Welcome to California State University San Marcos, founded in 1989 and located just 35 miles north of San Diego. Cal State San Marcos is comprised of four colleges: Business Administration, Science and Mathematics, Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences, and Education, Health and Human Services. In addition to BachelorÕs degrees, students can enroll in programs leading to MasterÕs degrees as well as teaching credentials.

University Hall

Education students will take the majority of their core classes here inside University Hall, which is conveniently located near the library and several other classroom buildings. Courses are designed to emphasize critical thinking, a sense of ethics, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Because of partnerships with area schools, community organizations, and hospitals, students can practice their pedagogical skills and gain first-hand knowledge in a variety of educational settings.

Craven Hall

Craven Hall was one of the original buildings on the Cal State San Marcos campus and housed multiple colleges and the library under its roof. Today it is home to the College of Science and Math as well as various administrative offices. Every student will visit the one-stop shop known as Cougar Central, where student services like Financial Aid and Scholarships, and Enrollment Management Services are located. Make sure you are on the right academic track by visiting Undergraduate Advising Services, and plan your next steps with help from the Career Center.

Markstein Hall

Markstein Hall houses the College of Business Administration, which is comprised of three departments: Accounting and Finance, Information Systems and Operations Management, and Management and Marketing. During their last year, students participate in the unique Senior Experience Program by working as consultants for area businesses and organizations, where they acquire real-world experience. Meet the Leaders, aimed at current and prospective MBA students, is a program that brings in government officials, entrepreneurs, and business leaders for Saturday lunchtime presentations.

Palm Court

Palm Court is a beautifully landscaped outdoor area leading up to the building housing the College of Business Administration. Palm tree-lined walkways are dotted with benches and grassy spots where students can sit and study. Since the campus has a strong wireless network, Palm Court is a favorite location for laptop users.

Kellogg Library

The five-story Kellogg Library opened in 2004 and devotes 200,000 square feet to print materials, study areas, and computers. In addition to the Writing Center and Math Lab on the first floor, there are several library staff members who offer research assistance in particular subjects like chemistry and anthropology. The Curriculum Room, located on the fifth floor, is a unique repository for K-12 curriculum materials utilized by students in the School of Education.

Academic Hall

The departments and offices inside Academic Hall have changed over the years, but it remains one of the main classroom buildings; it also houses both computer and kinesiology labs as well as the American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI). The ALCI provides English language instruction to international students, combining traditional coursework with travel opportunities. The clock tower at the top of this building will become a familiar sight, as it is part of the Cal State San Marcos logo.

Science Hall

Science Hall was constructed just a few years after the university was founded, and was the first laboratory building on campus. In addition to the traditional science disciplinesÑbiology, chemistry, and physicsÑCal State created a groundbreaking Biotechnology program. San Diego is ranked #1 for its biotechnology industry, making job and internship prospects very promising. Faculty in all of the science departments here involve students in research efforts in areas like virology, oceanography, and atmospheric chemistry, just to name a few.

Founders Plaza

Founders Plaza is in the center of campus amidst the first buildings constructed. There are twelve members of the Òfounding facultyÓ that helped open the doors to Cal State San Marcos and further its educational mission in the early years. The seal in the ground at Founders Plaza pays tribute to these university leaders; the images evoke specific academic disciplines and diversity among the student population.

University Commons

Social opportunities include 80 organizations and clubs, fraternities and sororities, and competitive sports.
