Welcome to Golden West College (or GWC), a two-year college located in beautiful Huntington Beach, California (aka Surf City). GWC provides an affordable education for future transfer students and skilled trade seekers, just 30 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. Join me now, and explore just a few of the highlights of our scenic 120-acre ocean community campus.

Amphitheater

GWC's acoustic Amphitheater is located on the east side of campus. The outdoor venue hosts performances, awards ceremonies, cultural celebrations and community events.

Bookstore

The Bookstore Building is located just southeast of the Student Center and features print and digital books and textbooks, Golden West apparel and accessories, school supplies and technology. Textbooks are available for sale or for rent. If you're hungry, the Bookstore is also a great place to stop and grab a snack or beverage.

California Native Garden

Located close to the Math and Science Building is GWC's own award-winning native garden. The volunteer-operated garden features flowers, plants, hummingbirds and butterflies native to the state, adding to the rich campus landscape. Biology and Botany students access the garden for their studies. Tours can be arranged for students, staff, faculty and visitors, and students are welcome to become volunteers themselves. 7. Fine Arts Center

The Fine Arts Center is part of the Arts and Letters Division, located on the east side of campus. The Center provides studios and classrooms to support a range of tracks including Art History, 2 and 3D Design, Painting, Sculpture, Jewelry, Photography, Printmaking and more. Digital Arts and Media courses are held on the second floor. Guest lectures are held at the nearby Forum II Lecture Hall. Students and professional artists display the fruits of their labor at the Fine Arts Gallery.

Humanities Building

The Humanities Building is home to our Computer Science, Computer Business Applications and Behavioral & Social Sciences departments. It offers three floors of instructional, work and administrative space. In addition to classrooms, students can access the building's computer labs, and staff and faculty have access to offices and staff meeting rooms. Many Golden West courses are offered online, as hybrid courses, intersession or on the weekends.

Library

The Golden West College Library currently boasts a collection of approximately 55,000 items, including over 9000 digital volumes. Group study rooms and Wi-Fi are available on the second and third floors. The rooms are fully equipped with computers and large screen monitors for research and word processing, as well as printing capability. The Library is also home to the Student Success Center, the High Tech Center for students with disabilities, and multiple Tutoring rooms.

Quad

The Quad is the green heart of the GWC campus. The space provides a natural setting for small and large-scale events from student organization gatherings to commencement ceremonies. The path along the Quad's perimeter is directly accessible to several key buildings including Music, Communications, Admissions and Financial Aid. During College Preview Day, the college's president has even been known to hula hoop on the Quad.

Student Center

Golden West's Student Center is conveniently located in the center of campus. Students come here to enjoy a meal, connect with friends and plug into campus events and organizations. The Cove Café offers meals straight from the grill, pizzas, sandwiches, fresh Mexican, and a range of ready-to-go bites from the Smart Market. There's also a game room and student lounge where students can play pool or catch a show or movie on T.V. The Student Activities Office on the second floor is where you can buy tickets for events on and off-campus and get involved with GWC clubs.

Theatre Building

The Theatre Building houses the instructional and performance spaces that support Golden West's Theatre Arts Department. The Department stages a minimum of four productions each academic season. The Mainstage Theatre seats 339 and the Stage West Theatre seats just under 100. GWC students have been nominated for Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival scholarships for their work as performers, assistant directors and stage managers, and many go on to enjoy professional careers in theatre, film and television.

Music Building

The Music Building houses GWC's Music Department. Classrooms, studios and rehearsal spaces serve students on one of two tracks: Music Education Preparation and Music Performance. Additional programs in recording arts and live sound re-enforcement courses are available as part of the Career and Technical Education Division. Golden West music instructors have been the recipients of many prestigious awards over the years, including Grammy awards.
