primarily to sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate and AAS students. The residence features a quiet study room, outdoor patio space, television lounge, music practice rooms, art studio, and fitness room.

Stuyvesent Park Residence

The Stuyvesant Park Residence is located in the Greenwich Village/Murray Hill neighborhood and features superb views of Stuyvesant Park and easy access to campus buildings. A 12-story suite-style residence, it houses 635 students and includes numerous common spaces—such as a lounge, study room, fitness room, art studio, and music practice spaces.

The Welcome Center in Fanton Hall, situated at the corner of 13th Street and Fifth Avenue, is the first stop for all visitors and prospective students. An all-purpose centralized facility for current and prospective students, Fanton Hall houses Student Financial Services, Registrar, Student Accounts, Student Leadership and Involvement and other Student Services. It serves new and returning students as an enrollment center where they can register for classes, pay bills, obtain transcripts and enrollment verifications, file for financial aid, and receive admission counseling.
