Core Building

Welcome to our virtual tour! Here, you'll discover many of the things that make us unique. The CORE is an open-concept building that is at the center of everything. It's where you'll find our library and places to create, collaborate and study. On the top floor, the Student Center for Academic Achievement is the place to go for free tutoring and eTutoring in many subjects and the online writing lab gives feedback on your writing assignments. Library services include research assistance, loaner laptops, hotspots and 32 group study rooms that can be reserved. There is a meditation room, a family friendly study area and more.

Student Administration Building

The Student Services and Administration building houses services for current students such as assistance with registration and financial aid, cashier's and billing, and academic advising. You will also find teams of students and staff ready to help you succeed. The Peer Academic Coaches are trained students who can help you with study skills and resources. On the second floor, you will find the Academic Advising and Career Education Office. In addition to academic advisors, there are also career counselors who help students find work and internships, as well as develop skills to land jobs in their chosen fields.

University Unions

The University Unions, just across from the CORE, are a gathering place for the campus community and home to Student Government, Student Life, the Diversity and Inclusion Student Center and additional identity based student success centers. Both buildings have meeting room space and a variety of food options. You will also find a convenience store for grab and go food and other necessities, and gaming rooms equipped with billiards tables and all of the latest consoles and games. Plus, there are plenty of places to hang out and study or meet friends.

While Cal State East Bay offers hundreds of courses remotely through our Online Campus, most of our classes are held on campus. Our faculty-to-student ratio is lower than most large universities, which means you get to know your classmates and faculty. WiFi is available throughout the campus and many classrooms are "smart" with the latest technology. One of the remarkable opportunities at Cal State East Bay is that many of our students, both undergraduate and graduate, have a chance to do research alongside their professors. This "learn by doing" model gives students an advantage with experience that takes them right into the workplace.

Pioneer Heights Housing

Pioneer Heights is the on campus housing community located right across from the Recreation and Wellness Center. The apartments are fully furnished including a kitchen or kitchenette, dining area and living room. There are live-in resident assistants who build community and promote resident safety. Pioneer Heights has all that you need at home such as dedicated mail services, community rooms and laundry rooms. There are also basketball courts, a BBQ terrace and green spaces to enjoy the beautiful Bay Area weather. You can add to your college experience through Pioneer Living, our residential program that holds special events and student leadership opportunities just for residents.

Dining Commons

The Dining Commons, also known as Pioneer Kitchen, offers residents and the campus community a variety of all you care to eat options. You'll find a variety of foods suited to all dietary preferences and restrictions at Pioneer Kitchen. The daily chef's special gives students an opportunity to try foods from different cultures and regions of the world. All students living on-campus are required to be on a meal plan that can be used at Pioneer Kitchen along with dining locations around campus. Commuter plans are also available to any students living off campus.

The Bay Area

The Greek Hill behind Pioneer Heights shows off our fabulous view. There is no place like California's beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. Students will find exciting places to explore and things to do. San Francisco and San Jose-Silicon Valley plus destinations such as Napa and Lake Tahoe are just a drive away. The university often hosts student events throughout the region such as Broadway shows in San Francisco or Cal State East Bay night at the Oakland A's game.Our location in the heart of the Bay Area provides infinite opportunities for internships in every industry, giving you on-the-job experience and practical training to help launch your career.

Recreation and Wellness Center (RAW)

Across from Pioneer Heights is the Recreation and Wellness Center or the RAW, which is included in student fees. Amenities include a multi-court gym, elevated indoor jogging track, fitness center, activity rooms for aerobics, martial arts and dancing, and locker rooms. Inside the RAW is a Wellness Center which offers programs and services to holistically support student health. Programs offered include the Farmer's Market, Dog Therapy Day, and other wellness focused events. These amenities are for all current students to enjoy!

Student Health and Counseling Services

Student Health and Counseling Services is the medical and mental health clinic that serves current students. Basic health services are covered by the health fee paid each semester . Students can make appointments for physicals, reproductive health, immunizations, gender-affirming care, psychiatry, and HIV and STI testing. It also offers brief individual and group counseling, as well as couples counseling, if both partners are registered East Bay students. The Pioneers for HOPE food pantry is located within the student health center, where students can receive food, personal hygiene products and housing resources for free.

At Cal State East Bay, students don't just sit in lecture halls, but also learn with hands-on experiences. Many of our courses have opportunities for you to get in the action, whether it's discovering environmental impacts on our local waterways and landscape, helping our regional communities with social or public health education, or practicing the skills that you will need to have a successful career.

Student and Faculty Support Building

The Welcome Center is located inside of the Student and Faculty Services Building, where prospective students and their families can receive general information, learn about admission requirements, or take a tour of our beautiful campus. Our Campus Extension Office also supports our International Students, study abroad programs, and the Bay Area's only National Student Exchange program. Student Equity and Success provides programs and services designed to assist low income, first generation, and historically underrepresented and underserved students. Many of our alumni tell us that these programs were the best part of their college experience where they made lifelong friends.

Pioneer Athletics

Our NCAA Division II athletes use the stadium for practices and games. Cal State East Bay has 15 Intercollegiate men's and women's athletic programs. Since 1961, the Pioneers have won a total of seven team national collegiate championships and eight individual national championships. Cal State East Bay has produced more than 250 All-Americans and over 80 conference championships in NCAA, as well as in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Physical Education

The Physical Education building houses the athletic gym, two smaller multi-purpose rooms, a weight room, two dance studios, two heated swimming pools and handball courts. There is also a Kinesiology Lab that has state-of-the-art equipment to support the department's teaching, research, and community service mission. Students in kinesiology use this equipment to evaluate exercise and body functioning. The lab is also a place for students to work collaboratively on class and research projects. The Center for Sport and Social Justice promotes inclusion and social justice in sports through ongoing research, workshops, lectures and community outreach.

Music Building

The Music Building has 8 sound-proof practice rooms, more than 40 pianos, and a recording studio for student use. Our bands and choirs tour all over Northern California and invite high schools to campus to perform and compete. Inside the music building is the Ray R. Rees Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic which offers innovative and cutting-edge treatment for clients. The best part? Under the supervision of licensed professionals, students in our speech pathology program conduct all clinical procedures giving them hands-on training for their future careers.

Theatre

The Theatre hosts diverse cultural events presented by students, clubs, community organizations and collaborating artists. The building includes a prop room, make-up room, classrooms, offices, a "black-box" studio theater and outdoor spaces. The Department trains students in acting, dance, inclusive performance, directing, creative activists, design and technology and stage management. Alumni work professionally across the nation in diverse performance forms, teaching, community work, social justice activism, healing arts and more. Just outside the theatre is a favorite study and photo spot. The Redwood Grove has a giant red chair that is perfect for photos.

Arts and Education Building

The Arts and Education building was the first building on the Hayward campus. Cal State East Bay was once known as a teacher's college and the tradition of producing many of California's teachers continues to this day. The A&E building is home to the College of Education and Allied Studies that prepares students for careers not only in teaching, but also in hospitality, recreation, graphic design, and so much more. There are two art galleries showcasing student work and a life-size Zen garden. Students can create their next masterpiece in our art studio, photo developing labs, multimedia lab, and ceramic, metal and wood shop.

Valley Business and Technology Center

The Wayne and Gladys Valley Business and Technology Center is the home of the College of Business & Economics. The VBT features some of the most technologically advanced classrooms and presentation spaces on campus. The natural lighting and open space is also a great place to study! Business & Economics programs incorporate experiential learning driven by technology. The Finance Lab brings the stock exchange to the classroom and industry experts visit as guest speakers and provide mentorship. The college offers career and professional development by sharing job opportunities and resources for a smooth transition into the workforce.

Bookstore

The Pioneer Bookstore offers many services and makes campus life convenient for students and visitors. Complete services such as textbook buyback, book rentals, copy services, laptop repair and a technology vending machine. Come here to get all of your East Bay gear, school supplies, and much more. The Pioneer bookstore offers qualified incoming freshmen and transfer students the opportunity to choose between an iPad or a $500 laptop voucher at the bookstore.

STEM @ CSU East Bay

The future Applied Sciences Center will be an addition to our existing Science buildings enhancing student support with new state of the art programs. It will promote collaborative learning through peer-to-peer guidance in courses that build strong foundations, interactive research with faculty, and cutting-edge labs. This new facility will expand student research opportunities and accommodate the rapid growth in students studying the sciences. The Institute for STEM Education works on campus and in the region to improve STEM teaching for educators, increase access to STEM education and career awareness to foster employment opportunities.
