Let's get this out of the way first: students fall in love with Chatham's Shadyside campus. When we ask students why they chose to come here, so often, they tell us "As soon as I set foot on campus, I just knew." There's a magic here that can't quite be captured in photographs. But if you're considering coming to Chatham, you want to know where you'll eat, sleep, work out, hang out, learn, and everything else, and we're excited to show you. And with that, we'll start the tour. Berry Hall

If you like renovated historical mansions, you'll love Chatham. This is Berry Hall, where our Office of Admission is located. If you come for a campus visit, this is where we'll meet you and leave for the walking tour. It's also where you can go if you have any questions or need help during the admissions process.

Mellon Center

We're now heading to Mellon Center. Built by industrialist Andrew W. Mellon in 1887, Mellon houses the Office of the President as well as neat gathering spaces and conference rooms. It also features lots of quiet study spaces for students on the ground floor, including the sunroom, a student favorite. The basement is home to Mellon Board Room. Originally a swimming pool, it is now the home for many campus events like the annual Holiday Ball and Eggnog reception. A campus tradition is to walk through Mellon and wave to the painting of Andrew Mellon for good luck on upcoming exams.

Anderson Dining Hall

At Chatham, you are never far from food. That's a fact. Here's Anderson Dining Hall, the main dining facility. In the morning, come in for eggs made fresh to order or a warm, decadent waffle with a variety of toppings. Later, build a salad made with vegetables fresh from our Eden Hall Campus when possible, and delicious homemade dressings. Or try our grill for fresh, never-frozen hamburgers or one of the tasty daily specials, with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Top it all off with signature desserts and an ice cream bar. Meals can be enjoyed in the dining hall, ordered through a mobile ordering app, or taken out in sustainable reusable containers.

Athletic & Fitness Center

Here's the Athletic and Fitness Center, also known as the AFC. It's one of the nicest in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, and home to the Chatham Cougars. On the first floor, there's a fitness room, a dance studio, and a classroom for wellness classes. On the ground floor, there's an eight-lane swimming pool with sauna and steam room; squash courts; rock climbing walls; and our UPMC athletic trainer's room for our Division III athletes. Chatham students can take courses like scuba diving, hip-hop dance, aerobics, cardio blast, and more. There are also free programs such as yoga, dance, and white-water rafting.

Art & Design Center

Formerly Chatham's 1950's-era gymnasium and now sustainably repurposed, the Art and Design Center features sculpture and ceramics studios with a kiln room, and naturally-lit studios for painting and printmaking, along with a classroom, computer labs with the latest audio-visual and digital equipment, and faculty offices. Students also have access to digital editing and sound labs, a graphics production lab, and lighting studios. Here you'll find students from all disciplines and majors working closely with professors to develop their skills. Whether you're a born artist, or just looking to take an art class during your time at Chatham, the Art and Design Center is sure to inspire you. Plus, you'll be reminded of Chatham students of the past with the original center court logo still intact on the second floor.

Carriage House

The Carriage House used to be where Andrew Mellon kept his horses, but today, it's home to the largest of Chatham's student lounges. The Carriage House is accessible 24 hours a day with a student ID, and the lounge area includes a big-screen TV with surround sound, Wii, DVD player, a fireplace and board games. There is also a game room with a pool table. Equipped with a newly renovated kitchenette, the Carriage House is the perfect place for commuter students to hang out, eat, and relax in between classes. The Carriage House is also home to the Chatham Activities Board, which plans late-night and weekend events and traditions; Chatham Student Government; spaces for student organizations to meet; the Office of Student Engagement; and the Office of Resident Life.

Quad

The Quad is the center of campus, and is located between Eddy Theatre, the Library, Woodland Hall, Café Rachel, and Braun, Falk, and Coolidge Halls. When the weather is good, students hang out on the grass with friends, play casual sports games, relax in hammocks, or enjoy reading in one of the Adirondack chairs or on the many benches.

Edward Danforth Eddy Theater

The Edward Danforth Eddy Theatre, named after a former acclaimed president of Chatham, is a tiered auditorium with a large stage and full audio-visual equipment that houses 285 seats. It's often used for lectures, presentations, and theatre productions. Chatham offers many opportunities for students to perform on campus, including the Drama Club, Vagina Monologues, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and musicals like Chicago. Eddy has also hosted speakers such as Alice Walker, acclaimed author of The Color Purple, master illusionist, Elliot Zimet, and former congresswoman Marjorie Margolies Mezvinsky.

Jennie King Mellon Library

This is the Jennie King Mellon Library. Staff here are exceptionally friendly and eager to help students with all their research needs. Here you'll find lots of group-study spaces and individual study rooms available for students to reserve. It also features a 24-hour computer lab for student use, as well as free printing and copier machines, and and a studio space for Chatham's Immersive Media program. The third floor is a designated silent study space and has an exceptional view that looks out over the city. OAAR, the Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources is also located in the library, and offers free tutoring, supplemental instruction programs, Disability Support Services, academic coaching, and writing support services for students.

Woodland Hall and Cafe Rachel

Across the Quad is Woodland Hall, home to Café Rachel, our on-campus coffee shop. It's a great place to hang out over a cappuccino, or grab food for lunch or dinner. Café Rachel also hosts events such as Bingo Nights, International Night, and karaoke. Attached to Café Rachel is The Susan Bergman Gurrentz '56 Art Gallery, which showcases local artists as well as student and faculty work. The gallery offers students the opportunity to curate collections and shows. Woodland Hall is also where you'll find the Office of Student Affairs. The Office of Student Affairs oversees Counseling and Health Services, Residence Life, and Student Engagement. It is committed to building a vibrant and inclusive student experience through creative programs, professional development, leadership opportunities, and creating a safe and healthy environment.

Braun-Falk-Coolidge Halls

Next, we are going to head over to our main academic buildings: Braun Hall, Falk Hall, and Coolidge Hall. Classes in this building are small with an overall 10:1 student to faculty ratio. Students don't need to worry about braving the elements between classes as these academic buildings are connected and offer common areas for commuters to use lockers and study between classes. As we enter Braun Hall, you will see the offices of Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and the Registrar. These offices help students prepare and plan for paying for college and creating a course schedule. The Office of International Affairs is located in the basement of Falk Hall. Continuing to Coolidge Hall, you can take a look into C134, one of our largest classrooms, equipped with a new sound system and comfortable tiered auditorium seating.

Buhl Science Complex

This is the Science Complex. It's a 10,000 square-foot laboratory building which features a three-story glass atrium along with specialized research spaces; laboratories and classrooms; a climate controlled instrument laboratory; environmental chambers; extensive computing facilities; tissue culture and microscopy equipment; and other modern instruments.

James Laughlin Music Center

This is the James Laughlin Music Center. Classes taught here include violin, guitar, piano, and drums. It also offers soundproof practice rooms and music offices and classrooms. Events and presentations, many of which include free food, are held in the Welker Room in this building. The Office of Career Development is also located in this building. Career Development is much more than a place to get help with your resume. It offers lots of opportunities to help you explore your interests and figure out how to best translate them into professional development.

Campbell Memorial Chapel

Campbell Memorial Chapel is home to some of Chatham's most beloved traditions like Candlelight, a non-denominational service at Christmastime that brings Chatham students of past and present together. Since Chatham is non-denominational, we have a Worldview Network. This community of faith-based campus liaisons helps connect students with religious and spiritual resources in the greater Pittsburgh area. Members of this network attend Chatham's involvement fair each term and often meet with students on campus for spiritual support. The Chapel is a peaceful space for students to study, attend classes, practice performing arts, or simply reflect.

Beatty House

Here is Beatty House, built in 1869. Once a residence hall, it is now the home of the Office of Alumni Relations, University Advancement, and the Office of Marketing & Communications. While the building now houses office space, students can still take advantage of a sunny afternoon by studying or chatting on the large porch. That's our last stop!
