The British School of Bucharest is an established, well-resourced international private school in Romania's capital, Bucharest. The school provides a comprehensive international education based on the National Curriculum for England and serves more than 500 students aged 2 to 18 from 50 nationalities. Our Early Years Foundation Stage framework sets standards for the learning, development and care of young children to help them experience the best possible start in life. The British School of Bucharest focuses on developing the 'whole child' by tailoring teaching to each individual child's needs. We provide opportunities for children to develop their abilities and talents in a playful environment where they feel safe, secure and happy. Our classrooms and outdoor playgrounds include specific learning areas with educational materials in place that stimulate all senses. Every activity leads to a child's academic, social and personal development, whether initiated by the child or the teacher.

Our Primary programme offers a broad and balanced curriculum for 5- to 11-year-olds and is taught entirely in English by 100% native English-speaking teachers. English and Mathematics are taught daily, and through Science, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Digital Literacy, Drama and Music, children learn while developing their creativity and physical expression. Having high self-esteem and respect for others are also important considerations and we encourage children to take more responsibility for themselves and others during their Primary years. Our classrooms are full of engaging activities within a calm atmosphere that supports learning, and our school has an excellent student to staff ratio.

At the British School of Bucharest, we enhance the curriculum with an extensive and varied co-curricular programme, which includes our unique BSB University courses to further personalise and enrich learning for our Primary students. We offer over 100 co-curricular activities – there is always something for every pupil to enjoy. Students can try new sports, pursue interests or service opportunities, and enjoy art, craft and music projects. They can take academic extension classes in debate, writing or computer skills, as well as enjoy cooking, mathematical games and much more. Through these many activities, pupils can find true life-long passions and gain confidence to achieve highly in all areas of life.

At the British School of Bucharest we aim for all students to benefit from the school Music Department's varied facilities and develop their skills in musical performance, analysis and composition. We engage and challenge students with a variety of practical tasks using a wide range of instruments and by studying music from a broad spectrum of cultures. It is our view that all students have musical potential and we make sure that even those who do not choose to study music to a higher level can fully enjoy the subject and, while doing so, develop useful cross-curricular skills, such as coordination and teamwork.

British School of Bucharest teaching staff consistently promote a healthy lifestyle, reflected in our Physical Education lessons and co-curricular activities. We extend these activities substantially using several nearby facilities in addition to our dome, gyms and impressive outdoor facilities on campus. Our school's main sports are football, basketball, swimming and athletics. All students learn a wide variety of skills within Physical Education lessons or co-curricular activities while actively developing important values and life skills, such as fair play, cooperation, teamwork and respect. Students have the opportunity for personal achievement through competitive sports including many Inter-House and Inter-School matches and competitions throughout the year.

At our school, Art is important. We support pupils to develop their creativity, and seek opportunities in all school years for the perfect combination of rigorous academic results and a creative environment. Our high-quality Art facilities are open to students all day; the creativity on display reflects the great talents of students and teachers alike. Art specialist tutors mentor students to explore visual fine arts, photography and design, with the emphasis firmly on student-generated ideas and projects. During IGCSE and A level Art, we encourage students to find their own identity through their work, resulting in increasingly personal creative output and the ability to reach top Art university destinations.

Design and innovation play a key role in society. Design and Technology, as a subject, encourages students to develop concepts through to completion via various processes. Students combine practical and technological skills with creative thinking and problem solving to design and manufacture finished products. The BSB Innovation Hub is unique to the British School of Bucharest and our students thoroughly enjoy gaining real-life experiences that bring together teamwork and competition. The Hub promotes innovation in school by combining Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Mathematics and other disciplines, in practical, hands-on courses. Here, students can go further with design projects to develop their learning at undergraduate level.
