Welcome to New York! Our office is located in the iconic Bank of America building right here in the heart of Manhattan. We have a strong and vibrant presence here and the office is home to a number of the firm's key practices including corporate, financial restructuring, investment management, labor and employment, private equity, litigation, tax, and intellectual property. New York is one of the many locations we have worldwide, yet we are one firm and we are always networking and collaborating with our colleagues in other offices, doing exceptional work for sophisticated clients while becoming better lawyers. It's exciting to be able to work with clients who trust us with their most important legal and business matters. The firm's steadfast commitment to diversity and inclusion can be seen inside and outside the firm. It is embedded into our philosophy, practice, and culture. Through our firmwide resource groups, local office inclusion councils, and partnerships with diverse organizations, law school affinity groups and our local community, we strive to be a firm where everyone can succeed. Our Inclusion Councils meet on a regular basis and include lawyers at all levels who come together to discuss the office's strategy and involvement both inside and outside the firm. Welcome to Jeff Kochian's office, a partner in our Corporate practice group and just one of many of our partner mentors within the firm. Mentoring relationships are in the fabric of Akin Gump's structure and we offer formal mentoring programs for lawyers at various stages of their career.

In the span of a single generation, Akin Gump has grown to a firm of over 900 lawyers spanning the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. With that comes unrivaled opportunities to learn, to shadow, to collaborate, and to contribute. There are many opportunities for junior lawyers to develop skills in their practice areas on a daily basis. Some of these are through training programs hosted by the firm, but it also comes from hands-on experiences, such as client conference calls, like the one here.

The firm's leadership is committed to sharing its strategy and vision internally so that we can all work towards achieving the same goals for our clients. Our chairperson, Kim Koopersmith, hosts town halls with lawyers and business services professionals throughout the year to provide information about the firm and where we are headed. She also meets with a firmwide associates committee comprised of associate and counsel representatives from each office to hear what is on their minds and share further insight on the firm's plans and initiatives.

Exciting, fulfilling legal careers for junior lawyers can start with Akin Gump's summer program. During the program, you'll work side by side with our lawyers to solve important problems for real clients. Through assignments, training, mentoring, teamwork and networking activities, you'll learn more about the law, the firm, our lawyers, as well as yourself. Our program gives you a strong foundation to start your legal career and provides you with the tools you need to be successful. The firm is fully committed to pro bono and providing legal services to those most in-need. We don't just walk the walk when it comes to providing these services. Our pro bono hours are considered billable, just as they are for commercial clients, and lawyers are given plenty of opportunities to contribute to causes that are important to them. We partner with numerous legal services organizations, who we have longstanding relationships with, and we work on some of their most sensitive and important matters. This work often provides training opportunities to our lawyers who represent the clients and can be given lead roles on cases. The New York Pro Bono Committee is meeting here to discuss their current cases and new matters within the office.
