Carter Science Building

Eastern's 173,000-square foot David G. Carter Science Building is certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. Most mathematics and science instruction at Eastern is housed in the building, allowing for an interdisciplinary approach to science and research. Spread across the building's five floors are academic departments, general-purpose classrooms, a suite of computer labs, a greenhouse, and an observation deck for astronomy research. Laboratory space includes a dedicated Imaging Center with a confocal microscope, a nuclear magnetic resonance facility, a plant-tissue culture lab, a DNA sequencer room, and specially built labs for environmental earth sciences and advanced biotechnology research.

Webb Academic Hall

Webb Hall is one of the major classroom buildings on campus and is home to many Eastern academic departments and their faculty members, including those in the Business, Psychology, and Education programs. With an average class size of 21 students — and with 84 percent of classes having fewer than 30 students —it's easy to get to know your professors on a personal level. Stop in and visit them in their offices to chat about your class or just say hello! Webb Hall is centrally located on campus, near the library and an easy walk from any residence hall.

Goddard Hall

Welcome to Goddard Hall, home to Eastern's newly remodeled Nursing and Health Sciences facilities. These state-of-the-art labs are designed to provide an immersive, hands-on learning experience for students in our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and Health Sciences major. Students practice vital health assessments, interact with "Hal," a high-fidelity manikin capable of simulating real-life medical scenarios, perform virtual dissections utilizing the Anatomage table, and gain experience in maternity and pediatric care, ensuring they are well-prepared for clinical practice. Goddard Hall also hosts an array of new psychology labs that offer students applied experience in behavioral, cognitive, and social psychology. These labs facilitate research in areas such as physiological responses, visual cognition, social dynamics, health psychology, and workplace behavior, providing a comprehensive environment for studying psychological phenomena and preparing for future careers or advanced education.

Communication Building

Our Communication Building, which underwent a full renovation in 2018, boasts a state-of-the-art TV studio and radio station. Every week, students create live news broadcasts on TV22, which serves the University and local community. Students get hands-on experience in the television studio and control room, with opportunities to work as producers, directors, editors, on-air talent, camera operators, technical directors, and audio technicians. Video cameras, still cameras, and more are also available on loan to students. You can hear everything from jazz to hip-hop on *WECS*, Eastern's student-run radio station, where students serve as announcers, disc jockeys, music directors and production technicians.

Fine Arts Instructional Center

Here we are at the Fine Arts Instructional Center, home of the Art and Art History Department, Communication, Film, and Theatre Department, and the Music Department. The lobby opens to the majestic, 400-seat Concert Hall, designed for musical performances and large gatherings. The beautiful dance studio on the second floor has floor-to-ceiling windows that provide a spectacular view of campus. Piano labs, private practice rooms, and other spaces support music students and faculty. The 254-seat Proscenium Theatre, as well as the 125-seat Delmonte Bernstein Studio Theatre offer students more spaces for exciting theatrical performances. The Fine Arts Center also has painting and drawing labs, a sculpture lab, a ceramics facility, and printmaking spaces.

J. Eugene Smith Library

The academic hub of the university, Eastern's J. Eugene Smith Library sits in the center of campus. With four levels spread over 127,000 square feet, students have access to more than 400,000 volumes, as well as collections at libraries nationwide through the inter-library loan system. A beautiful reading room features periodicals and a stunning two-floor ceiling. The library also has an archive and resources for student teachers and current educators. Working on a group project or just want an extra-quiet space to study? There are study rooms of various sizes available to rent out, ensuring students have the resources and space to complete their studies.

Student Center

The Student Center is the heart of our campus. Inside, you'll find a fitness center, club offices, the bookstore, theatre, Pride Center, Women's Center, and Intercultural Center. The Student Center also has a Food Court with dining options ranging from sandwiches and hamburgers to a salad bar and pizza station. Eastern hosts more than 2,500 events each year, and many are held here in this building. Whether you want to hang out in the Café with friends, grab a smoothie in the food court, work out in the fitness center, or lead a student organization meeting, the Student Center is the place to be!

1st Year Residence (Constitution)

Eastern encourages students to live on-campus because of the wonderful advantages it has to offer. The majority of all students -- including about 90% of first-year students -- live on campus. Constitution Hall is a popular housing choice for first-year students, with four-person suites that include two bedrooms and a bathroom. Constitution also has study lounges, a computer lab, a game room, and laundry facilities. Plus, it's located next to the library and classrooms in Webb Hall and the Carter Science Building, making it easier to get to class on time. As with all first-year students, Constitution residents are required to purchase the Silver Plus $125 meal plan.

1st Year Residence (Burr)

One of six first-year residence halls, Burr Hall is the most historic building on campus, having been built in 1921. Burr Hall is located next to Shafer Hall and is co-ed by floor. Burr houses 75 students primarily in spacious two-person double rooms, with each room featuring twin, extra-long beds, desks and chairs, and a dresser and closet space for each resident. Common areas on the ground floor include a computer/study room, exercise room and the Sophie Jenkins Living Room. Laundry facilities are also available. As with all first-year students, Burr Hall residents are required to purchase the Silver Plus $125 meal plan.

1st Year Residence (Crandall)

Crandall Residence Hall is a traditional-style residence hall for first-year students, housing 44 students in single bedrooms. Since each student has the room to themselves, many like to arrange the beds into a king-size bed. Additionally, each room is furnished with a desk, chair, and closet/dresser unit. Crandall is co-ed by floor, and has a classic open community atmosphere, making it effortless to meet new people and get involved. You will quickly know everyone in your building! Each floor has a common area with a television, laundry machines, computers, and multiple bathroom and shower facilities cleaned daily by professional staff. Vending machines and a pool table are found in the lobby. Crandall Hall residents are required to purchase the Silver Plus $125 meal plan.

1st Year Residence (Mead)

Welcome to Mead Hall, one of the residence halls for first-year students. Home to 300 students, Mead offers suite-style living, with four people in each suite. Each suite has a common living area, a private bathroom, a vanity area, a pantry for storage, and central heat and air conditioning. Mead Hall is also equipped with laundry facilities, vending machines, a computer lab, study rooms, television lounges, a gaming room and an exercise room. Best of all, for students who like to go back for seconds (or even thirds!), Mead is located right next to the dining hall! Mead Hall residents are required to purchase the Silver Plus $125 meal plan.

The main dining facility at Eastern, *Hurley* Hall feeds thousands of students, faculty and staff each week. Its emphasis on reducing food waste and providing locally-sourced food strengthens Eastern's commitment to sustainability. All new first-year and transfer students enjoy an unlimited meal plan in Hurley's all-you-can-eat dining hall. Many students who live in Eastern's various on-campus apartments with included kitchens still elect to purchase a meal plan to enjoy the variety of delicious food available at Hurley. While you'll see new hot entrées daily, you'll also find your favorite sandwiches, salads, soups, and burgers, as well as options for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. Other on-campus dining includes the Student Center Food Court, with dining options ranging from sandwiches and hamburgers to a salad bar and pizza station.

Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center is conveniently located on the ground floor of the library. The center houses a range of services to support Eastern students. The Advising Center helps each Eastern student in developing an "Eastern in 4" plan to support timely graduation. Peer tutors provide subject matter-based tutoring, while the Math Achievement Center and Writing Center offer supplemental instruction to support the fundamental skills of mathematics and written communication. The Office of Opportunity Programs supports traditionally underserved student populations. Our Office of Global Learning guides students who are interested in studying off-campus – whether part of a global field course, study abroad, or through Eastern's unique partnership with the National Student Exchange program. Also located in the Academic Success Center is the Office of Career Success, which provides assistance ranging from searching for internships to resume writing and interview skills—all to enhance student success after graduation.

Alvin B. Wood Support Center

The Wood Support Center is a one-stop shop conveniently located in the center of campus, halfway between the library and the student center. As the name suggests, the center houses a host of student support services, including the financial aid office, the registrar's office, the Bursar, the housing office, the Office of AccessAbility Services, and other resources. Students may go to the center to speak with financial aid counselors, take their ID picture, make changes to their class schedule, pay their bill and much more

Upper Level Residence (Nutmeg/Laurel)

"As part of the South Residential Village, Nutmeg Hall is one of the newest apartment-style buildings for upper-level students. It shares a courtyard with Laurel Hall, its twin building. Each apartment includes four single bedrooms, a bathroom, a shower room, a living area, kitchen facilities, and central heat and air conditioning. Nutmeg also has lounges; a computer lab; a game room with TVs, video game hook-ups and a pool table; a meeting room for group projects; and laundry facilities. Nutmeg is also conveniently located near the Carter Science Building and classrooms in Webb Hall, so it's easy to get to class on time. "

Upper Level Residence (Occum)

Occum Hall, located directly across from Hurley Dining Hall, is a great option for upper-level students who want to be close to the Student Center. Occum offers upper-level housing in four- and six-person apartments. New transfer students live on the first and second floors and are required to purchase the Silver Plus $125 meal plan. Suites on those floors include two-person bedrooms, a bathroom, a living area, a sink and a refrigerator. Each apartment on the third and fourth floors includes two-person bedrooms, a bathroom, a living area, and a full kitchen. With transfer and upper-level students, Occum is an excellent place to meet new friends.

Upper Level Residence (Niejadik)

Niejadlik Hall is a popular residence hall for sophomores who want to be on the university meal plan. This spacious building contains four-person suites, with each resident having their own bedroom and sharing two bathrooms and a common living room with their suitemates. The building offers many amenities, including lounges equipped with cable-television and comfortable seating; a 24-hour computer lab with printing capabilities; study rooms; an exercise room with cardiovascular workout machines and Soloflex weight machines; and laundry and vending facilities. Niejadlik Hall is conveniently located near the Student Center, the Sports Center and Hurley Dining Hall. Niejadlik residents are required to purchase the Silver Plus $125 meal plan.

Upper Level Residence (Shafer)

Built in 1946 on the grounds of the original Willimantic State Normal School, Shafer Hall has been fully renovated for residential use. The building houses about 90 students and is available for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Options include apartments with loft-style single rooms, along with two- and four-person suites, with most bedrooms set up in a "studio" format with a kitchen area and sleeping quarters. A large game room, computer labs, meeting rooms and other amenities add to the building's attractiveness. A second-floor kitchen and lounge provide students with options for family-style dining. Shafer Hall also features a multi-purpose recreational space for campus-wide use.

Early Childhood Education Center

The Child and Family Development Resource Center is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as home to Eastern's early childhood education program and early learning center. The center provides a setting where University faculty conduct research projects with help from Eastern early childhood education students. Almost every early childhood education course at Eastern includes a practical component that is carried out in the early learning center, giving students the opportunity to design and teach lessons to children from toddler age to age 5. Cameras inside the classrooms record the activities and give students feedback on how to improve their teaching methods.

Sports Center

Here we are at the Sports Center, where students have access to an NCAA-sized swimming pool, gymnasium, racquetball courts, and exercise and weight rooms. We also offer extensive intramural and club sports programs, ranging from flag football, rugby and dodgeball to football, floor hockey and tennis. Students can select from a long list of fitness, health and wellness courses, including yoga, aerobics, tai chi, jogging, cardio kick-boxing, and more. There's something for everyone! All recreational programs are free for Eastern students, faculty and staff.

Mansfield Sports Complex

Welcome to the Athletic Complex, the home of the Eastern Warriors! With 19 varsity teams, Eastern participates in Division III athletics and is a member of the Little East Conference. Our student-athletes have won ten national championships: five in softball and five in baseball, most recently in 2022. Warriors are just as successful in the classroom: For a record seventh time, Eastern athletes have won the Little East Conference's President's Cup for having the highest cumulative GPA among the LEC's eight schools. The complex is also where you will find our 1,000-seat softball field and the 1,500-seat baseball stadium.

Downtown

Willimantic is located in the heart of New England, and our downtown is just a few blocks from Eastern's campus. Whether you want to relax at a coffee shop, enjoy a delicious meal, or shop at a boutique, Willimantic has many attractions and small businesses to explore. The 11-foot-tall frog statues on the iconic "Frog Bridge" recall the folklore of Willimantic, while the thread spools that the frogs rest on give a nod to Willimantic's legacy as a mill town – and its nickname as "The Thread City." This historic New England town has a lively art and cultural scene, and Eastern students are active participants.
