Welcome to Hocking College! We help our students apply their passion through a hands-on learning environment that enables them to thrive. Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Hocking College offers more than 50 associate degree programs and extensive transfer options. Our three convenient locations include the main campus in Nelsonville, Ohio; the Logan Campus in Hocking County; and the Perry Campus in New Lexington. Today, we will tour our main campus. Before we get started, let me explain the many ways in which you can explore our beautiful campus. Click on the front facing arrow to begin walking around our campus. We begin our tour at the gateway to Hocking College campus, True North Plaza. You'll find as we progress through the tour, that most of our campus is a hands-on learning laboratory. As an example, True North Plaza was conceived and built by our Landscape Management students. At the plaza, students like to study, socialize and just enjoy the park-like campus atmosphere. The plaza sits between Light and Oakley Hall, and on a beautiful day, it's the busiest place on campus.

Light Hall is the main administrative building for Hocking College. At the Student Services Concourse on the first floor, students can get help with their admissions application, registering for classes, financial aid and paying for fees all in one location. Many larger colleges are filled with auditorium-sized classrooms. At Hocking College, we pride ourselves on personalized, intimate classroom settings. You'll find our only auditorium classroom on campus located on the first floor of Light Hall.

On the second floor is the Light Dining Hall. Frequented by both our residential and commuter students, the Dining Hall offers many different types of food, including options for students with specific dietary needs. Our residential students utilize meal plans, which can also be used at our "C-store" or Convenience Store located adjacent to the Dining Hall. The Dining Hall is a hub of student life at Hocking, hosting student organization events, a concert series produced by our Music students, and decorated with murals by our Art students.

The Visual Arts Center or VAC is the home of the Art, Design and Marketing program. Featuring 10,000 square feet dedicated exclusively to the arts, the VAC has a glassblowing facility, ceramic and painting studio and a state-of-the-art Mac lab for photography and Interactive Multimedia students. The Art program also runs the Hocking College Art Gallery on Nelsonville Square, a working gallery that features ongoing exhibitions throughout the year ranging from student exhibitions to international artists. The Gallery is a focal point of Nelsonville Historic Art District's Final Friday, where during the last Friday of the month the shops and galleries host events and entertainment late into the evening.

As we enter the Natural Resources Building, you will get the feeling that we've entered the realm of the great outdoors. Hocking College is the number one producer of all natural resources associate degree graduates in the country. Although Natural Resources programs are housed in this building, our entire 2,300 acre campus serves as an interactive classroom, with 80 miles of trails and Wayne National Forest on either side. College-owned Lake Snowden, a fully-functioning 675-acre education and recreation park, houses the fish hatchery for our Fish Management program. The School of Natural Resources has a reputation for producing graduates ready to protect our natural places, creatures and the people who enjoy them.

More than 50 horses call Hocking College campus home, cared for by the many students enrolled in our three equine associate degree programs. The front barn is used by our Equine Health students for broodmare class and colt training. The main barn behind it houses the horses, with a training arena in the back where our Wilderness Horsemanship students learn to teach riding in a controlled environment. In the Shoeing Bay, Farrier Science students learn about handling different levels of horses in all aspects of shoeing and forging. In the woods beyond the Equine area, our Nature Center houses many exotic and local snakes, reptiles and raptors. Interpretation students use this as a learning laboratory to host outside groups.

Here you will see our two newest residence halls, North and Downhour. As the only two-year college in Ohio to offer college-owned residence halls, Hocking College enables our students to enjoy the full-college experience. Although living on campus is not required, many students take advantage of this educational and fun opportunity. North and Downhour have suite-style living, where double rooms share a bathroom. The Hawk's Nest social lounge on the fifth floor is a great place for socializing after a day of classes, or enjoying one of the many programs provided by the Resident Success Mentors.

Hocking Heights is the third residence hall located on Hocking College campus. As our original on-campus housing facility, Hocking Heights has been the home to students from all over the globe. It is a more intimate setting, and the only residence hall that offers single rooms. Hocking Heights shares a parking lot with our Hocking College Police Department or HCPD. The HCPD is a full service police and campus safety department, and offers round-the-clock protection for our campus. Across the river, accessible by a footbridge, Summit and Sycamore are two privately owned residence halls, managed by the college. They offer another option for students who would like the ease of living close to campus.

Oakley Hall is a general purpose classroom building adjacent to Light Hall. In front of Oakley Hall is an outdoor amphitheater, built by Landscape Management students and used for outdoor classroom space and campus events. Also at this stop is the view of the outside of our Student Center, which is an important part of life on Hocking College campus.

The Hocking College Student Center is the recreation hub of the campus, home of intramural sports, events, dances, clubs, Phi Theta Kappa, computer labs, Smart Start, graduation ceremonies and more. Promoting healthy lifestyles through exercise for all levels, Hocking College offers a fitness room and indoor track. The climbing wall is always active with students in classes and in their free time. The pool rounds out the opportunities for fun, with free swim, SCUBA classes and Kayak roll activities.

Dedicated in 2012, the Unity Gardens was designed and built by the Landscape Management, Construction Management and Heavy Equipment students. Attached to the Student Center, the Unity Gardens' beautiful view overlooks another classroom building, Shaw Hall. On a warm fall evening, students often take advantage of the fire pit located on the patio to gather and socialize. In this area, you will also notice a tee box and "hole" of the disc-golf course that runs throughout the campus. Hailed by disc-golf enthusiasts as an excellent course, it's popular over the summer months.

Davidson Hall is one of the most active buildings on campus. In front of the building, you'll find the Healing Pond, a popular destination for solitude and relaxation. Our well-known Nursing and Allied Health programs find their home in Davidson Hall. The campus Library is located on the first floor. With print and digital resources, the Library offers students an opportunity to study in a quiet location. Finally, Davidson Hall is the location of the Hocking College Bookstore. With a stock of school supplies, books and Hocking College spirit items, the Bookstore is one-stop shopping for students.

In the Public Safety Services building, Hocking College prepares first responders to meet community needs for fire and emergency medical protection. Students learn how to fight fire and get firsthand experience with different types of "patients" in the CPR Lab. Police Science students learn the skills necessary to earn Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification and get important firearms training on the campus-owned shooting range. It's not uncommon to see a defensive driving course in session on your walk to class, or students repelling off our four-story burn tower.

The Hocking College Fire Training Center is a learning laboratory, one of the few training towers in the State of Ohio that utilizes Class A materials, allowing for a more realistic fire training experience. The recently refurbished tower also includes two levels designed for real-life search and rescue scenarios and has enhanced safety features allowing for safe yet realistic training. Hocking also has one of the few flashover simulators in the state, providing a safe environment to learn how to recognize an impending flashover, one of the leading causes of fire ground injuries.

The Hockhocking Adena Bikeway is a 21-mile paved path that runs through Hocking College campus, beginning in Nelsonville and ending in Athens. The Bikeway's low grade makes for an easy, relaxing ride and the scenery's unforgettable. It's located next to the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad, which runs historic trains through the campus in fall and holiday weekends. Frequently, equine students use the railroad bed to walk horses from the barns to graze on front campus pastures. On what other college campus can you see a 21-mile bikepath, a railroad and horses all on your way to class?

Another unique aspect of our campus is Robbins Crossing Historical Village. Providing hands-on experience for our Natural and Historical Interpretation students, Robbins Crossing is a collection of original log cabins built during the mid-1800s. Students and community volunteers dress in period costumes and share historical information to help recreate the past and show tourists the 19th century way of life. Robbins Crossing is the home to many annual events such as the Nelsonville Music Festival and Hocking College Homecoming and hosts school groups and community gatherings.

The McClenaghan School of Hospitality Training offers degrees in Culinary Arts, Baking and Hotel and Restaurant Management. Training in the fine dining Rhapsody Restaurant on Nelsonville Historic Square and in various catering opportunities provides students with excellent practical work opportunities, preparing them for the fast paced world of hospitality management.
