Welcome to Berea College, home of the Mountaineers! Founded in 1855 by abolitionist John Gregg Fee, Berea made history as the first college in the Southern U.S. to educate all students, regardless of race or gender. To this day, the top-ranking liberal arts institution provides full scholarships to all of its students. Though most Berea students are from Appalachia, others hail from 40 states and 70 countries around the world. Join me now, and explore just a few of the highlights of this unique, 140-acre campus in Berea, Kentucky.

Here we are at the Rogers and Traylor Buildings, which opened their doors in 1934. The nearly 35,000-square-foot (and expanding) facilities are home to Berea's Art Department. Students and faculty have access to classrooms, studios and an auditorium onsite, as well as a trio of galleries where they can share their work with the art-savvy Berea community.

Though built in 1905, the Frost Building is a fully modernized facility, providing instructional space for several of Berea's Social Science departments. The centrally-located building is also home to the Convocations Office.

You're looking at Lincoln Hall. This building is both a National Historic Landmark and the first building in the state of Kentucky to receive LEED certification. The Hall, built in 1885-1887 provides 23,400 square feet of space for the college's administrative offices. In addition to the offices of the President, Academic Vice President and Provost, Lincoln houses the offices of Financial Aid, Accounts Payable and Academic Services, among others.

Originally the college's Home Economics Center, the Emery Building now serves as home base for the Child and Family Studies Department. In addition to classrooms, the building features targeted labs and libraries, design facilities and faculty offices. The department operates additional on-campus facilities to give students real-world training, including the Child Development Laboratory and the Harrison McLain Home Management House.

This is the Bruce-Trades Building. Here you'll find the Appalachian Center, the Entrepreneurship for the Public Good Program and the TRIO Programs. The back half of the Bruce building, constructed in 1903, was first used as a location for Berea's industrial classes. The front half of the building, added four years later, housed the Berea College press and seasonal residential quarters. The two were connected in 1920, and expanded yet again in 1999 and 2001, when the building joined the Trades Building. The connector between the buildings includes a kitchen and lounge.

Welcome to the Seabury Center – Berea's mecca of wellness and events. Up to 2,000 fans can come here to cheer the Mountaineers' basketball and volleyball teams, and the same facility expands to seat 3,000 for large-scale events. The college community can also take advantage of the Center's indoor track, natatorium, and all-weather tennis courts.

The Charles M. Hall Science building is home to the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Health & Safety, and Physics. The 50,100-square-foot facility features more than state-of-the-art labs and classrooms; it also houses a geology museum, an observatory and a planetarium, as well as a Foucault Pendulum.

The Draper Building is one of Berea's primary classroom buildings. The 52,000-square-foot facility is where you'll intersect with other Mountaineers on their way to an Asian Studies, Communication, or Economics class. The building's interior features a fully-wired language lab, offices, class and reading rooms, and the Campus Christian Center. The building's exterior features an 11-ton, 56-bell carillon – the largest in the state.

Hutchins Library, built in 1967, houses a host of digital and print reference materials, with some rare historical audio and video items in the mix. The Library also provides a diverse array of study and meeting spaces for students, from individual study carrels to multimedia classrooms. Students of Mathematics & Computer Science will find a specialized lab here at the Library, and all students will find helpful TA's and tutors here as well.

Berea Students were responsible for the construction of Phelps Stokes Chapel. Funds were provided by one of the country's first independent female philanthropists, Miss Olivia Egleston Phelps Stokes. The Chapel opened its doors in 1906 and has served as a campus gathering place for more than a century. You might also come to the Chapel for an African American Studies or Women's Studies class.
