Kelvin Smith Library

The Kelvin Smith Library is busy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At CWRU, we get paired with a personal librarian, who connects us with academic resources across campus, which is so helpful. There are collaboration rooms and areas for private study. In the lower level is University Technology Services for computer help right where we need it. Also in the library, we can borrow video and sound- and video-recording equipment just by swiping our IDs.

Tinkham Veale University Center

The Tinkham Veale University Center (we call it The Tink) is our student center. Student organizations are here along with the LGBT Center, the Greek Life Office, the Center for Women, and the Center for Civic Engagement and Learning. Also, this building has huge ballrooms upstairs for speakers and concerts. In the food court, we can use meal swipes for some of the best grilled cheese EVER. It's a great, central place to meet up with friends, and work on group projects.

Mather Quad

Mather Quad is home to the humanities and social sciences. 1 in 3 students major in the social sciences or humanities at CWRU, and 1 in 4 double major. The sculpture you see here in the center of this quad, Merging, represents the coming together of Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University in 1967. This federation is where we get our longstanding tradition of excellence in the sciences, engineering, social sciences and the humanities, as well as our long name... Students from all disciplines conduct research, they are active participants in the local community, and they study abroad--at a rate three times the national average.

Peter B. Lewis Building

The Peter B. Lewis building is one of the most iconic places at Case Western Reserve. It's home to the Weatherhead School of Management. The architect is Frank Gehry, who also designed the Guggenheim in Spain and the Disney Music Center in California. Our business programs include accounting, finance, marketing, economics, entrepreneurship, international business and supply chain management. Business students take a capstone course where they work as a team of consultants with major companies.

Maltz Performing Arts Center

The recently renovated Maltz Performing Arts Center is gorgeous, and it's home for the performing arts at CWRU. Choir, orchestra and other performance groups have their rehearsals and shows here. Also, the Think Forum lecture series and Writers Center Stage happen here, bringing household-name speakers to campus for free.

Wade Oval

Wade Oval is the hub of University Circle culture, where you can literally spin around and see some of America's best museums, among them: the Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum of Natural History, Botanical Gardens and Western Reserve Historical Society. With our student ID, we visit these places without paying for tickets, and I've had classes and group projects here, too. Also within Wade Oval, are free outdoor movies and concerts each week in the spring and summer.

First-Year Residential Quad

The North Residential Village is home to first-year students. Each hall has a lounge area with couches, a flat-screen TV and a game table. There is a kitchen for making your own snacks and meals, too. And there's a laundry room on the first floor of every residence hall.

Campus Dining

Leutner Commons is located in the heart of the North Residential Village and is the main dining hall for first-year students. Dining halls are buffet-style with tons of fresh, made-to-order choices and local ingredients. Each year, 8 tons of food served in our dining halls are grown just 10 miles from campus at the University Farm. Below the main dining area is Lower Level Leutner, also known as L3. We can order a meal after hours by using an app and pick it up on our way back to our residence hall.

DiSanto Field

DiSanto Field is the home of the Spartans football and men's and women's soccer teams. We are a Division III school sponsoring 19 varsity athletic teams. Club and intramural teams are very popular, with everything from Crew to Ultimate Frisbee and tennis to intramural battleship, which we play in the university's indoor pool. On the north side of campus, at the end of DiSanto Field is the Wyant Athletic and Wellness Center--three stories of weight rooms, cardio machines, meeting areas and more.

Uptown

Uptown is two blocks from the first-year residence halls and is where we go for restaurants, bowling, yoga, and one of my favorite places: Mitchell's Ice Cream! Right down the road from Uptown, is Little Italy. From there, a train will get you downtown in 20 minutes, or to the airport. With our student IDs, we have access to all public transportation in Cleveland.

Health Care Community

Nursing students earn more than 1,350 clinical hours. Cleveland is a prime location for those of us studying health sciences. Within one mile are three major hospitals--Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and the Cleveland VA Medical Center--where we do our clinical hours, have shadowing opportunities, research positions and more.

Hovorka Atrium

Hovorka Atrium is named for Frank Hovorka, a former CWRU professor and head of the chemistry department. Here is our Nobel Prize Wall of Fame, featuring our alumni and faculty who have won--16 in all! You can see the first American to win the prize, Albert Michelson. In 2017, economist Richard H. Thaler became our most recent Nobel Prize winner--in economic science.

Look up. This turbine currently is being used to test blade coatings and their response to changing weather conditions. This is just one of the many areas in which our professors conduct research--giving our undergraduate students opportunities for first-hand experience in research labs. Research is a big part of our lives here, and 84% of undergrads pursue research and creative endeavors.

Sears think[box] is our innovation center. It's 7 stories and 50,000 square feet. think[box] offers tons of opportunities for us to make our ideas real. We have the best 3-D printers and laser cutters available. There's a wood shop. And a metal shop. And a patent office on the 7th floor. We come here to work on all kinds of projects, from world-changing tech to jewelry for mom's birthday! Did I mention that it's free?

Sears Circuit Laboratory

The Sears Undergraduate Design Lab is home to our circuits lab, and is part of the engineering core classes. Here, we work in groups to design circuits and get our hands on a fully stocked electrical component supply. Outside of class projects, we can use this space and supplies to design our own projects. This is something you see a lot of at CWRU--an open environment and collaborative atmosphere.

The Case Quad is a hub of activity on campus.
