Glucksman Library

Welcome to the Glucksman Library, the most digitally advanced library in Ireland!! The Glucksman Library is one of the most popular and heavily used places on campus. It offers seating for 2,200 people, study areas for silent and group work, over 150 PCs for student use as well as group study, meeting and training rooms. It features the Automated Reserve Collection (ARC), the first of its kind in Europe. This facility reduces the space traditionally occupied by shelves, making more room for students. The cafe in the library is one of the best spots to grab a cup of coffee and a friendly smile on your study breaks.

At UL we take pride in our Student Supports - because they're all here to help you have the best university experience possible. In addition to all the services you'll find in and around the Student Life courtyard, the Student Support Hub in the main building of the University is home to Academic Registry, UL Global, our award-winning cooperative education & Careers, Undergraduate admissions, Fees and Disability Services. We also have various Learning Centres located around the campus, with specialised support for Writing, Maths, ICT, & Science. Wellbeing services including Student Counseling and Health Services are also based in the main building.

Living on-campus is one of the best ways to enjoy uni life at UL. the University has 7 purpose built village-style residences on the campus which offer all-inclusive high quality , modern living. there are 2, 4 and 6-bedroomed apartments available as well as multiple houses. some of the villages have spectacular views of the River and all have access to shops and restaurants and bars. being on-campus offers a convenient, safe and affordable option for students , and with all bills included .... you only have to worry about getting to class!!

Being a student is hungry (and thirsty) work. On campus at University of Limerick, we have a great range of restaurants, cafés and bars offering high quality home cooked food at budget conscious prices. A foodie tour of UL can involve anything from a takeaway roll from the supermarket deli all the way up to a fine dining experience in the East Room at Plassey House, with any number of tasty options in-between, including our weekly Farmer’s Market every Tuesday.

Whatever your sporting ambitions or skill set, you'll find something to suit your lifestyle at UL. We take our title of Ireland's Sporting Campus seriously, particularly with UL being home to some of the first or only facilities of their kind in Ireland. Along with the pools, pitches, courts and climbing wall, we also have the UL Boathouse, situated on the riverbank and home to Ireland’s only Indoor Rowing Tank. In nearby Killaloe you'll find the UL Sport Outdoor Adventure Centre, where you can experience a host of on land and water-based activities including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, rock climbing and more.

Living Bridge

Welcome to the Living Bridge- the longest pedestrian bridge in Ireland... it is the link between county Clare and County Limerick - yes that's right the campus spans 2 counties in Ireland. From here you can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the river. the Bridge actually moves when you walk on it because it is built on natural stone beneath the river bed. if you listen closely you can get a sense of the nature that will surround you on your walk across the bridge. On the north side of the bridge is the Irish world academy and to welcome you on the south side is the Common room.

Science and Engineering

Now we find ourseleves in Science and Engineering zone. The University leads the way in innovation in science and engineering programmes and has a long history of industry collaboration for teaching , research and cooperative education which is paid work placement. . We are home to the famous Bernal Institute, which consists of four research areas – a dream for budding scientists and engineers. UL students have gone on to win many awards, including the national leg of the James Dyson Award. Our Science and Engineering Faculty offers a multitude of high-tech facilities, including Ireland’s only Academic flight simulator, the ‘ATP’ which is a unique robotic machine in Ireland, and the Titan Themis Microscope - one of the world’s most advanced instruments.

Kemmy Business School

The Kemmy Business School is one of the largest business schools in Ireland and has been awarded Triple Crown accreditation, placing it in the top 1% of international business schools in the world. The Kemmy Business School, or KBS, offers a wide range of business and management education programmes. In addition to modern lecture theatres and study spaces, the building also has a Wall Street style trading floor, the first of its kind in Ireland. The school welcomes Ireland's top business leaders and entrepreneurs regularly for guest lectures and events, which are held in its 350-seater main lecture theatre.

Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at University of Limerick offers a wide range of subjects at undergraduate, postgraduate and research level, and is home to seven academic departments and the University of Limerick Language Centre. One of the largest programmes on offer in this faculty is the Bachelor of Arts. You can choose from 16 subjects in year 1 with 133 possible combinations. Journalism and Media students have the opportunity to use our recording studios, newsroom and editing suites, which are all equipped to the highest standards.

Health Sciences

If you’re interested in studying in the medical and allied health professions, you’ll find some of the most progressive programmes in these fields here at UL. Our School of Medicine boats a 3D virtual anatomy table which is unique in Ireland. They also use a problem based learning style that offers a more practical, hands-on medical education to help you develop early clinical skills. UL Nursing and Midwifery students have access to world class facilities, including a midwifery suite. Our labs simulate hospital wards and healthcare spaces, allowing you to get a sense of what it's like to work in the field. Similarly, we are known for our extensive sport and fitness facilities available to students studying in areas like health and fitness, sport science and physiotherapy.

School of Law

The school of law at UL ranks among the top law schools in the world, and has been awarded top law school in the country by the Irish Law awards. As well as being market and employment focussed the school enjoys top class facilities , the most well known being the moot court room, it is housed in the Glucksman library and gives students the opportunity to examine and cross examine witnesses , practice closing statements in front of a judge and really get a sense of what it's like to be in a court room.

Irish World Academy of Music and Dance

As you walk across the Living Bridge and approach the north campus, the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance welcomes you. It is the centre of academic and performance excellence on campus. The building is purpose built for performance training and includes two theatres, Theatre 1 is a 230 seater performance space and theatre 2 is specifically designed for chant and acoustic performance. The Kinney Mosaic is one of the most eye-catching displays we have on campus, showcasing the legends of the Rover Shannon. Each theatre has a steinway piano and have sprung dancefloors and light and sound rigs. the building has recording studios, individual practice rooms and dance studios, it has a strong international presence with students from over 40 countries studying here. many of the programmes are the first of their kind in Ireland and indeed the world.

Education

We are now here in the micro-teaching classroom, where our education students would get first hands experience of the teaching world. UL is one of the largest providers of teaching graduates in the country, and many of our teaching degrees are unique in Ireland. The School of Education is ranked in the top 100 worldwide, according to the QS rankings. You can train to teach in areas such as languages, science, physical education, mathematics and technology. Our teaching degrees involve hands-on, practical learning through our placement programmes in schools nationally.

Plassey House

Welcome to the beautiful Plassey House, built in the 1770's, this is where our University was born. many historical features have been maintained and it is home to some of the University's art collections. it is also now home to the President’s office. The grounds surrounding Plassey House include the expansive Plassey Green, one of my favorite places to hang out with friends on a nice day, or even to catch a quick breather from studying. one of the trees on the lawn actually was grown from a fossil!! Near the green is a walk down to our famous pontoon, jutting out into the River Shannon. Definitely the best spot on campus to catch the sunset. This walkway also takes you into Limerick city centre, while taking in gorgeous views along the river.

UL's Campus is in a suburb of Limerick, Ireland's third-largest city and first ever City of Culture. With regular public transport from UL to the city centre, it's easy to make the most of the many shopping and dining options, check out the tourist hotspots, experience an exciting sports event or enjoy a performance. Limerick is also a Gateway city to the Wild Atlantic Way, linking you to some of the most beautiful beaches and stunning scenery Ireland has to offer. You'll never be short of new adventures to explore.
