The Humanities Center

Welcome to Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore! The Humanities Center is the centerpiece of Loyola's Evergreen campus. Perhaps best known for its welcoming wrap-around porch, where students socialize, study, and take in the view of the Quad, this beautiful Tudor-style mansion houses the president's office, the offices of undergraduate admission, financial aid, and equity and inclusion, the Center for Community, Service, and Justice, the Counseling Center, and the office of international programs. The English, Global Studies, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Theology departments are also located here. Jenkins Hall, the original campus library, is adjacent. It's where the Study offers quiet, comfortable workspaces, free peer tutoring, and academic success workshops.

The Fernandez Center for Innovation and Collaborative Learning

Loyola's newest building is truly state-of-the-art. Featuring dynamic, collaborative learning spaces and classrooms and a café serving up coffee, pastries, and paninis, the Fernandez Center houses our departments of Psychology, Sociology, Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences, and Teacher Education. as well as the Rizzo Career Center. The Forbes Idea Lab fosters student creativity and ingenuity with space for brainstorming and workshopping projects, proposals, or presentations. Designed with sustainability and functionality in mind, the Fernandez Center received LEED Gold certification. A living wall improves air quality and reduces noise, and a 2,100-square-foot roof garden helps protect local waterways by capturing and filtering 100% of the rainwater that falls on the site for irrigation.

The Rizzo Career Center

Housed within the Fernandez Center, the Rizzo Career Center supports students in all phases of their career development. Loyola's model of discovery, exploration, preparation, and pursuit connects students to opportunities that are both personally and professionally fulfilling. Through one-on-one résumé and interview coaching, workshops, career fairs, and Loyola's incredible alumni network made up of more than 70,000 Greyhounds, the Career Center will help you present your best self to the world. It's why 98% of Loyola graduates are employed, in graduate school, or participating in full-time service within six months of graduation—and why our alumni earn mid-career salaries that are 30% higher than those of graduates of other universities.

The Quad

The center of Loyola's campus is the grassy Academic Quadrangle, flanked by academic buildings and the chapel. A popular spot to socialize, study, eat lunch, or hang your hammock, the Quad becomes an outdoor classroom on nice weather days. School-sponsored activities and fairs, like the popular spring festival and concert, Loyolapalooza, take place on the Quad. In the center of the Quad is the iconic statue of St. Ignatius, founder of the Jesuit order and our patron saint. Loyola University Maryland is the first college in the United States to bear his name; there are 27 other Jesuit universities in the Americas, including three named for St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Donnelly Science Center

Donnelly Science Center and the connected Knott Hall house Loyola's biology, chemistry and biochemistry, computer science, engineering, physics, and mathematics and statistics departments. Students studying Natural and Applied Sciences at Loyola become adaptive learners and ethical leaders ready to serve in our diverse and changing world. Recent renovations to the building provide new high-tech lab facilities where students participate in hands-on research, working side-by-side with faculty experts in the field. Through the Hauber Summer Research Fellowship and other opportunities, students have the opportunity to design and conduct funded research in their area of interest. Students can even present their research at a special event showcasing undergraduate research each spring.

Alumni Memorial Chapel

Built to honor members of the Loyola community who died in World War II, Alumni Memorial Chapel is at the physical and spiritual heart of campus. It features Gothic architectural influences with large stained-glass windows; a statue of Our Lady of Evergreen, Queen of Peace, sits in the front façade. All faith denominations are welcome to worship here. A popular spot for alumni weddings, the chapel hosts celebrations and events for the Loyola community throughout the year—including the commissioning of Loyola’s ROTC Battalion in May. Every December, faculty, students, administrators, and alumni pack the candlelit chapel for Lessons and Carols, Loyola's annual Advent service featuring Christmas Carols and scripture readings.

Sellinger School of Business

The Sellinger School of Business and Management offers programs in accounting, economics, finance, marketing, international business and management, information systems and operations management, law and social responsibility, data science, and sustainability management. Recognized as a top 3% business school for salary potential by Payscale.com and a top business school by the Princeton Review, the Sellinger School is AACSB-accredited, a distinction earned by fewer than 5% of business schools worldwide. Students learn in smart classrooms, lounges, computer labs, our brand-new data visualization lab, and the Student Experiential Learning Lab, where they manage a real portfolio of university endowment funds and partner with faculty on market research and to make value-based decisions.

DeChiaro College Center

As home to the visual and performing arts and communication departments, DeChiaro provides several artistic resources to campus. Loyola's music department is located on the ground floor, with private practice rooms, voice and piano lesson rooms, and instrument storage. Studio Arts and Photography are located on the upper floors, with a darkroom and studio space for students. The Julio Art Gallery features rotating exhibits and regular talks by guest artists. McManus Theatre hosts several student productions each semester, including the a cappella showcase, Chordbusters, perhaps Loyola's hottest ticket! Our on-campus Starbucks provides fuel for late-night study sessions and a place for students to hang out or study between classes.

Reitz Arena

Reitz Arena is home to Greyhounds basketball and volleyball. It also serves as the location for large-scale community events including concerts and comedians, lectures, class reunions, and Loyola's annual Relay for Life, which raises tens of thousands of dollars for cancer research each year. Loyola is a member of the Patriot League—which has ranked second among Division I NCAA conferences in student-athlete graduation rates for nearly two decades. In Reitz, you're also likely to find Loyola Superfans, a student organization dedicated to the promotion and publicity of the University's athletics program and the support of student-athletes. They're also known for giving away great Loyola apparel and food—for free!*

Andrew White Student Center

The Andrew White Student Center is a great place to hang with friends, grab a bite to eat at one of several dining options or a coffee at Starbucks, or study in one of the huddle rooms. It's also home to McGuire Hall, which hosts special events—from Welcome Weekend’s Casino Night to panels and lectures with thought leaders and public figures. The Office of Student Engagement on the fourth floor oversees 200+ student-run clubs and organizations. Greyhounds are encouraged to explore and discover their passions. From Late Night at Loyola to Sophomore Mystery Bus to Senior countdown events, you’ll participate in decades-old Loyola traditions... or even start new ones.

Center for Intercultural Engagement

Located on the third floor of the Andrew White Student Center, the Center for Intercultural Engagement is home to ALANA Services, which stands for African, Latinx, Asian, and Native American student services. Through intentional programming and a broad range of services, ALANA seeks to foster the academic, personal, and spiritual development of students and educate members of Loyola's campus community on issues of diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness. Also housed in this space is the Pride Resource Room, providing a physical space for all students, including anyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ and their allies to celebrate and honor the culture, history, lives, and accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community.

Diane Geppi-Aikens Field

Named for the late legendary women's lacrosse coach who helped Loyola lacrosse rise to national prominence, Diane Geppi-Aikens Field is conveniently located in the center of campus between the Humanities Center and Andrew White Student Center. Here you'll find students practicing their penalty kicks, competing for intramural glory, or playing Spikeball with their roommates on this turf field that's open to all students in addition to a practice space for Loyola's club and intramural sports teams. On the boardwalk overlooking Geppi-Aikens Field—or DGA, as it's commonly called—is Loyola's bookstore for all your textbook and apparel needs and StampIt!, the University's mail center and post office.

First-Year Student Residence Halls

When it comes to residence life, our goal is to provide students with a home—a place where you feel comfortable, where you'll forge bonds that will last a lifetime. First-year students choose to live in traditional-style residence halls in Thea Bowman Hall, Butler Hall, Hammerman House, and Hopkins Court. With communal kitchens and laundry facilities located in every building, lounges and study spaces on every floor, and resident assistants to help foster community, it's no surprise the Princeton Review has ranked Loyola's housing in the top 20 in the country for more than a decade... or that students commonly refer to Loyola as their home away from home.

Student Suites and Apartments

After your first year, housing on Loyola’s campus consists of suites and apartments, with full kitchens, living and dining areas, and two, three, or four bedrooms. You’ll have access to laundry facilities and common spaces that include beach volleyball pits and barbeque areas. These apartments and suites provide the perfect transition between college life and life after graduation. You’re still in the middle of everything happening on campus—surrounded by friends and classmates—but you’re also able to make your apartment truly your own. With more than 80% of our students living on campus through senior year, our community remains active and vibrant from orientation to graduation.

Loyola/Notre Dame Library

With ample seating and workstations, group meeting rooms, computers and printers, and a cybercafé, the Loyola/Notre Dame Library is a favorite place for students to study, write, research, and work (and even take a powernap). We share our library with neighboring Notre Dame of Maryland University. In addition to the hundreds of thousands of volumes in the library, students have access to a consortium with local colleges for shared resources and an online database collection. The library offers a digital media lab and an innovation station featuring a 3D printer. During the academic year, librarians are available through online chat, email, and text to answer questions and assist with research.

Fitness and Aquatic Center

At Loyola, we encourage the care and development of the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. Just a short walk or shuttle ride up North Charles Street, our state-of-the-art Fitness & Aquatic Center, better known as the FAC, is bustling with activity. It features a 30-foot rock climbing wall; an eight-lane swimming pool; a 6,000-square-foot fitness center with treadmills, bikes, and free weights, an indoor track, and a two-court gymnasium. The FAC offers group exercise classes and features our Outdoor Adventure Experience program, which provides students a chance to get off campus for hiking, camping, canoeing trips, and more, throughout the academic year.

Ridley Athletic Complex

Ridley Athletic Complex is Loyola's premier athletic facility. Home to both the Greyhounds men's and women's championship soccer and lacrosse teams, Ridley features a 6,000-seat grandstand, multiple playing fields, training facilities, locker rooms, athletics staff offices, concession areas, and event space. The complex also includes the McClure Tennis Center, with eight tennis courts. Students receive free tickets to all games, and shuttles are available to take them from campus to the complex on East Cold Spring Lane. A tailgating area welcomes students, alumni, and fans to pack up the trunk and show off their green and grey before cheering on our teams at home lacrosse and soccer games.
