Welcome to Landmark College, located in beautiful southern Vermont. Founded in 1985, Landmark College is exclusively for students who learn differently, including students with dyslexia or another learning disability, as well as students with ADHD, autism, or executive function challenges. Rather than promoting a deficit management model of education, Landmark College focuses on asset development. We invite you to explore our wonderful college and discover your own Learning Ability and the superpowers that come with it. This tour will give you a sense of the academic spaces and programs, as well as the excellent social and living environment we provide. Before we get started, let me explain the many ways you can explore our beautiful space. You can click on the forward facing arrow to start walking around. Staircase

The staircase is a good place to pause so you can take in the view. From this vantage point you can see 7 different mountain ranges! It's also a good place to tell you how the campus is organized. Upper campus is where you will find our residence halls, the main dining hall, the Centers for Diversity and Inclusion, and the Social Pragmatics department, among other things. Academic buildings are on the lower level, but there are plenty of social spaces, too, including the huge quad encircled by a colonnade that keeps you dry walking class to class. As you might imagine, students have come up with creative ways of going from upper to lower campus, especially in the wintertime!

MacFarlane

This is the atrium of the Nicole Goodner MacFarlane Science, Technology, and Innovation Center. It's home for many of our STEM and research-related programs and activities. Many students like to hang out or study here during all hours of the day. There's always interesting art in the hallways, and a social area upstairs with a great view of the quad. The Computer Science department occupies the ground floor, the CS Discovery and Neurocognitive labs are on the lower level, while Natural Science classrooms and labs are on the second floor. Just outside MacFarlane, you'll also find a greenhouse used by many science classes and the College's gardening club.

MacFarlane—LCIRT

MacFarlane is the headquarters for the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training, which researches best practices for educating students with learning differences, and leverages that information not only for our faculty, staff, and students, but for educators from around the globe. LCIRT offers webinars and online professional development courses to education professionals year-round. Staff and faculty members from other colleges and universities, as well as public and private high schools, travel here for Professional Visit Days and the annual Summer Institute, to continuously improve how they serve students with LDs. This is also one of the most popular environments for faculty and students to work together on research projects.

Library

You might expect the library to be a little different at a college for students who learn differently, and you'd be right. One thing that sets ours apart is that is houses one of the most extensive collections of resources on learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism. Downstairs, there's a computer lab with dozens of workstations, equipped with educational technology that help students process information, and all of our librarians are well-versed in these tools. When you need a calm space to really focus, a great study area for you and your friends, or information to help you complete your assignments, the library is the place to go.

Lewis Academic Building

This is the Drake Center for Academic Support, located on the ground level of the Lewis Academic Building. While every student meets weekly with a dedicated advisor, the Drake Center provides what we call "scaffolding." You won't find a better resourced college in the country. Our advisors are also trained as executive function coaches and help keep you on track. Lewis also houses the 140 seat O'Brien Auditorium, which is mainly used for public events or large community gatherings. Most classrooms are much smaller, and classes typically have six to twelve students. Career Connections is on the second floor. We are serious about experiential learning here, and internships are key to this process. The staff helps students find opportunities on and off-campus and teaches them skills they need to be better prepared for the workplace. Downstairs, you will find our maker space called the IDEA Lab and a fully equipped television studio.

Fine Arts Building

Directly across the quad from Lewis is the FAB, or Fine Arts Building. Students have a wide range of arts to choose from, including ceramics, painting, drawing, printing, filmmaking, video production, and photography. The gallery features art shows from guest artists and alumni, plus current students, every semester. FAB houses Performing Arts activities, too. Theater classes and productions take place here in the Greenhoe Theater, the dance studio, and in a smaller, black box theater below. There are also well-equipped classrooms for music, digital music, and chorus.

Strauch Center

Every campus needs spaces for students to unwind between or after classes. The Strauch Family Student Center has a lot of little nooks to do just that. Join friends at the Fireside Cafe for a burger and fries or a Starbucks Coffee. Play pool, ping-pong, and even some vintage video games in the Game Room downstairs. That is also the site of some epic gaming sessions and tournaments. The college's radio station, WLMC, is also in the basement, but thanks to the internet you can tune in from anywhere. The Strauch Center also houses the College's bookstore, where you can get your textbooks and other school supplies, as well as your Shark gear and snacks. And upstairs is where health and counseling services are located.

Drake Field

On the lowest level of campus you will find the Charles Drake Athletic Field. Having this awesome new turf field has opened up the quad for classic student activities like study circles, throwing a Frisbee around, or just relaxing with friends. The field is regulation NCAA-sized and lined for both soccer and lacrosse. The infill material is made from coconut husks: making it natural, environmentally friendly, and more usable in the spring and winter. Amenities include scoreboard, bleachers, and a field house with home and visitor locker rooms, restrooms and concession area.

Part of the College's philosophy is that students with learning differences do better academically when they are physically active. The Click Family Athletic Center offers a multitude of options, with a gym, climbing wall, and fitness room. We have team sports for men and women, including basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer; while more individual-minded athletes can take up activities like cross-country running. Our wellness mascot is Finn the Shark. That may seem like an odd choice for a College in a landlocked state. But Finn embodies the spirit of our campus: fierce, determined, and always moving forward.

Woodlands

How did we get all the way out in the woods? This is actually still College property, and an important extension of campus life. The Natural Science department incorporates our beautiful habitat into many of their classroom assignments. The hiking trails double as a Frisbee golf course. There's a ropes course and zipline tucked away back here, too. In the winter, you can check out a pair snowshoes or cross-country skis from the Outdoor program and explore on your own or with a group of friends. The Outdoor program provides year-round opportunities here and off campus. There's hiking, kayaking, trips to area ski resorts, and even spelunking.

Dining Hall

Don't worry if all this walking has made you hungry, we've made it to Alumni Dining Hall. Whatever your appetite, our Chef and staff are incredibly accommodating. Vegetarian, gluten-free, and kosher options are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days a week. Menus always feature favorite comfort foods, like pizza and tater tots®, as well as extensive options from other cultures. The staff practices sustainability with regard to food purchasing, water use, and paper goods. The Dining Hall has always been a good place to start meeting new people. It's also the best place to find out what's going on around campus.

Residence Hall—Frost Hall

We're standing in Frost Hall, one of the five main residence halls on campus. Some of the spaces are cozy, but each of them contains common areas that let students gather together for games or to watch movies on the big screen TV. While the halls look very similar from the outside, each one serves a specific student life or academic function. Frost is headquarters for our Centers for Diversity and Inclusion, for example, and Stone has a large common area for holding coffee house-style gatherings. Over in Davis, you'll find the Social Pragmatics office, which is where you can spend time with one of our many trained therapy dogs.

Residence Hall—Bridges

Upper-level students have the option of living in Bridges or Chumley. These residences offer suite-style apartment living with single and double occupancy rooms. The halls offer spacious common areas, plus kitchen and laundry facilities. There's a feel of living off campus in these spaces, and they're great for inviting a group of friends over.

Southern Vermont

Landmark College's southern Vermont location offers the quintessential New England experience while still having easy access to more cosmopolitan areas. You can literally walk to the center of Putney for off-campus dining, plus theater and music venues that attract world-class talent. We're also close enough to Boston, New York and Montreal that you can go and come back in the same day. No car? No worries! The College organizes trips to these cities and others on a regular basis. There is also free shuttle service every week to downtown Brattleboro and Keene, among other areas.
