Welcome to Chicago State University (or CSU), an innovative and historic liberal arts institution and home of the Cougars. It's hard to believe that CSU began in a railroad freight car back in 1867. As evidence of its continued relevance, the school has moved and grown, from its programming and diverse student population to its campus and accessibility. Its alumni include top athletes, activists, authors and statesmen. Join me now, and explore just a few of the highlights of our dynamic, 160-acre campus in Chicago, Illinois.

Robinson University Center

This is Robinson University Center, a multipurpose facility located in the upper half of campus. The center provides students with activity space, the CSU Bookstore – offering textbooks, school supplies, gifts and CSU gear, and several staff offices. It also houses the university's Childcare Center to bring higher education within reach for students who are also parents.

University Library

The University Library houses a comprehensive print and digital collection and features two open computer labs, multipurpose rooms, and both group and quiet study spaces. The library also boasts an Automated Storage and Retrieval System called ROVER that can retrieve five books in 2.5 minutes (as compared to a student, who can retrieve the same number of books in about two hours). Students can also check out media items such as DVD's from the library.

Cordell Reed Student Union

The L-shaped Cordell Reed Student Union is where students come to fuel up with a meal or snack from the Cafeteria, from 7:30 am to 8:15 pm, with just a few short breaks between. It's also home to several student services including Career Development, Counseling, Tutoring and the Ombuds Office (where students can come to share any thoughts or concerns they have about life on campus). Students visiting the Student Union can also take advantage of social events and entertainment or hop on one of the many computers in the academic computing center for work or research.

Williams Science Center

Williams Science Center is home to several departments including Biological Sciences, History, Philosophy and Political Science, and Geography, Sociology, Economics and Anthropology. Williams is also where you'll find the Frederick Blum Neighborhood Assistance Center, which provides research and assistance to local organizations. The Center houses one of CSU's two art galleries – the University Gallery – on the building's second floor.

Cook Administration Building

The Cook Administration Building is where students can come to find out about admission to the university, request records, register for classes, make tuition payments, and pick up bus passes or stamps. Cook is also home to the President's Gallery, displaying the work of professional local, national and international artists.

Douglas Hall

The Paul and Emily Douglas Hall is where students will find state-of-the-art learning environments for the Department of Occupational Therapy and the College of Pharmacy, as well as the Department of Communication, Media Arts, and Theatre. Douglas is one of the most active spots for CSU culture and entertainment; the Douglas Hall Pavilion hosts special music and art events; the Breakey Theater hosts dance, theater and music events; an outdoor amphitheater behind the hall features a variety of entertainment including outdoor movie screenings. CSU's radio and television stations are also based out Douglas Hall.

Harold Washington Hall

Here at Harold Washington Hall, CSU students study a broad range of subjects including Engineering, Psychology, Music, Criminal Justice, Math and Computer Science, and Foreign Languages and Literature. The hall is also home to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Jacoby D. Dickens Physical Education Center

The Jacoby D. Dickens Center (JDC) is headquarters for Division I Cougar Athletics and the Health and Physical Education Department. In addition to housing CSU's gymnasiums – including the primary 2,500-seat gym, JDC features a trio of swimming pools, classrooms, a fully-equipped fitness center and a dance studio.

Business and Health Sciences

The Businesses and Health Sciences Building prepares students for successful careers in Business, with programs in Accounting and Finance, Management, Marketing and Information Systems. It also arms students with degrees in Health Information Administration, Nursing and Art.
