Welcome to the Maharishi University of Management virtual tour. Like many of the buildings on campus, it was designed according to the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Vedic architecture. The Argiro Center houses an auditorium, two dining halls, student cafe, student lounge, banquet room, bookstore, mailroom, and offices for student-related activities. The LEED-certified building incorporates advanced green features: heat exchangers to capture heat from the kitchen, daylighting, extra insulation, and nontoxic materials.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING CENTER

The Sustainable Living Center embodies the main principle of MUM's Sustainable Living Program: life in tune with natural law. The building uses wind and solar energy to produce more power than it uses. Building materials are predominantly local, from the whole aspen trees that support it to the 25,000 student-made earth blocks that provide thermal mass. The roof is a rain catchment system, and the entire south side is a greenhouse that provides solar heating as well as space for student projects. Like the Argiro Center, the Sustainable Living Center is LEED-certified and built according to Maharishi Sthapatya Vedic principles.

The Maharishi School provides Consciousness-Based education for preschool through grade 12. Fully accredited as a college preparatory school, it emphasizes sustainability through its Nature Explore Classroom, solar photovoltaic panels, 4100-square-foot greenhouse, and Seed to Table program where students learn to grow and prepare vegetables and then get to eat them. The McLaughlin Building is home to both the undergraduate and Masters programs in Computer Science. Here you'll find classrooms and computer labs, seminar rooms, and the Computer Science library. Several classrooms in the McLaughlin building are equipped for videotaping the distance-education classes that are part of the graduate Computer Science program.

MAHARISHI VEDA BHAVAN

Maharishi Veda Bhavan is home to two academic departments: Maharishi Vedic Science and Literature. Besides these offices, it houses several classrooms and the Vedic Literature Reading Room and Library. Maharishi Vedic Science is the core technology of MUM, and the name Veda Bhavan means "place of knowledge" in Sanskrit.

The Dreier Building is home to key administrative offices for the university. Here you'll find Admissions, the Enrollment Center, Financial Aid, the Student Life Department, and the Dean of Students. There are also classrooms in the Building, as well as tutoring and counseling services. Constructed in 2000, Dreier was the first university building designed and constructed using the principles of Maharishi Vedic Architecture.

The Arts Center provides classrooms, studios, and gallery space for the Art Department and the Media and Communications Department. Studios include ceramics, painting and drawing, video production and editing, graphic design, and electronic music production.

The Recreation Center is a 60,000-square-foot indoor facility, one of the largest indoor university sports facilities in Iowa. Facilities include a track, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, a 28-foot rock climbing wall, weight room, gymnastics center, and ping-pong tables. The Recreation Department also oversees the outdoor swimming pool during the summer months, the outdoor tennis courts, and the soccer field.

Hildenbrand Hall--the main women's dorm--is on the west side of campus. All rooms are single occupancy, and residents have easy access to lounges, a meditation hall, laundry facilities, a community kitchen, and a fitness room with equipment designed specifically for women.

The Visitor's Center houses visitors attending our monthly Visitors Weekends. There are 20 private rooms with shared baths in the men's wing and 18 rooms in the women's wing, along with one family suite with a private bath. Laundry facilities and a refrigerator are available in the building. A campus shuttle takes visitors to meals and meetings.

The Golden Dome Market provides organic groceries, local organic dairy products, fresh produce, hot and cold beverages, and snacks on the north end of campus. The produce department features fresh organic vegetables from MUM Organic Farms, often picked that morning. Organic lunch and dinner are served daily, upstairs in the cafe. Golden Dome Market is another example of Maharishi Sthapatya Vedic architecture.

The Maharishi Tower of Invincibility is a 45-foot marble tower that pays tribute to the peace-creating effects of those practicing the TM-Sidhi program in the two Golden Domes. Over a dozen published sociological studies have shown that large groups practicing the TM-Sidhi program have a strong positive effect on social indicators such as crime, quality of life, and armed conflict.

The Maharishi Patanjali Golden Dome is a 22,000-square-foot building where Yogic Flying is practiced together. Faculty, staff, students, and community members gather in large groups twice a day to create coherence in themselves and the environment. Meditators from all over the world come to Fairfield to be with like-minded people and enjoy the deeply relaxing bliss generated day after day in the men's and women's domes.

Heading North of Fairfield--in Maharishi Vedic City--we have Headley Hall. This is the home of the David Lynch Masters in Film program.The David Lynch MA in Film is the first and onlyConsciousness-BasedEducation film and screenwriting program available anywhere. Students learn about deep story and the entire process of filmmaking—from a real-world perspective—while developing their creative potential through their practice of Transcendental Meditation. Headley Hall features private student offices and editing studios.

The Cambridge SportsPlex is principal feature of Fairfield's recreation center. No matter what season it is, there's always plenty to do at the Sportsplex. You'll find a swimming pool, sauna, and hot tub, along with racquetball, basketball, volley ball, and tennis courts. There's an indoor track for walking and running, batting cages, and a weight room with machines, free weights, and other workout equipment to keep you fit and healthy.

Located in the heart of the cultural district, the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center is a gathering place designed to showcase a world of arts and culture. The Center is home to the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts, the first building in the United States to be named for celebrated composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. The intimate theater stages national touring performances, dance recitals and various events that showcase the musical and performing talents of Fairfield's residents. It also serves as a venue for conventions and community events of all kinds.

Revelations Cafe is one of the most popular hangouts in Fairfield. It's a coffee house, restaurant, and also a used book store. The wood burning oven produces some of the best pizza anywhere, with organic dough & tomato sauce made from scratch, as well as local organic cheese. You can also get soups, salads, and pasta, along with delicious desserts. The spacious venue has plenty of tables on the main floor, with an additional banquet room downstairs. Upstairs, you'll find even more shelves full of books, and another cozy space where various workshops and events take place.

CAFÉ PARADISO

Another of the primary hubs for social life in Fairfield, Cafe Paradiso is an intimate live music venue with acts playing weekly for an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. Both locally and internationally-known musicians and entertainers of all kinds fill the stage year-round. Born out of a passion for great espresso, the locally-owned cafe offers its own unique blend of coffee that's organic whenever possible and roasted daily, on-site. In the summer, the venue spills out into tables outside, making it the liveliest corner of the Fairfield Square.

Like many Iowa towns, downtown Fairfield is laid out around a central square with a gazebo in the center. Every first Friday of the month, an Art Walk draws the community to the Square, along with residents of neighboring towns. The First Fridays Art Walk celebrates creativity, culture and community, and supports the arts in all forms. The Square is also the host for a wide variety of art galleries, boutiques, restaurants and other businesses.
