Welcome to Framingham State University (or FSU), the nation's first public university for teacher preparation, and home of The Rams! Founded by educator and legislator Horace Mann in 1839, FSU now offers 26 undergraduate majors and 24 graduate programs in the arts, sciences, and professional fields. Heineman Ecumenical & Cultural Center

This is the Heineman Ecumenical and Cultural Center, dedicated to spiritual and cultural activities at FSU, including religious services, poetry readings, and musical performances. Each year, the Center hosts a traditional Christmas reading of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, in addition to a holiday concert and other events. The Center was originally built as St. John's Parish Church, which served the Framingham community from 1860 to 1952. Recently renovated, the building has a customized sound system and fully-restored stained-glass windows.

Justin MacCarthy Center

The Justin McCarthy Center is the hub of social life at FSU, and its five floors house a wide range of student services. Here, students can visit the game room, find food at the snack bar or Dining Commons, check out the Mazmanian Art Gallery, or enjoy the Center's outdoor recreational areas. The Center is home to the campus radio station, WDJM, as well as the student newspaper, The Gatepost. The offices of Career Services, the Student Government Association, Campus Police, Campus Ministry, Student Involvement, and Campus Events are also located in the building.

Crocker Hall

Built in 1886, Crocker Hall is the oldest building on the FSU campus. Once a dormitory for students and faculty, it is now home to the Economics and Business Administration, Psychology and Philosophy, and Sociology departments, as well as several administrative offices. The building was named for Lucretia Crocker, a distinguished alumna and professor at FSU. A math and science scholar, Crocker became the first woman to serve on the Boston School Board and was a dedicated advocate of higher education for women.

Peirce Hall

Welcome to Peirce Hall, an all-female residence hall that houses 120 students. The building also serves as the campus mailroom, and contains the Center for Academic Support and Advising, where students can access a variety of free resources including tutoring, study spaces for groups or individuals, academic advisement, and a computer lab. Built in 1914, Peirce Hall was named after Cyrus Peirce, who was the first Principal of the Normal School, which later became Framingham State University. He is credited as FSU's first President and coined the school's motto: "Live to the Truth."

Dwight Hall

This is Dwight Hall, built in 1937 and named for philanthropist Edmund Dwight, whose generous donations enabled Thomas Mann to found the School. Dwight Hall is home to many administrative offices, including the Office of the President, Administration and Finance, Orientation and First-Year Programs, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and Student Accounts. Dwight Hall also contains the Dwight Performing Arts Center, an auditorium that hosts a variety of lectures and performances year-round, in addition to a gymnasium and various classrooms.

Whittemore Library

The Henry Whittemore Library is an important destination for students at FSU, with seven floors of valuable resources and services. The University library has a collection of over 200,000 volumes, 70,000 electronic journals, 1,500 periodical subscriptions, and a variety of online research databases. As the first teacher preparation school in the country, FSU has a special collection of rare books on the history of education, and the College Archives include photographs, video, journals and other materials related to education history. In addition to these resources, the library also has its own café, lounges, copy center and print shop, and it houses the departments of Modern Language, Music, and Communication Arts. Facilities for these departments are also located in the building, including a darkroom and a TV production studio.

Hemenway Hall

Opened in 1962, Hemenway Hall is the largest academic building on campus and contains the departments of Family and Consumer Sciences, Mathematics, Nursing, Biology, Chemistry and Food Science, Physics and Earth Science, and Psychology. It houses the University Planetarium, Food Pilot Plant Laboratory and Child Development Laboratory, with renovations planned to include more than a dozen new teaching laboratories. The building was named for Mary Hemenway, a philanthropist who forged a place for home economics in public education, and who helped to develop the department of Family and Consumer Sciences at FSU..

May Hall

This is May Hall, home to the offices and classrooms of the liberal arts programs at FSU. Here students can find the departments of Art, English, and History and Politics. The facilities for the Art department are located on the third floor and include studios for painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpture. May Hall was built in 1889 and its image is displayed on the seal of the Town of Framingham.

Foster Hall

Located on the corner of State and Maynard, Foster Hall is the Health and Wellness Center at FSU. Students can access health services at Foster Hall that include treatment for injuries or illness, immunization, referrals to specialists, and other medical care, all provided by certified nurse practitioners. The building also houses the office of Wellness Education, which helps empower students to make healthy lifestyle choices. In addition to these services, the campus Counseling Center is located on the top floor of Foster Hall.

Horace Mann Hall

Horace Man Hall is a co-ed residence hall that houses 120 students and is typically assigned to juniors and seniors. One of seven residence halls on campus, Horace Mann features kitchen facilities, lounges with TVs, study rooms, and laundry amenities. The building was named for Horace Mann, an education reformer and the founder of the Normal School, an institute for teacher-training which later became Framingham State University.
