Welcome to Marietta College, where you will find an amazing community of Pioneers! Marietta is a contemporary liberal arts college committed to helping students develop critical thinking and communication skills, while preparing them to be leaders in their fields and in their communities. We are an inclusive campus that celebrates diversity. Our professors focus on teaching and engaging students in the learning process, and they provide support during each student's academic journey. Located in the historic city of Marietta, in southeast Ohio, the College is home to the 16th chapter of the prestigious academic honorary, Phi Beta Kappa, and is one of only 37 Revolutionary Colleges in the nation.

Student Life: The Gathering Place

Marietta College offers a vibrant student life scene, with more than 80 clubs and organizations. The Gathering Place is the perfect venue for student groups or for students looking to hang out. The space features a performance stage and sound system, multiple big screen televisions, games, comfortable lounge seating and food. In addition to concerts and other live performances, The Gathering Place also has a special area designated for the College's competitive esports program. The esports arena is equipped with high-end gaming PCs, monitors, desks and chairs. Marietta is a founding member of the Great Lakes Esports Conference and a member of the National Association of Collegiate esports.

Marietta is a residential college — so you'll be able to live with 1,200 of your best friends. Harrison Hall features suites and apartments with private kitchens and bathrooms, public laundry and kitchens, study rooms, multiple lounges and bike storage. McCoy Hall offers singles, doubles, suites and apartments. McCoy is home to the Scholars Community and Gender Inclusive Housing. The First Year Complex includes Dorothy Webster Hall, Elsie Newton Hall, Mary Beach Hall, Russell Hall and Marietta Hall. Fayerweather Hall offers mostly single suite rooms, and the College's Greek Housing includes the Delta Tau Delta house, Harmar House, and Hopewell House.

At Marietta College, faculty and staff strive to cause student success. This happens both inside and outside of the classroom. Marietta's nationally recognized Academic Resource Center, which is based in Andrews Hall, offers academic coaching, peer tutoring, special sessions in its Writing Center, accommodations for students with disabilities, monitored study sessions and spaces for studying and learning study skills. The Career Center, located in Gilman Hall, assists students in preparing resumes, developing interviewing skills, helping them pursue internship and employment opportunities, and connecting current students with alumni working in specific industries.

Students who want to take a break between classes can stop in the Gilman Student Center. In upper Gilman, the lounge area has plenty of tables and seating, and you are only steps away from the mail room, the copy and print center, the College Bookstore, the Career Center and Red Brick BBQ, where you can get your favorite BBQ dishes. The first floor houses Gilman Dining, which is the main dining hall, where you can get fresh, wholesome, made-from-scratch meals. Gilman Dining offers Green-to-Go packaging for students who want a hot meal to go.

Whether you want to share a meal with friends or you're in a hurry to get to the next class and want a snack, Marietta has plenty of dining options to fit your needs. There are seven dining locations on campus. The main location, Gilman Dining, offers fresh, wholesome, made-from-scratch entrees, and options for those with special dietary needs. Gilman offers the eco-friendly Green-to-Go takeout option. Other dining locations include Red Brick BBQ in upper Gilman, Izzy's in Andrews Hall, The Gathering Place, Chlapaty Café in Legacy Library, Rickey Grab and Go Kiosk in the Rickey Science Center, and the Pioneer Pit Stop in McCoy Hall.

This incredible facility is the Legacy Library. Nestled in the heart of campus, the library is truly a hub for academic collaboration and independent study. Featuring individual computer stations, quiet study booths, group study rooms and even a fireplace lounge, the library gives students plenty of space to focus on their studies. It also offers a full staff of reference librarians to assist students with materials, research and technology. The Special Collections area is home to historic documents and original collections. And when you need a break, the café offers an array of specialty drinks and snack items.

Marietta College is deeply rooted in the liberal arts — and our core values are front and center in our approach to the humanities and social sciences. Historic Erwin Hall, which was built in 1860, houses our Education degree programs. Thomas Hall features an array of academic programs such as Asian Studies, English, History, Political Science and Spanish. It also has a Writing Center and the Education Abroad Office, for students interested in studying abroad for a semester. Mills Hall includes the Communication Studies program, Organizational Communication and Public Relations, Journalism and Broadcasting, Neuroscience, Psychology, and Master of Arts in Psychology Program. Marietta also offers graduate programs in Physician Assistant Studies and Athletic Training.

If you are curious, analytical and passionate about problem solving, the Rickey Science Center is the perfect next stop on our tour. Students who major in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Health Science, Information Systems, Physics and Applied Physics develop close relationships with their professors, and often engage in research early on in their academic careers at Marietta. This impressive science center features multiple lecture spaces, research labs, including a cadaver lab, computer facilities, study lounges, a planetarium and even a technology makerspace that is equipped with a 3-D printer and tools available for student research and development.

Fine Arts

Inside this stunning building is brimming with creative talent. The Hermann Fine Arts Center is where you will find our Art, Music and Theatre departments, as well as live performances and creative exhibits. The first floor features the Theatre Department, where our Theatre and Musical Theatre students hone their talents and take the stage. The second floor houses the Music Department, where Music, Music Education, Music Therapy and Vocal Performance students learn how to turn their passion for music into careers. The Graphic Design and Studio Art majors are on the third floor, which also features the creative makerspace Deem Design Center, the Atrium Gallery and Gallery 310.

Earth, Energy & the Environment

Leaders in the energy industry know the types of pioneers who are educated in this building. The Edwy R. Brown Petroleum Building houses the Petroleum Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Geology programs. Petroleum students gain hands-on experience in the core and drilling lab, natural gas lab and the senior research lab. Environmental Engineering majors benefit from labs equipped with instrumentation, machinery and testing facilities to prepare them to make lasting and meaningful impacts on the environment. Geology majors can choose from three tracks: Petroleum Geology, Environmental and Engineering Geology, and Paleontology. Geology labs include mineralogy, petrology and paleontology — yes, we have a dinosaur lab.

McDonough Scholars build upon the skills it takes to become a driving force in business and within a community. Health and Wellness

We want our students to be as healthy as possible, and the staff in the Dr. J. Michael Harding Center for Health and Wellness make access to quality health care and mental health services their top priority. Located in Harrison Hall, the Center for Health and Wellness offers health services, counseling and psychological services, and health-related education. From wellness checkups to testing for illnesses, the center provides students with confidential professional care and is also affiliated with local healthcare facilities.

McKinney Hall is home to the Leslie Straub Ritter and Don Rittter Music Therapy program. This incredible facility features group and small clinical areas, observation rooms, teaching spaces and conference tables — and those areas are equipped with video cameras, recording capabilities, and verbal and visual connectivity between the clinical and observation spaces. McKinney also features a fully equipped Dream Weaver Recording Complex, so students can create world-class recordings, plus two control rooms for learning and editing Avid Pro Tools software. Of course, McKinney is musician-ready and offers nearly 100 microphone inputs, a piano room, numerous guitars, basses, Category 5 Amplifiers, keyboards and drums for students to use.

You can maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid the dreaded "freshman 15" by hustling to our next stop, the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. The DBRC, as we call it, houses an area for cardio, weight training, Fenton Court, the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse, two racquetball courts, a fully equipped athletic training facility, an indoor track and a rock-climbing wall. The DBRC also includes four courts that are used for several different indoor activities, plus a multipurpose room furnished with equipment for yoga and dance. Because of the variety of activities available, the DBRC is a regular destination for everyone on campus!

Whether you play for the Pioneers or root from the stands, it's clear that Marietta offers some of the premier athletic facilities in the country. You'll see it on the field and track surfaces at Don Drumm Stadium, where football, men's lacrosse and track compete, Ban Johnson arena, where basketball and volleyball take on OAC rivals; on the impressive blue field where men's and women's soccer and women's lacrosse play; at the Don and Sue Schaly Field at Pioneer Park, where The Etta Express, our six-time national championship baseball team, plays; and especially at the fully renovated Lindamood-VanVoorhis Boathouse, where our rowing teams launch onto the Muskingum River.

The city of Marietta is the first permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory. Named one of the best small towns to visit by Smithsonian Magazine, this picturesque river town offers plenty of indoor and outdoor recreation, including miles of hiking, biking and walking trails. Marietta is a hub for live entertainment, such as outdoor theatre productions, performances in Peoples Bank Theatre and the Adelphia Music Hall, and the annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival. There are numerous cafes, restaurants, boutiques and museums, and you can take a trolley ride to explore the city's rich history or board the Valley Gem Sternwheel to enjoy time on the Ohio and Muskingum rivers.
