Hello Walk

Welcome to University of Idaho, home to the Vandals! Let's take a look around this very special place: this is the Hello Walk. It is one of the best-known walkways on campus. The Hello Walk is a Vandal Family tradition. It was named as an ode to former U of I President Alfred Upham*'s enthusiasm for greeting students as they crossed paths back in the 1920s. Vandals carry on this tradition today, saying a friendly "hello" to everyone we pass. Admin Auditorium

Built in 1907, the Administration Building is where you'll find the President's Office and the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences. This is our largest college with over 44 undergraduate degree options in communication, anthropology, political science, psychology, economics and much more. This ivy-clad building is also home to the Administration Auditorium. Mostly a classroom by day, this magnificent space transforms into a concert hall filled with sounds from talented musicians in the Lionel Hampton School of Music. Performances range from student solos to shows by our 200-member Sound of Idaho Marching Band.

This is where creativity happens. Here, students in our nationally accredited architecture program bring their ideas to life. They build their portfolio with real-life projects — from creating concepts for a school in Togo, to designing and building a warming hut in the North Idaho mountains, to developing urban centers in Pacific Northwest cities. Located within the College of Art and Architecture, this architecture space is just one of many studio spaces on campus where you can practice your design and art skills as you prepare for a career in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, virtual technology, art or design.

The Idaho Student Union Building (or ISUB) is a hub of activity and the heart of campus life. You can grab a bite at the food court or cup of coffee, study in a quiet lounge space or connect with friends between classes. You'll likely find live music, student art exhibits and special events happening here. The ISUB is home to the Department of Student Involvement, where you can connect to student clubs and activities. The Career Center and Honors Program are also located in this busy building.

Our recently remodeled Library is a great place to get your study on. Our library is also the state's largest, housing well over two million print volumes and providing access to hundreds of thousands of ebooks, electronic journals, databases and streaming media. The library is your gateway to reference and research assistance, the Writing Center, tutoring services and other free resources, including a recording studio, three computer labs, and much more. It's also home to the Making, Innovating and Learning Laboratory — or the MILL for short — where you can use a 3D printer, green screen and other technologies for class projects.

Welcome to the Kibbie Dome, where Vandal spirit is strong on game day. U of I is home to 16 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams in football, volleyball, basketball, swimming, baseball, soccer, track and more. Our name, the Vandals, was earned nearly a century ago by a U of I basketball team coached by Hec Edmundson, whose teams played defense with such intensity and ferocity that sports writers said they ""vandalized"" their opponents. Joe Vandal, our official mascot, keeps Vandal fans cheering and smiling with his game-day shenanigans.

Two out of three U of I students participate in undergraduate research — exploring everything from digital arts to cybersecurity to politics to hard science. The Integrated Research and Innovation Center (or IRIC) is our premier research facility located at the center of campus. Scanville Cybersecurity Laboratory

U of I is the only university in Idaho — and one of the first in the country — to offer a cybersecurity bachelor's degree program. Here in the Scanville CyberSecurity Lab, students have direct access to tools and equipment used to simulate and defend against realistic cyberattacks. These technical exercises are one of many ways students learn to protect digital data and important systems from dangerous threats. U of I is leading the U.S. in cybersecurity training and research. In fact, we are one of the National Security Agency's first seven National Centers of Academic Excellence in cyber defense education.

Recognized as one of the "Best Student Recreation Centers" in America, this facility has basketball and racquet courts, a state-of-the-art weight room, cardio equipment and fitness classes. The Rec Center is also home to a 55-foot climbing wall, one of the highest freestanding climbing walls of any college in the country. Ranked a "25 Best Outdoor School in America" by College Reviews, U of I is a gateway to outdoor adventure. Snowmobile

Every year, U of I students are challenged to build a cleaner, more efficient snowmobile. Our Clean Snowmobile Challenge Teams have brought home more than 50 awards from this national competition. The program is part of the College of Engineering, where you can study biological, chemical, civil, computer, mechanical or electrical engineering. Here, you put classroom learning into practice and design engineering solutions for real industry problems. The college ranks among the top seven in the nation by the National Academy of Engineering for bringing real-world experiences into undergraduate engineering education through its Senior Capstone Design Program.

Greek Life has a deep tradition here at U of I. With the university's 34 Greek letter organizations, sorority and fraternity members make up more than 20 percent of the Moscow student population. The Greek community has been a cornerstone of student life since our university was founded more than a century ago, providing members leadership, service, social and scholarship opportunities. WWAMI

Idaho medical students complete their first and second years of medical school in the WWAMI medical education program at University of Idaho. The Idaho WWAMI medical program is Idaho's medical school. Future physicians get hands-on training at teaching facilities like the Gritman Medical Center's new state-of-the-art anatomy lab in downtown Moscow. The WWAMI program is a partnership with the University of Washington School of Medicine and the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho.

Dairy Barn

Here we are at the Dairy Center. With 100 milking cows and an equal number of young stock, this facility is a state leader in student and faculty research on dairy cow lactation physiology, reproduction and nutrition. The Dairy Center is just one of many world-class research facilities in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. With degree programs ranging from animal and veterinary science, to agribusiness or crop science, to nutrition or apparel design, the college offers excellent learning and research opportunities that lead to all types of careers.
