The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) was founded in 1963 and is one of 25 colleges within the City University of New York (CUNY) System. As the largest community college in New York, BMCC serves more than 22,000 students from over 155 different countries, speaking 112 languages. New Yorkers and those abroad choose BMCC because of the high-quality learning, low educational costs, and of course the incredible location. Icarus Plaza is the walkway leading to the front of the main campus building at 199 Chambers St. The plaza is a frequent hangout spot for students to hear the vibrant New York streets or enjoy the picturesque skyline. Note that when you enter the main entrance at 199 Chambers St, you are now on the second floor of the building.

At BMCC, students can choose from over 50 leading associate degree programs that transfer easily to a bachelor's program or successful career. BMCC is ranked #1 in New York for awarding associate degrees in the areas of: Business, Computer and Information Sciences, Computer Technology, Criminal Justice and Education. BMCC is dedicated to promoting research and scholarly study among STEM fields. Students participate in faculty-mentored scientific research and innovative coursework that make the transition to a four-year college seamless. These studies are conducted in core research laboratories which engage students in disciplines including biological sciences, engineering sciences, chemistry and physics.

The Derfner Communications Skills Lab is a creative space where students learn voice and diction, oral interpretation, public speaking, the mass media and interpersonal communication. These lifelong tools help students express their talent and intelligence—whether in a conversation, interview, classroom or boardroom presentation.

The BMCC Library, located on the fourth floor at 199 Chambers Street, is named after the African-American labor leader and social activist A. Philip Randolph (1889-1979). The Library is a valuable campus service that offers students a wealth of resources including study rooms, article databases, assistive technology, access to iPads and laptops. The library also has more than 130,000 volumes of books, 100+ print magazine/journals, 80,000+ electronic journals and 185,000+ electronic books. As a bonus, BMCC students are entitled to full library privileges at all CUNY colleges.

On the top level of the library, you will find the Learning Resource Center which offers free tutoring services in a variety of subjects, during the day, evening and on weekends.

BMCC's NJCAA Division III & CUNYAC intercollegiate teams rank top among all community colleges. Teams include women's - basketball, volleyball, soccer and men's - basketball, baseball, soccer. The BMCC athletic program is a Commissioners Cup Champion. You can often find the BMCC cheerleaders and Manny the Panther mascot cheering the team on from the sidelines.

BMCC students, faculty and staff enjoy staying healthy and having fun during free intramural and recreational activities including volleyball, tennis, table tennis, soccer, yoga, Zumba and Badminton. You can also find them busting a sweat in the fitness center which is equipped with weight training equipment and aerobic machines.

The BMCC campus is alive with innovative programs to make college an enriching and exciting experience. Whether it's leadership opportunities, joining a student club or organization, attending an event, or doing community service, the Office of Student Activities help students get involved on and off campus. The Advocacy and Resource Center provides students with free, confidential support and resources to help them address barriers to attending and completing school. This includes assistance with health insurance, legal services, tax preparation, housing and food. BMCC students facing a food emergency can visit the Panther Pantry in the Advocacy and Resource Center to take home a three-day supply of nutritionally balanced, nonperishable food.

The Early Childhood Center is a nationally accredited and licensed child care program for preschool and school-age children of BMCC student-parents. The center offers flexible evening and weekend hours to support student-parents who have demanding schedules. Child care services are based on the students' income. Fiterman Hall

The original Fiterman Hall was built in 1959, and donated to CUNY on behalf of BMCC in 1993 by Miles and Shirley Fiterman. The building was irreparably damaged in 2001 when World Trade 7 fell against it, in the attacks of 9/11. Fiterman Hall was later rebuilt into a 14-story building and houses a world-class, fine arts center and public café, as well as approximately 80 smart classrooms and computer laboratories, offices, library spaces, bike storage, student lounges, music ensemble rooms and a rooftop conference center. Fiterman Hall overlooks the World Trade Center site and Memorial Park, with scenic windows spanning several floors. The Shirley Fiterman Art Center is free of charge and open to the public. The gallery organizes exhibitions of contemporary art and cultural programming to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of visual arts and its role in society. Working with the college's academic arts programs, the Center also showcases BMCC student and faculty work throughout the year. Music Ensemble

The BMCC music ensembles are not only exceptional performance ensembles; they are interactive learning laboratories for music education students. Vocal and instrumental students hone their performance skills. Students have opportunities to rehearse and receive guidance and feedback from the conductor and ensemble members.
