College of Business

In the College of Business, we provide a tech-focused education that prepares students for successful careers in business, government, and nonprofit organizations. We offer eight bachelor's programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. And, students have the option to earn an accelerated Master of Business Administration—the TechMBA®—in just one additional year of study. Our accomplished faculty bring a wealth of practical experience and expertise to the classroom. They encourage students to participate in internships, co-op programs, and other hands-on opportunities. Our Applied Portfolio Management Program, housed in our state-of-the-art trading lab, allows students to manage more than $2 million of real money in the financial markets.

College of Computing

Tech's College of Computing is the first and only college of our kind in the state. We educate and empower tomorrow's AI experts, data defenders, and tech entrepreneurs with degree programs in computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, data science, and more. Our interdisciplinary approach allows students to apply computing concepts to various fields, including engineering, natural resources, and social sciences. For example, our students use computing to envision a more sustainable future through research in smart energy systems, intelligent transportation, and environmental monitoring. Through strong partnerships with companies like Ford, Google, and IBM, we provide students with opportunities to work on real-world projects and gain valuable experience.

College of Engineering

The College of Engineering is the largest academic college at Michigan Tech, and is home to nine departments—each focused on a different engineering discipline. More than 15 bachelor's degree offerings range from traditional programs like mechanical and electrical engineering to emerging programs like biomedical and robotics engineering. MTUengineering stands out with an emphasis on hands-on learning, interdisciplinary instruction, industry partnerships, sustainability, and entrepreneurship to prepare students for successful careers in engineering. In our world-class Unit Operations Lab and Process Simulation and Control Center, seen here, students in chemical engineering and other related fields gain valuable experience running real-world chemical processes and operations in an industry-standard pilot-scale learning environment.

College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science

The College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science offers bachelor's and graduate degree programs aimed at preserving and protecting our natural world. Our forestry program is accredited by the Society of American Foresters. Our research focuses on forest ecology, natural resources management, and sustainability, and students gain real-world experience and career opportunities through strategic partnerships with industry, nonprofits, and government agencies. Many of our programs include a semester-long integrated field practicum at the Ford Center and Forest, a 3,700-acre research and education center. In addition to its research laboratories, classrooms, and lodging, the Ford Center serves as a model for sustainable forest management practices.

College of Sciences and Arts

The largest academic college at Tech, the College of Sciences and Arts offers more than 50 bachelor's and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines, including biology, chemistry, psychology, humanities, mathematics, physics, and social sciences. With a broad offering of programs, the one constant is the commitment to providing a well-rounded education that emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills. We have an active research program, and faculty research projects include studying the effects of climate change on entire ecosystems and developing new materials for energy storage. There are many state-of-the-art facilities, including laboratories, research centers, and classrooms like this one—our Humanities Digital Media Zone.

Graduate School

The Graduate School at Michigan Tech offers more than 70 graduate degree options including master's degrees, doctorates, certificates, and online options. Courses of study include engineering, science, technology, business, humanities, social sciences, and more. Through Tech's accelerated master's programs, students can earn a master's degree in just one additional year beyond their bachelor's—saving both time and money while gaining a competitive edge that quickly pays for itself. In the Graduate School, our internationally diverse community of students and faculty provide a supportive and collaborative learning environment. We also offer numerous resources to help graduate students succeed, including workshops, seminars, career services, and funding opportunities such as assistantships, fellowships, and grants.

Pavlis Honors College

The Pavlis Honors College at Tech is unique—we redefine the college experience to measure more than grade point average. Our selective honors program provides a challenging and interdisciplinary curriculum designed to enhance the educational experience of highly motivated and talented undergraduate students. Through our Honors Pathway Program, students create their own curriculum and define success in their own way—launching satellites, managing startup businesses, and performing groundbreaking research. We emphasize research, leadership development, entrepreneurship, community service, and experiential learning opportunities like internships, co-ops, and study abroad programs. Students can begin the application process prior to enrolling at Michigan Tech but are only fully accepted after their first semester is completed.

Enterprise Program

Michigan Tech's Enterprise Program is a flagship educational experience that enables students to work on real projects with industry partners. Each Enterprise is a student-run organization that works on a specific project or set of projects with the guidance of faculty and industry mentors. Open to all Tech students of any major, participants gain valuable experience in project management, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Projects span a range of fields, including engineering, business, computer science, and more. Here, you can see our Formula SAE team working on their race car. Enterprise participants are in high demand by employers and often receive full-time job offers prior to graduation day.

Research and Innovation

There are several research centers and institutes at Tech dedicated to cutting-edge research in environmental science, materials science, energy, transportation, and more. For example, the Michigan Tech Research Institute conducts research in remote sensing, signal processing, and machine learning to address real-world problems in environmental monitoring, homeland security, and defense. Innovation and entrepreneurship are also encouraged, including initiatives to support start-up business ventures. For example, the Innovation Center for Entrepreneurship provides students with resources and support to develop and launch their own businesses. In addition to the Plexus Innovation Lab seen here, we have makerspaces across campus for students to design prototypes, pieces, and parts for their own inventions.

Study Abroad

Michigan Tech offers study away and abroad opportunities in more than 25 countries, including Australia, China, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom. These programs vary from short-term experiences during winter or summer breaks to semester-long programs. Resources and support services are available for students considering studying abroad, including pre-departure orientations, advising on program selection, and assistance with travel arrangements and logistics. Additionally, we offer scholarships and financial aid to help students cover the cost of their study abroad programs. These rewarding and transformative experiences help to broaden our students' horizons with valuable experiences that serve them well throughout their academic and professional careers.

Housing and Dining

Welcome to Wadsworth Hall, one of three undergraduate residence halls on campus. Each of our residence halls is designed to provide a safe and comfortable living environment, while maintaining its own unique style and character. We also offer on-campus apartment-style housing for upper-level and graduate students who prefer more independent living arrangements. Dining options on campus include residential dining halls, a food court, a coffee shop, and other venues where students can grab a quick bite or snack. We also offer a range of cuisine options, including vegetarian and vegan choices, and work individually to accommodate students with food allergies or other dietary restrictions.

Athletics

Michigan Tech's athletics program is home to varsity and recreational sports opportunities. Go Huskies! Our varsity athletic programs include basketball, cross country, football, ice hockey, Nordic skiing, soccer, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and Esports. We also offer club and intramural sports programs, including broomball, ultimate frisbee, flag football, and more. Most of our student-athletes compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, one of the country's top NCAA Division II athletic conferences. Our NCAA Division I men's ice hockey team competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and has seen numerous conference championships and national tournament appearances. Our co-ed Esports team competes in the highly competitive Michigan Esports Conference.

Fitness and Recreation

At Tech, students find many ways to get outside and get moving.

Fitness and recreation opportunities include fitness and wellness classes taken for credit (like Log Rolling, seen here); varsity, club, and intramural sports; skiing and snowboarding at Mont Ripley, our University-owned ski area; golfing at our 18-hole Portage Lake Golf Course; playing tennis at Gates Tennis Center; cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, or biking the Tech Trails; or using the rock wall, swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, and fitness center at our 235,000-square-foot Student Development Complex.

Plus, Tech's Outdoor Adventure Program provides equipment rental, trips, and workshops for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, kayaking, snowshoeing, and mountain biking.

Arts and Entertainment

A variety of arts and entertainment opportunities await Tech students and local community members. The Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts is Michigan Tech's primary venue for arts and entertainment. The Rozsa hosts many events throughout the year, including concerts, plays, musicals, dance performances, comedians, and more. The center also features art galleries showcasing dynamic exhibits and collections from students and visiting artists from around the world. Regardless of academic major, all students at Michigan Tech are welcome and encouraged to participate in the arts, including bands (like the jazz band you see rehearsing here), choirs, orchestra, theatre performances, audio and music production, studio arts, and more.

Student Leadership and Involvement

Michigan Tech's vibrant student life is due in large part to our residential nature. Because our students have an average eight- to 10-hour drive home from campus, there is always a buzz of activity here in the evenings and on weekends. Tech is proud to support more than 240 registered student organizations, ranging from academic and professional societies to recreational and cultural clubs—including our radio station, WMTU, seen here. These organizations provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, pursue interests, and connect with like-minded peers. Students can also develop leadership skills through becoming Resident Assistants, Orientation Team Leaders, Learning Center coaches, Greek Life leaders, and more.

Michigan Tech Traditions

MTU has several long-standing traditions—like making s'mores at Prince's Point, just steps from campus. Here are other favorites: Winter Carnival is Tech's most famous tradition. This weeklong celebration in February features life-size snow statues, broomball, hockey, and other not-so-common winter activities like human ice bowling and snow volleyball. Keweenaw Day (or K-Day) kicks off the school year in the fall—students enjoy food, music, games, and booths to learn about our many student organizations. The Parade of Nations celebrates the multicultural diversity of our community. Students, faculty, staff, and community members fly their home flag, then head to the multicultural festival for food, music, and cultural entertainment from around the world.
