Future Innovation Lab and Welcome Center

This construction site is the future home of our Arrival District, Innovation Lab, and Welcome Center. The Arrival District will create a superior entrance fitting of S&T's academic reputation, and connect the flow of traffic from Interstate 44 to the campus. The Innovation Lab will provide a versatile and comfortable environment for students to foster academic excellence and to serve as a source of pride. The new Welcome Center will create a vibrant destination to greet and orient a diverse range of students to campus. All this, and numerous other forward-thinking initiatives have been made possible by the transformative $300 million gift from S&T Alumnus, Fred and June Kummer.

Student Life - Havener Center

We begin at The Havener Center, a hub for student life on campus. Here, you'll find a game room, The S&T Bookstore, a local banking option, and a diverse food court that includes the very popular Chick-Fil-A! Upstairs, the Student Involvement and Leadership Center houses Student Life, Leadership, and Cultural Programs. It is the "home office" for over 250 registered student organizations on campus including things like spelunking club, Barbecue club, Aerial Swing Dance club, Gaffer's Guild, and much more! Each year, faculty, staff, students, and alumni participate in coronation ceremonies, games, service projects, parades, concerts, and our very popular Homecoming and St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

Student Life - Gale Bullman Athletic Complex

The Gale Bullman Athletic Complex is the home of S&T's intercollegiate athletics, which includes 17 NCAA Division II teams and a newly renovated, 16,000 square foot Fitness Center. The Gibson Arena, varsity weight room, swimming pool, and locker rooms inside the Gale Bullman Building provide premiere facilities for student-athletes. Nearby, Allgood-Bailey Stadium hosts Miner football games and track and field competitions, and features a newly-constructed throw area. The Miner Dome provides an indoor varsity turf field, with baseball, softball, and soccer fields located on-site. Fun fact: S&T's Mars Rover does the coin flip at the beginning of home football games!

Student Life - Jack Carney Puck and Plaza

This circular stage is known as the Jack Carney Puck and Plaza. It is in the center of campus and it is central to S&T Student Life. Not only is it a common gathering area for students to enjoy lunch with friends or hammock on a nice day, but it the location for student events throughout the year, and particularly active during St. Patrick's Day festivities. Each year, the stage is recarpeted to reflect the next ""Best Ever"" St. Patrick's Day. When you visit in-person, our tours for new students start at this beloved landmark.

Student Life - The Rolla Community

Rolla is nestled in the foothills of the Ozarks, conveniently located midway between two major cities, St. Louis and Springfield. Our downtown is walking distance from campus and popular among students for the wonderful shopping, dining, and sight-seeing options it offers. With 5 parks, 6 hiking trails, and numerous other conservation areas, Rolla is the perfect place to unplug from all the noise – especially if you like kayaking, hiking, biking, spelunking, and fishing. You can also enjoy Broadway talent at the Ozark Actors Theatre and get to know the culture and history of the town by visiting the Stonehenge replica and Millenium Arch.

Student Life - Curtis Laws Wilson Library

The Curtis Laws Wilson Library is a hub of creativity, innovation, and learning on campus. Here, you'll enjoy designated quiet areas for studying, a visualization wall for collaboration, and a MOBIUS catalog system that grants you access to the collections of libraries state-wide. The S&T Advising and Writing Centers provide free academic support to all current students. You can also check out laptops and ipads, or get walk-in computer support from our IT Help Desk. Popular destinations include Miner Break Cafe, which serves Starbucks coffee, and the bust of Einstein, which is rumored to raise your IQ by 10 points for two hours when you touch your forehead to his!

Residential Life - Residential Commons

Residential Commons, also known as ""RC,"" is a popular on-campus residence hall for incoming freshman. RC features double suites, double deluxe suites, and single suites – as well as Avenue C, a 24-hour convenience store perfect for all your needs. Each floor has it's own study lounge, entertainment room, and kitchen - with full-size fridge, oven, and microwave. Living on campus is not only convenient, but it's a great way to get involved and become part of the S&T community.

Residential Life - Thomas Jefferson Hall

Thomas Jefferson Residence Hall is community-style housing complex located on the north side of campus. All residence halls have accessible lounges, kitchens, and laundry facilities, but TJ also features ping pong tables, fooseball courts, billiards, and a buffet-style cafeteria. In addition, TJ is host to the Voyager and Holistic Living-Learning Communities, which provide residential experiences that center around students with shared interests. Missouri S&T requires students to live in approved housing through their sophomore year. This includes residence halls, fraternities and sororities, Campus Christian Houses, Miner Village Apartments and the Downtown District.

Academics - James E. Bertelsmeyer Hall

Bertelsmeyer Hall houses the department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, and features unique, state-of-the-art laboratories and student facilities. The department offers areas of emphasis in Biochemical Engineering and certificates on process safety. Chemical engineering graduates work in a broad range of fields like environmental, manufacturing, petroleum, chemical, paper, polymers, plastics, biotechnology, sustainable energy including nuclear energy and its next generation nuclear plant, semiconductors and others. Biochemical Engineering has two specialized laboratories, one in bio separations and one in bioreactors and fermentation, as well as one-of-a-kind research laboratories that you will not find anywhere else in the world.

Academics - Castleman Hall

Castleman Hall houses the Arts, Language, and Philosophy Department as well as Leach Theatre. S&T has a very active and talented group of students in our Performing Arts Programs. Their shows in the Black Box regularly sell out far in advance. The theatre also brings in multiple internationally recognized performers throughout the year. Students put on two major theatre productions - a play in the fall and a musical in the spring, as well as productions from the dance club, ballet, band, jazz band, choir, and orchestra. There are also many student-led music programs like the video game music ensemble and pep band!

Academics – Humanities and Social Sciences

A remarkable hidden gem of S&T is the Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum, which includes Biological Sciences, Business and Management Systems, Economics, Education, English and Technical Communication, History, Information, Science, and Technology, Philosophy, Physics, and Psychology. Found inside the Humanities and Social Sciences building, the Collaboratory is a state-of-the-art research communication hub that connects humanities-based skills and knowledge to real-world problems. The laboratory includes the DeWitt Gallery, a flexible public venue for traditional and digitally formatted educational displays; a Collaboration room where researchers can share ideas related to the intersection of humanities and technology; and a digital production room with a video studio and professional audio equipment.

Academics - Toomey Hall

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Burns and McDonnell Student Success Center are located here, in Toomey Hall. Toomey Hall houses 51 research and teaching laboratories and 10 classrooms including a distance education studio. This building was designed to be a living classroom with exposed mechanical piping, glass walls showing the mechanical room, and a laboratory that allows students to monitor the performance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Toomey also houses three machine shops, an electronic shop, rapid prototyping machines, conference rooms, presentation rooms and other facilities.

Academics - Butler-Carlton Hall

Butler Carlton Hall houses the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering departments and was designed to be a living classroom and learning tool so students apply what they learn in class as they experience the building design. State of the art laboratories include the Baker Greenhouse, where classes study using plants to remediate pollution, and the three-story High-Bay laboratory, which is one of only a few facilities in the country where full-scale bridge and building components can be tested. S&T is among a limited number of universities who offer Architectural Engineering and Environmental Engineering that focuses on undergraduate research and solving some of the world's most pressing environmental issues.

Academics - Emerson Electric Company Hall

Emerson Electric Company Hall houses the Electrical and Computer Engineering Departments. Electrical Engineering is hugely diverse with emphasis areas in communications-signals processing, controls, power generation, electromagnetics, optic devices and more. Computer Engineering includes computer architecture, computational intelligence, networks and software engineering, to name a few areas of specialization. The cutting-edge laboratories and research projects are open to undergraduates, who go on to pursue careers in many fascinating fields. Our alumni work in high-level security issues, artificial intelligence, biomedical applications, managing power grids & grid security, components for aerospace and automobile industries, and much, much more.

Academics - Computer Science

Here in the Computer Science Building, undergraduates study a variety of disciplines including machine learning, data mining, artificial intelligence, graphics, software engineering, and parallel, internet or wireless computing. The department features research in big data, critical infrastructure protection, cyber physical systems and smart computing. Undergraduates have access to sophisticated computer laboratories and the opportunity for undergraduate research with renowned faculty. The Computer Science program is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research and is accredited by the National Security Agency, the US Department of Homeland Security and more.

Academics - Engineering Management

Engineering Management was founded at S&T and is a multidisciplinary program for students who want to be in the middle of everything. S&T offers one of only five Engineering Management programs in the US with ABET accreditation. Students study operations and logistics, financial and industrial engineering, quality control and more. Built on a solid foundation of engineering, math, science, business and managerial skills, this program produces graduates who bridge the gap between engineering and management and work in industrial areas where that dual knowledge is critical. Such areas include technical marketing, project management, quality management, human factors and ergonomics, and product development.

Experiential Learning - Kummer Student Design and Experiential Learning Center

Kummer Student Design Center supports 18 student-led, multidisciplinary design teams that function as independent organizations solving complex technological challenges. Student teams focus on learning the process of global product development, including design, testing, business, manufacturing, logistics and marketing. Projects range from rockets to robots, from airplanes to race cars, and from solving environmental problems with modified bacterial DNA to building solar-powered homes. S&T's Solar Village is a collection of our past entries into the international solar decathlon competition, and features homes that were designed to be as close to "net-zero" as possible – meaning they independently generate enough energy to function without drawing any energy from the main power grid.

Experiential Learning - Experimental Mine

S&T believes that you should learn by doing. Here in our underground experimental mine, you'll engage in field work that complements the skills you develop in our state-of-the-art facilities on campus. V.H. McNutt Hall is such a location, the bustling home to several degree programs! Here: - Mining Engineers experiment in the water-jet technology lab and the Explosives Research Center. - Geological and Ceramic Engineers utilize industry-specific equipment, a materials biomedical group, cutting-edge composite materials technology, and a glass-making lab. - and Metallurgical Engineers enjoy a foundry and material testing labs. With training that integrates engineering and the geosciences, it's no wonder that our Petroleum Engineering program is one of the best in the world.

Experiential Learning - Nuclear Reactor

Missouri S&T's nuclear reactor is used for research, training, and instructional purposes for our undergraduate and graduate nuclear engineering students. It is a pool-type reactor meaning that the middle of the reactor is submerged under 20 feet of water. Missouri S&T's nuclear reactor was built in 1959 and it the oldest reactor in the state of Missouri. In S&T's true collaborative spirit, any student, regardless of major, can work in the reactor and some even receive a license to operate it.
