Sayles Hill Campus Center

The pulse of campus is right here at Sayles Hill Campus Center, a frequent destination for the entire Carleton community. There are several practical reasons to stop here; it's home to the campus Bookstore, Post Office and Career Center. You can also spend some downtime in the TV Lounge or meet up with friends at the Sayles Hill Cafe for a panini, salad, sushi, or a fresh pastry and a cappuccino. Sayles Hill is also home to the largest student organization on campus: Radio Station KRLX.

Leighton Hall

Leighton Hall is where you might come to attend an Anthropology class or panel discussion, catch up with a professor, or to pay your tuition. You can explore opportunities to take your education on the road from Chicago to Sri Lanka at the Off-Campus Studies Office. You can also drop in to the Print Center to make copies, bind long documents, or create a flyer or banner for an upcoming event.

Laurence McKinley Gould Library

Laurence McKinley Gould Library (affectionately called "The Libe") is the reference hub of campus. Its collections include more than 563,000 books and close to 40,000 electronic journals, as well as thousands of print journals, government publications, special collection volumes and media. A range of study spaces is available throughout the library, from open tables to group study rooms and classrooms. Students will find computers on the third and fourth floors for work and external research. Also, the Library's Athenaeum is a popular venue for readings, discussions and other special events.

Laird Hall

Many Carleton students will report to the second and third floors of Laird Hall for English class, from Introduction-level courses to Advanced Seminars. The Hall also serves as a base for college leadership including the Office of the President and Dean and other key staff.

Boliou Hall

Carleton's well-rounded students are bound, at some point, to explore Boliou Memorial Hall for an art class or seminar. Carleton's Art and Art History Departments are based here, providing studio and class spaces, an auditorium, woodshop and a Visual Resources Library to support their programming. Though the building has undergone several renovations since its debut in 1949, its bold, modern design has been maintained. Carleton art students and enthusiasts can also visit the Perlman Teaching Museum, located in the Weitz Center for Creativity, to explore the College's permanent collection and the latest exhibit openings.

Olin Hall of Sciences

Olin Hall of Sciences, along with neighboring Hulings Hall and Mudd Hall, make up Carleton's Science Complex. Olin is one of five structures on campus designed by legendary architect Minoru Yamasaki, whose extensive portfolio included the World Trade Center towers. The departments of Astronomy, Physics and Psychology are headquartered here. The Physics and Astronomy Instrument Shop is located in Mudd Hall.

Hulings Hall

This is Hulings Hall. Hulings is one of a trio of facilities (joined by the adjacent Olin Hall and Mudd Hall) that comprise the Science Complex. Here you'll find the labs and faculty offices of the Department of Biology. In addition to Huling's onsite resources, the Department has access to the 880-acre Cowling Arboretum right here on campus, as well as the nearby McKnight Prairie for hands-on research and instruction.

Skinner Memorial Chapel

Skinner Memorial Chapel, constructed in 1916, is another of Carleton's buildings included on the National Register of Historic Places. The clay and limestone Chapel, facing the town, serves as a place of reflection, worship and dialogue for students of all faiths. You might come here to meditate or attend a Convocation, concert, wedding or conference.

Willis Hall

Willis Hall was the first building to open its doors on campus in 1872, and is included on the National Register of Historic Places. Today the iconic Hall houses the offices of Economics and Political Science. It's also home to Write Place, a student-run center that connects you with a knowledgeable tutor to assist with your writing process. You'll be reminded of Willis Hall when you hear its hourly clock chime throughout campus.

Burton Hall

Burton Hall is a multipurpose building. Its upper floors are home to a coed mix of freshman and upperclassmen, and it houses one of Carleton's two primary dining facilities on the ground floor. Burton residents enjoy central community lounges on each of the upper floors, as well as shared kitchen and direct access to Sayles-Hill Campus Center and Davis and Sevy halls.
