Welcome to Hiram College! I’m Hilary and I’m excited to take you through a tour of our beautiful hilltop campus, located in the heart of Northeast Ohio and just a 45 minute drive to Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown. At Hiram, your academic experience is not just sitting in a lecture, soaking up knowledge. It’s a powerful combination of what you learn inside and outside of the classroom and how ideas introduced in one place help you understand concepts in another. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to learn by doing, to serve, to explore your passions, and to forge your own path. Kennedy Center

The Kennedy Center, our student center, is the hub of Hiram’s active and vibrant campus. Both the main and basement lounges are great places to hang out with friends in between classes or to study in the evenings and on the weekends. The Bistro, located just off of the main lounge, is a popular dining option if you want to grab a fresh sandwich, salad, smoothie, or coffee. Want to get involved in one of our more than 25 student organizations or start a new club that is not already active at Hiram? Then stop by the Office of Campus Involvement, located here. You’ll also find the Campus Bookstore located in the Kennedy Center for all of your school spirit needs.

Koritanksy Hall

Hiram's political science department is housed in Koritansky Hall, a historic church that was moved to campus from Mecca, Ohio. The church was at one time a parish under the guidance of James A. Garfield, the twentieth President of the United States and former leader of Hiram College. Not only does Koritansky Hall serve as one of the many unique classroom spaces on campus, it is also home to our Garfield Institute, which includes the Center for Public Leadership and Center for the Study of the American Presidency. The Garfield Institute helps political and apolitical students across disciplines explore public service on campus and beyond with local and international travel to engage in research and activity.

Martin Commons

Martin Commons is one of the places you can really experience the hustle and bustle of campus. At the end of this beautiful walkway, you’ll find *Gerstacker* (pronounced ger-stack-er with a hard g) Hall, home to our science labs and traditional classroom spaces. In the Gerstacker labs, students are often found working side-by-side professors on innovative research projects. In fact, the academic experience at Hiram is a powerful combination of what you learn in and outside of the classroom and how ideas introduced in one place help you understand concepts in another. After selecting an academic major during their sophomore year, students are able to connect what they learn in the classroom with what is happening in the world through either a paid internship, a study abroad experience, or a guided research project with a faculty member. By completing this hands-on learning requirement, students are prepared to succeed beyond their graduation from Hiram.

Library

Over the years, the Hiram College Library has grown from a collection of books to a centralized resource hub with individual and group study rooms, growing collections in both print and digital format, and computer and wireless access. The library’s recent first-floor renovation continues this evolution by welcoming Hiram’s Tech and Trek program, the Office of Career and Academic Development, and the Clocktower Café. The goal of the new learning and technology collaborative is to bring together members of the College and its community to interact, engage in peer-to-peer tutoring, learn about new apps, and schedule walk-in appointments with professional advisors or career specialists.

Frohring Performing Arts

Frohring Performing Arts Hall and Frohring Music Hall are home to Hiram's Performing Arts program. Through study and performance-based endeavors, the program cultivates future artists and art leaders by deeply engaging students in the expressive fields of the dramatic arts, music, performance management, design, tech, and dance. All students, regardless of major, are encouraged to participate in one of the many opportunities, including theatre performances, ensembles, production, and design. The Performing Arts Hall is home to the Renner Theater, an intimate and adaptable Black Box performance space with a computerized lighting system and flexible seating. The building also includes a green room, a small lecture and performance venue, a costume shop, and a space for the building of scenery. The Music Hall has several studios and practice rooms, as well as a rehearsal and recital hall.

Hinsdale Hall

When standing in the center of the Varlotta Green, you’re surrounded by several of our academic buildings. You can even see some of the tents that have been set up across campus. When the weather is nice, many faculty will host class outside under them instead of in a traditional classroom. Hinsdale Hall houses the Scarborough School of Business and Communication, one of Hiram’s five academic schools. The other schools include the School of Arts, Humanities, and Culture; School of Education, Civic Leadership and Social Change; School of Science and Technology; and School of Health and Medical Humanities. Serving as one of the main academic buildings on campus, Hinsdale Hall has many classroom spaces and faculty offices. On the third floor, you’ll also find the Office of the President and Dean of Academic Affairs.

Century Homes

Sometimes it’s hard to know where Hiram College ends and the Village of Hiram begins. That’s because many of the historical homes that line campus house academic departments, complete with intimate classrooms, faculty offices, and more. We’re standing in front of Bonney Castle, home to our English Department. The neighboring homes include the Garfield Robbins Zimmerman House, former home of U.S. President James A. Garfield, and the Stephen and Jacquelyn Love Writing House, home to the College’s writing programs and Lindsay-Crane Center for Writing and Literature.

Campus Housing on the Hill

"You will feel right at home in one of Hiram’s residence halls, with quick access to everything campus has to offer. Campus housing on the Hill offers a variety of living options for students including first-year only floors, co-ed floors, male or female only floors, and all-gender housing options. All of the rooms in Miller Hall and Whitcomb Hall are double rooms with recently renovated community bathrooms, kitchenettes, and lounges. Bowler Hall is primarily for upper-class students. Henry Honors Hall is the residence hall that is home to Eclectic Scholars Honors Program, which offers students the opportunity to challenge themselves with enriched curriculum and to prepare for the next level, whether that is medical school, law school, business school, or another graduate opportunity. The designated living space in Henry Hall brings together a network of peers who are like-minded and who respect one another, the concept of community, and the importance of academic and intellectual life.

East Hall

East Hall is one of our specialty housing options for upper-class students on Hiram's campus and features six and eight person apartment style suites. Each suite offers single and double rooms and a central living area. East Hall is also home to the Burton D. Morgan Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship. Established through a grant from The Burton D. Morgan Foundation, the Center integrates the concepts of entrepreneurship through curricular and extra-curricular activities that help students develop skills such as critical thinking, curiosity, ethical awareness, ability to write and speak clearly, to draw and synthesize knowledge from diverse sources and apply to diverse uses, and insight into the human experience. In addition to the residential space, the Center has a designated lecture hall, an incubator classroom, offices, and meeting spaces.

Dining Hall

The Hiram College Dining hall is the primary place to grab a bite to eat on campus. It’s all-you-care-to-eat style, with a variety of options including the grill, a full salad bar, pizza, pasta, homestyle, and international food stations, and a dessert table. Options are available to meet various dietary restrictions including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten sensitive. Personalized options are available for those with specific allergens. The dining hall uses fresh produce for all meals and sources as many local products as possible. In an effort to reduce waste, Hiram’s student-run Environmental Action Crew collects and converts food scraps from campus dining areas into compost. In total the process takes three months, but once completed, the compost is used on the campus grounds, in college-managed gardens, and at the Field Station.

Townhouses

The townhouses style living gives upper class students the real feel of independence as they walk through their own front door. These two-story houses have an open floor plan on the first floor with a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and one bedroom. The second floor consists of three bedrooms and one bathroom. Each townhouse has a washer and dryer, air conditioning, internet access, and four private parking spaces.

Gelbke Fine Arts Center

A re-purposed factory with 26,000 square feet of studio, classroom, lab, and gallery space, the Gelbke with a hard g) Fine Arts Center gives students, community members, staff, and faculty a place to exhibit their work. As part of the center, a 1,200 square foot gallery is designed for the display of all types of art work, from two dimensional paintings, drawings, and prints, to multi-media projections and installations. The gallery regularly hosts exhibitions by regional, national, and international artists. There is also a 70 seat auditorium equipped with Apple projection and digital sharing technology that is often used for presentations and films, as well as the Annual Student Film Festival. Art & Design majors also receive a spacious individual studio.

Coleman Sports Complex

As a Divison III school, nearly half of all of our students participate in one of our competitive sports. The athletic facilities at the Les and Kathy Coleman Sports, Recreation, and Fitness Center are for every student, not just our varsity athletes. Among the facilities inside are two fieldhouses, an indoor track, a fitness center, an aerobics studio, racquetball courts, a gymnasium which is home to our basketball, volleyball, Cheer and STUNT, and wrestling teams, and a pool, which is home to our swimming and diving team. The Coleman Center overlooks the Charles A. Henry Field, where we share spirit-filled days cheering on our football, lacrosse, and soccer teams. Beyond Henry Field is Fishel Field and Herdon Field, home to our baseball and softball teams, as well as tennis courts for recreational use.

James H. Barrow Biological Field Station

Located less than three miles from campus, Hiram’s James H. Barrow Biological Field Station provides students with a 550-acre research and educational facility that not only enhances the science and environmental studies program, but also delivers enrichment and inspiration for students of all majors. The Field Station’s buildings, animals, wildlife rehabilitation center, and natural and semi-natural areas are maintained entirely by Hiram students under the direction of faculty and staff. There are many opportunities for students to gain paid hands-on experiences or internships in areas such as animal husbandry, habitat preservation, educational outreach, grounds keeping, woodworking, and landscaping and trail maintenance.

Nursing Simulation Lab

The best nurses possess knowledge beyond anatomy and physiology. They are skilled listeners and communicators, ethical decision makers, and compassionate caregivers. At Hiram, our nursing students are educated through classroom instruction, clinical experiences, and laboratory learning. And with our direct entry Bachelor of Science in nursing program, there is no waitlist or separate application process. This state-of-the-art lab space inside Teachout-Price Hall includes an eight bed acute care unity and an eight-station ambulatory unit, as well as a critical care simulation unit, where students are taught to care for the most seriously ill patients with compassion and skill.
