Shapiro Student Center

Whether you want to get up a game of ultimate Frisbee, stage a march on Washington, or practice your debate skills, you'll find plenty of kindred spirits at Brandeis. At the heart of this dynamic social life is the Shapiro Campus Center. The Shapiro Campus center is open to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It houses a cafe, student art exhibition gallery, rehearsal spaces, meeting rooms for the over 250 clubs on campus, a computer library, a 250-seat undergraduate theater and even a cozy fireplace. Here you will also find our media groups including Brandeis Television, WBRS - the campus radio station and multiple other publications.

Louis Brandeis Statue

Our university's namesake, Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis was dubbed the "people's attorney" for his frequent defense of social justice, individual rights and for his pattern of curbing the abuses of power by big business and other entrenched societal interests. This statue represents Justice Brandeis standing against the winds of adversity in his quest for an egalitarian society.

Shapiro Science Center

Shapiro Science Center completed in 2009. The five-story center features 12 teaching and research labs, two classrooms and a 3-D visualization projector. The center also includes a two-level electronic library, conference rooms and spaces for faculty-student discussions. Alongside state-of-the-art equipment, the Shapiro Science Center was designed with environmental sustainability in mind, and the building utilizes daylight-harvesting technology, heat-recovery systems and earth-friendly paints and adhesives.

Rose Art Museum

The Rose Art Museum houses the largest collection of modern art in New England and one of the finest collections in all of America. Housing works by artists such as Marc Chagall and Andy Warhol the Rose seeks to disseminate knowledge of modern and contemporary art in an effort to enrich educational, cultural, and artistic communities regionally, nationally, and internationally. Admission is free to students, and the museum also offers high-level internships for those interested in museum work, studio art and art history. Students can even rent various pieces to hang in their residence hall rooms for a rental fee of only $5.

Mandel Humanitites Building

The brand-new Mandel Center for the Humanities speaks to Brandeis's commitment to the study of the human condition. The four-story building houses a 100-seat theater, a tiered lecture hall, seminar rooms, open-office workstations, a reading room and even a roof garden. The building also symbolizes Brandeis's commitment to an interdisciplinary liberal arts leaning environment.

International Business School

Students can meet up for group work or come to just get ahead in their reading in one of the multiple computer clusters and teamwork spaces in the International Business School. Collaboration among students is common and encouraged at Brandeis, as undergraduates often form study groups to prepare for exams together and share their knowledge to help other students understand the material.

Shapiro Science Cntr Biology Lab

Led by professor Michael Rosbash, a Howard Hughes Medical Investigator, this biology lab seeks to understand sleep disorders by studying fruit flies, whose daily sleep cycle is regulated by the same circadian clock that controls human sleep. The lab is part of the National Center for Behavioral Genomics, which studies how genes and their expression interact with neuronal network function to produce complex behaviors. At Brandeis, both undergraduate and graduate students work closely with renowned faculty on research projects.
