Welcome to Knox College! A Knox education isn't something you sit and watch -- it's something you go out and do, so let's get into all our campus has to offer. There are students at Knox from nearly every state and 49 countries and we've been recognized as one of the 40 Colleges That Change Lives. The Knox community is curious, kind, passionate, driven, and adventurous and we're excited to have you along for the journey. The Office of Admission and The Power of Experience

Knox College's renovation of historic Alumni Hall, including the Petrovich Atrium, funded by Duke '74 & Nancy Petrovich, is being recognized for highly efficient use of resources in its design, construction, and operation. Alumni Hall is the only LEED Gold certified building in Galesburg.

You'll spend a lot of time in Alumni Hall. It's where students get real-world experience beyond the classroom through internships, research, study abroad, and community service. In fact, just by being a Knox student, you'll receive a $2,000 Power of Experience grant to spend on these opportunities. Learning at Knox goes way beyond the classroom and we're so excited to get you there. Our Office of Admission is located here as well and we like to think Alumni Hall is where every student will begin and end their on-campus Knox experience - it's the gateway to Knox and the rest of the world.

Knox History

"At Knox, you're surrounded by history. Founded in 1837, Knox has been rooted in social justice since the very beginning. Knox was founded by abolitionists, so we're big fans of our sixteenth President. In fact, in 1858, our very own Old Main building was the site of the fifth historic Lincoln-Douglas debate. Knox was one of the first colleges to admit women and students of color, so living and learning in a diverse community alongside people whose ideas might be quite different from your own, has always been part of a Knox education."

Academics

"We're at George Davis Hall, which is a great place to talk about our academic calendar. We have three 10-week terms. These can be intense because you're covering an entire semester of work in just 10 weeks, but you'll only be taking three classes at a time, which gives you the space to dive fully into those subjects. Our classes are small - with 14 students on average, you and your professors get to know each other personally. You will learn collaboratively alongside your professors and you'll find their support extends way past the classroom walls."

Intercultural Life

"Whatever your race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, disability status or gender, you're welcome at Knox, but especially at the House of Peace and Equity, also known as the HOPE Center. The Offices of Intercultural Life and Spiritual Life are housed in the center, which celebrates the diversity within our community. The center is open for worship, prayer, meditation, and reflection. We also use the center as a study space, for club meetings, programs, and socializing. Dedicating such a beautiful, large space to these efforts reinforces that equity and justice have deep roots in our mission and history."

Fine Arts

"Every student here takes at least one class in the arts; whether it's music, creative writing, dance, art, or theatre. That's the beauty of a Knox education - you explore across disciplines, blaze new trails, and make new connections. The *Whitcomb* Art Center provides a home for our studio art and art history programs. We have dedicated studios for painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, metalworking and woodworking, and multimedia art -- plus individual studios for seniors working on capstone creative projects. The building's design - energy-efficient and full of natural light – is consistent with the college's ongoing commitment to sustainability."

Theatre, Music, and Dance

"The Ford Center for the Fine Arts may be our most creative space on campus. It's home to our performing arts - theatre, dance, and music, and features *Harbach* Theatre, a 600-seat theatre with a 360-degree rotating stage, *Kresge* Recital Hall, a black box theatre, and a dance studio. These spaces allow us to fully immerse ourselves through our creative outlets. You don't need to major in any of these subjects to be engaged with them - here at Knox, there are ways to be involved in everything, whether it's for a class or just for fun."

Student Wellness

The Andrew Fitness Center is our 13,000-square-foot athletic training facility, open to all. Includes a cardio exercise area, free weight training area, fitness studio, and top-of-the-line equipment.

"The attention and support you receive at Knox does not stop when you leave the classroom. Our 13,000-square-foot fitness center features a cardio exercise area, a free weight training area, a fitness studio, and is free to all students. We believe physical, as well as mental health is vital to life at Knox. We are committed to providing exceptional care for our students through our Health and Counseling service centers. Free for student use, these centers provide every day support as well as crisis and emergency services. Students can visit health services anytime they need and counseling services are confidential."

Athletics

"We're at the *Knosher* Bowl now, where our football team plays annually in the Bronze Turkey Game and Lincoln Bowl. Athletics are an important part of the Knox experience - 50% of our students participate in varsity, club, or intramural sports. Home to 16 NCAA Division III teams, everyone on campus is welcome at the fitness center. It's connected to Memorial Gymnasium, where we cheer on the basketball and volleyball teams, and Fleming Fieldhouse, with our indoor track, batting cages, and golf performance center. Our athletic spaces are loud, crowded, and proud, and we wouldn't want it any other way."

Knox Traditions

"Welcome to the South Lawn. On the first day of fall term, it's the site of *Pumphandle* when students, professors, and staff join a line to shake everyone's hand and say hello. It's also where we celebrate one of our favorite traditions, Flunk Day, a secret day each spring when classes are canceled for a surprise all-day carnival and adventure. Some of our other favorite traditions include a midnight breakfast during finals week, and *I-Fair*, a cultural showcase of the food, flags, dress, and talents of our international students. Our traditions are a part of our unique culture and spirit here at Knox and they connect us all."

First Year Residential Experience

"Knox is a residential college -- more than 90% of us live on campus all four years. That's because living together with a bunch of people with different backgrounds, different interests, and different ways of communicating is a big part of our education. In many of our dorms, first-years share a suite with about a dozen other students - a dozen new friends as soon as you get here. After your first year, you'll stay in town houses, suit-style residence halls, Greek Houses, and our unique cultural and theme houses, like International House, Cooking House, and Super Smash Bros House."

STEM at Knox

If you're interested in a career in science or you just want to know how the world works, the *Umbeck* Science and Math Center is an excellent place to start. Knox is in the top 4% of liberal arts colleges producing PHD candidates. One of the great things about Knox is that students do meaningful scientific research, from exploring sleep in the dream lab to synthesizing novel new compounds. As a solely undergraduate institution, you will uniquely collaborate with your professors - many students even get their research published! Knox is home to an observatory, the Maker Space, a science library, and even a whale skeleton.

Sustainability at Knox

"Sustainability is an important part of the Knox culture. Here at the Knox Farm, we grow fruits and veggies served in our dining halls and donated to local food banks. Tiny but mighty, the farm covers an acre of gardens and greenhouses. We produce more than a ton of food each season and It's nourished with campus-generated compost and grown organically without pesticides or artificial fertilizers. And, we can't forget about our bike share program and repair shop, and our commitment to waste reduction through recycling programs."

"A Knox education is well-rounded and we are committed to providing students with all they need to succeed. These resources include free tutoring, dedicated professors and librarians to assist in research, and access to over 350,000 volumes, including our Special Collections and Archives in *Seymour* Library. Our Career Center also works with students even after they graduate in applying for jobs, finding internships, and considering advanced degrees."

"We've got a variety of meal options on campus. Between our campus cafeteria, a short-order restaurant, a convenience store, the grab-n-go stations, and the coffee bar, you're sure to satisfy your cravings. With our very own Knox Farm providing fruits and veggies for our meals, there are plenty of healthy and homemade dishes to go around - but we won't judge you if you'd rather pick up late night snacks from the *C-Store* for studying. We've got a variety of meal plans as well, so you can decide what best fits your habits and lifestyle."

"We're in Taylor Lounge now - but students do way more than lounging here! This is just one of the many areas on campus students meet up to participate in over 100 clubs and organizations. Athletes, gamers, outdoor enthusiasts, readers, writers, musicians, dancers, actors, activists, future politicians - you name it, we've got a club for you. Students stay connected, too. Our cultural clubs and organizations bring the whole world to us, and you can step off campus to engage in our community service oriented clubs. If you don't find what you're looking for, you can start your own club. That's how the outdoor adventure club got started. Much of Knox is student-run, so your talents as a leader, organizer and doer will find a place here!"

Experiential Learning and Field Research

"We love Illinois, but we want you to see the world, too. About half of Knox students study abroad. The global studies center offers more than 100 programs in 49 countries around the world. 87% of students complete independent study, research, or creative projects. Some take place on campus like in the Abolition Lab, or near campus at Green Oaks, the 700-acre biological field station of lakes and streams, restored tallgrass prairie, and old-growth trees. Green Oaks hosts all kinds of student experiences: research projects, the immersive Green Oaks Term and adventures in hiking, fishing, camping, or canoeing. You never know where your Knox education may lead you."

Galesburg, Illinois

"While here, you won't just be a part of the Knox community, but the *Galesburg* community as well. It's a quintessential Midwestern town with great coffee shops, delicious food from around the world, and Yelp's number 1 ranked pizza in Illinois. Our campus jazz combo plays at the community art center every week and the Orpheum Theatre hosts shows and events open to the public. Our students make a difference here, too, as they contribute thousands of hours of community service. Step off campus, and you're a few minute walk to downtown. Galesburg is home for us, and we know you'll feel that too."
