Welcome to Bemidji State University. My name is Emily, and I'll be your tour guide today. Before we get started, let me explain the many ways you can explore our beautiful campus. You can click on the front-facing arrow to start walking around. You also can jump to the Next Stop by clicking on the Next Stop button. If you already know where you want to go, you can select any location by using the drop-down list OR by clicking directly on the map. Lastly, remember that you can explore any particular location in more detail by clicking on the 360, Photos, or Video icons. We're beginning our tour at the Alumni Arch. The arch is one of BSU's most recognizable landmarks, and it also serves as a gateway to the entire campus. Founded in 1919, BSU is one of Minnesota's premier learning institutions, with about 5,000 students, more than 60 undergraduate majors and eight graduate programs.
Deputy Hall

Deputy Hall is home to the university's administrative offices, including Admissions, Financial Aid and the International Program Center. The International Program Center works with universities around the world to provide study-abroad optionsfor BSU students on six continents. Deputy Hall is also home to a brand new home for the Mass Communications program, whose students produce content for the university's radio and television stations and a news magazine and its website.
Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex

The Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex is a nationally recognized center for the performing arts. It features the 300-seat Thompson Recital Hall, an experimental theatre and rehearsal studios for speech, theatre and music.

Right next to Deputy Hall is Memorial Hall, which was built as a gymnasium in 1940. After a total renovation, this classic building reopened in 2015 as the state-of-the-art home to BSU's Business Administration and Accountancy programs. Its interactive technology and flexible classrooms promote group study and hands-on learning. The beautiful and energy-efficient renovation has made Memorial Hall a popular study spot for all students.

A glass staircase at the rear of Memorial Hall overlooks Lake Bemidji, whose shoreline forms the east border of the university. The BSU campus features a wraparound bike trail and the nationally recognized Outdoor Program Center, which provides equipment and guidance for kayaking, sailing, skiing, camping and more. The center is in beautiful Diamond Point Park, a great place for swimming, picnicking, boating or a stroll among towering pines.

To a campus newcomer, BSU's student union may seem like two separate buildings, divided into the Lower Hobson Union and the Upper Hobson Union. But they're actually connected underground. In the Lower Union, students can enjoy great food from the Lakeside Food Court and Einstein Bros. Bagels, and the Upper Union features a new EcoGrounds coffee bar. The BSU Bookstore in the Lower Union sells textbooks, school supplies and other essentials, an impressive selection of BSU fan gear.

The A.C. Clark Library at the heart of campus is a sanctuary for serious study and research. It has nearly 400,000 on-campus holdings, nearly a quarter-million books and collections of government publications, audio-visual materials, maps and microforms. From anywhere on campus, students can instantly access comprehensive online research tools such as electronic indexes and full-text journal article databases.

The Upper Hobson Union is a gathering place for student clubs and organizations and is also home to the Beaux Arts Ballroom, a popular meeting space for BSU's many and varied events, from new student registration to the annual Madrigal Dinner theatre, where costumed singers recreate a holiday feast in merry old England.

Construction of a new, modern academic learning center, Hagg Sauer Hall, is currently underway. The new building, to be finished in the fall of 2020, will be equipped with advanced technology resources and a variety of flexible classrooms designed to promote collaboration and actively engage students in learning.

Bridgeman Hall is home to the university's School of Technology, Art and Design, which includes the exhibit design program, one of only two of its kind in the country, as well as majors in graphic design, visual art and applied engineering. Outside Bridgeman is the Pergola, an idyllic spot to socialize, study and relax between classes.

American Indian Resource Center

The American Indian Resource Center is steeped in Native American pride, culture and tradition. The center is homebase for many native students and features a computer lab, lounge, kitchen, conference rooms and the spacious Gathering Room. BSU has Minnesota's first Indian Studies program and the first collegiate Ojibwe language program in the entire world.

Chet Anderson Stadium is the home field for BSU football and soccer. For 20 years, whenever the Beavers win a Homecoming football game, players and coaches run from the field straight into Lake Bemidji while singing the BSU fight song. The team's winning Homecoming record has meant a lot of lake plunges over the year.

Looking east across Lake Bemidji, students can see the Sanford Center arena, home to the BSU men's and women's Division I hockey teams. Beaver Hockey has a championship tradition, and on game nights, there's no place more fun and exciting than the student section around BSU's home goal. The arena also hosts big-name shows and special events – and the Bemidji State commencement ceremony each May.

BSU's residence hall buildings are all named for trees. And they're all tobacco-free, like the entire campus. Wally's Dining Center in Walnut Hall offers all-you-can-eat meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week, and the Upper Deck restaurant is ideal for a late meal or snack. Also in Walnut Hall are The Lodge, a convenience store, and the Housing and Residence Life office. There's even a small game-cleaning room, convenient after a hunting trip.

This is Oak Hall, home to first-year students and part of BSU's First-Year Residential Experience program, otherwise known as FYRE. A typical room in Oak measures about 17 feet by 10 feet and accommodates two twin beds and two chairs with desks. Cable television is provided, and wireless printing to the front desk is available. In total, BSU offers seven housing options, with single double and triple rooms, as well as fully furnished three- and four-bedroom apartments and another apartment building for single parents. A combination of kitchenettes, tutoring services and common living areas are available in each hall.

Birch Hall, which has both doubles and singles, is close to academic buildings and a sought-after home for upperclass students. It offers a stunning view of the lake and stadium. Residence halls and academic buildings at BSU are connected by the Beaver Trail, a network of tunnels and skywalks so students can stay warm and dry during wet and chilly weather.

University Heights adds a brand new dimension to housing for upperclass students. It has four floors of fully furnished, full-service three- and four-bedroom apartments, each with kitchen, big-screen TV, washer-dryer and two large bathrooms. Coed groupings are allowed.

The Gillett Wellness Center is a hub of activity surrounding wellness, fitness and fun, including many intramural sports. The center features a 200-meter indoor track, five racquetball courts, two weight rooms, a six-lane pool, dance studio, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, and a 30-foot climbing wall -- all free to residential students. BSU's indoor track and field and tennis teams compete here.
