Hands-On Academics

We're all about a challenging academic experience. You'll learn by doing, getting out of the classroom to do research and fieldwork as early as your first year, and nearly all students have at least one internship. Classes are small, which means your professors will know you well. You'll work with experts across majors and get a broad view of subjects. With majors like data analytics, neuroscience and quantitative economics, plus minors and certificates, your academic opportunities are endless. You'll get advice on what classes to take and how to start your journey before you even set foot on campus from your advisors and our career pathways experts. And long after you graduate, the tight-knit Dickinson network will continue to give you support.

The Arts

Express and explore your creative side! You'll have the chance to polish a sonata in Rubendall Recital Hall, revise a poem in a literature seminar, pour bronze in the Goodyear foundry, curate an exhibition in the Trout Gallery, rehearse a scene at Mathers Theatre or choreograph a dance at The Site. We bring renowned artists and performers to campus, and our senior capstone experiences prepare students for the future. Graduates go on to careers as award-winning authors, journalists, artists, performers, curators, illustrators, entertainment executives, screenwriters, educators and more.

Grab your lab coat and step into our cutting-edge STEM programs. Our labs are world class and our tools are the kind you'd normally only find at grad school. In addition to starting research as early as their first year, over 40 percent of our science majors study abroad. Rector Science Complex is packed with professional-quality, high-tech labs and gear, modern design and eco-friendly features. In Tome Hall, you'll find wood, metal and plasma labs and a planetarium. Kaufman Hall is home to geosciences, the Center for Sustainability Education and the Stafford Greenhouse for Teaching & Research. We also have a renowned archeology program with an on-site dig simulator. STEM grads go on to top graduate schools and have careers with Harvard, UCLA, NASA, Tesla, the Mayo Clinic, Google and more.

You'll have a 360-degree student experience here, which includes having fun, making friends and staying healthy. With more than 100 student-run clubs and organizations, it's easy to connect with people who share your passions. Britton Plaza is a go-to hangout spot, and events big and small are held here, including Out on Britton and Pizza on the Plaza. The Holland Union Building, or HUB, is connected to the plaza and includes the dining hall, Devil's Den convenience store, bookstore, theatre and event spaces. Our Kline Athletics Center is one of four state-of-the-art athletics and fitness spaces on campus. The Wellness Center offers health, nutrition, counseling and psychiatric services, and our Access & Disability Services team ensure you have all the support and accommodations you need to be successful.

Living & Eating on Campus

Where you live is about more than just a place to crash at the end of the day. It's about the community. Dickinson offers living options across campus and in downtown Carlisle. Residence halls include lounges and kitchens, and townhouses and apartments are available to upper-level students. We know food is a big deal: Visit the dining hall (where you'll perfect the art of the Caf Hack), Union Station (with mobile ordering), Underground (gotta get that sushi!) and Biblio Café (epic coffee and pastries). Also part of campus are Denim Coffee at the Quarry (a local chain and student fav) and Farm Works, which serves fresh daily soups and salads made from our very own College Farm produce. With more than 30 local restaurants within walking distance, there's something for every flavor of foodie!

Red Devil Athletics

A fire burns in every Red Devil! Our student-athletes strive for excellence—in competition, in the classroom and in the community. They are NCAA Division III Centennial Conference champions, All-Americans and MVPs. Our award-winning coaches are mentors and motivators. More than 60 percent of our athletes study abroad, and teams regularly boast high collective GPAs and placement on the academic honor roll. Our athletes have access to state-of-the-art training and competition facilities. Our entire student body shows their spirit by always "wearing the red." Our Red Devil graduates can be found in every corner of sports—across the NBA, NFL and MLB—from broadcasting and operations to coaching and marketing.

Want to go abroad for a semester? Absolutely. For a year? Definitely. To two or three locations? Done. For more than 50 years, we've operated our own global study centers (more than any other small college in the world) with Dickinson programs in 15 countries, managed by Dickinson faculty members and offering a seamless transition of academic credit and financial aid. We've also got more than 30 semester-long and year-long programs across the world. More than 60 percent of students study off campus and our study abroad programs are among the highest ranked in the country. On campus, you can study 13 languages, and our international clubs and immersive Mosaic programs infuse a global perspective into everything we do.

Sustainable Leadership

We're next-level sustainable. As one of the first carbon-neutral colleges in the country, we're consistently ranked among the top colleges for sustainability by outlets like Forbes, Princeton Review, Sierra magazine and more. Sustainability is infused throughout our campus, our curriculum and our community, from our Center for Sustainability Education, which runs initiatives like the Hive bee cooperative, the Handlebar bike program and the Sustainability Internship Program, to our certified organic college farm. Our campus features multiple Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) buildings, including the first LEED Platinum student residence hall in Pennsylvania. We were also named a Gold Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists.

Living in Carlisle

It doesn't take many steps beyond campus to officially arrive in downtown Carlisle. With over 40,000 people calling Carlisle home, Dickinsonians frequent the eclectic dining and shopping options; intern, work and volunteer with local businesses; explore nature on the Appalachian Trail; and head to nearby Harrisburg, New York, D.C., Philly or Baltimore for concerts, trips and exploration. Dig in to history through the Army Heritage Center, Carlisle Indian School Digital Resource Center and Pennsylvania Civil War Trails, and expand your artistic side at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center and Carlisle Theatre. Carlisle was recognized on the Best College Towns in America list and is a Forbes "most livable city."

Dickinson has graduated some of the most influential thinkers, leaders, artists and innovators in the world, including Forbes Most Powerful Woman in Healthcare, the world's leading scientific mind in chemistry and nanotechnology and the president and CEO of L.L. Bean, to name a few. Our powerful network includes more than 30,000 alumni worldwide. We even have a course called Profiles in Leadership that brings alumni business leaders to campus to share their expertise. Our law and med school acceptance rates are typically more than 90%, and nearly all grads are in a job or graduate school within one year. Dickinsonians have lifelong access to our alumni network and career services: from internships and first jobs to career changes, graduate school and fellowships—we're here to help you achieve your goals.
