Welcome to Veterans Memorial High School! VMHS is the Corpus Christi Independent School District’s newest high school and is home to the Veterans Memorial Eagles. VMHS is a state-of-the art campus with a number of amenities, including athletic facilities and a 900+ seat auditorium. Foyer & Rotunda

When you walk into Veterans Memorial High School, you will enter through the front foyer and rotunda of the school. From here you can truly see how large and beautiful our facility is. This area is the “heart of the school”. Students can access different areas of the school quickly from this central location. The rotunda acts as a central point for students who are transitioning between classes, lunch and other activities. The Rotunda also has study collaborative spaces. From this central area you can access VMHS athletics, fine arts, the media center, cafeteria and classrooms.

Media Center

The VMHS Media Center has more than 9,600 square feet with a dedicated area for online research that includes access to 30 computer workstations and additional plug-in stations for personal devices. Additionally, the Media Center contains an impressive collection of flexible spaces including two areas designated for classroom space equipped with a smart board, flex space for professional learning for teachers, and three separate study areas. The Media Center shelving holds approximately 14,000 books.

Cafeteria

The VMHS Cafeteria is styled as a multipurpose use area that can be utilized for a variety of meetings in addition to daily student lunches. Students can take a break and nourish while still remaining connected. Daily, CCISD Food Services provides a variety of nutritious meals and food choices. When the cafeteria is not serving lunch or breakfast it’s a great spot for campus clubs, organizations and extracurricular groups to gather for meetings and other activities.

Classroom Wing

The Veterans Memorial High School classroom wings are designed to group students in small learning communities...to give that feel of a small school setting. Each wing provides lots of open, collaboration space for small group studies and project based learning opportunities as well as computers and personal device hook-ups for research and group projects. Students will find that the classroom wings will be areas of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and technology-rich hubs. Also near the classroom wings, are three Art Rooms equipped with ceramic kilns for creating art projects such as pottery. Finally, six business labs are equipped with computer work stations for approximately 30 students each.

Science Labs

Each small learning community includes three science labs: physics, chemistry and biology. Each lab is designated and designed with that particular subject in mind and equipped with materials and supplies to experience science in a real-world setting. Each group of science labs has a Preparation Room and Chemical Storage area. The science labs continue the collaborative atmosphere by including the class and lab in one room. Teachers can transition from teaching about cells to students dissecting cells through a microscope without the need for students to leave the classroom. The integration of smart board technology in each science lab provides additional methods in which students can learn science through hands-on experience.

Athletics

Veterans Memorial High School offers a complete spectrum of competition athletic opportunities for students. We are currently located in the 1,500 seat-capacity Competition Gym. In addition, the school has a 500-seat capacity auxiliary gym and both facilities are used for games and practices for varsity and sub-varsity sports. Additional amenities include, locker, weight and training rooms, and coaching areas with viewing labs. The 5,000 square foot Weight Room is equipped with premier workout equipment to aid trainers and athletes. The Training Room is outfitted with rehab and flexibility equipment and the latest treatment methods in caring for athletes. Outside, you will find softball, baseball, soccer, and football practice fields as well as tennis courts and a track.

Fine Arts

As you make your way to the Fine Arts area of VMHS you will notice separate areas for band, choral and theatre arts. The Band and Orchestra room has three rehearsal spaces--Main Room, Large Ensemble Room, and Percussion Room; all areas are soundproof so groups can practice simultaneously. There is a separate Guitar Room with storage space for up to 150 guitars. Inside the Choral Room you will find two practice rooms and a music library. Finally, the state-of-the-art Black Box Theatre is utilized daily for classroom instruction as well as an area for small theatrical performances. All Fine Arts classrooms have easy access to the VMHS Auditorium and stage, which we will explore next.

Auditorium

The jewel of VMHS is this 900+ seat capacity auditorium. The Auditorium is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology which includes a UIL compliant Control Room and stage. It is one of only two facilities in the City of Corpus Christi to have a state-of-the-art theatrical rigging system for scenery sets. Adjacent to the Auditorium is a fully outfitted, large-set construction room for students to create and assemble sets for various performances. The stunning lobby includes an additional vestibule area for small-group performances.
