Union Station is one of the most historic and iconic buildings in the Mile High City. Originally built in 1881, the first rendition of the building was destroyed in a fire in 1894. The structure we see today dates back to 1914. A modern transit and commercial hub that draws tourists and locals alike, Union Station is THE heart of downtown Denver, and it's just a quick walk or bike ride from CU Denver's campus. For anyone looking to enjoy a uniquely Denver experience, this historic landmark is a wonderful destination, with plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques offering the best the city has to offer.

Welcome to Larimer Square, "the entryway to the city." This is the historic block where Denver began, and behind its well-preserved, turn-of-the-century storefronts, you will find a modern mix of shops and restaurants. Because of Larimer Square's close proximity to our campus, CU Denver students frequent this area daily, studying at the coffee shops or enjoying a meal in celebration of a hard-earned grade. Larimer Square is where Denver's past and its future can be felt at the very same time.

The mountains aren't the only escape into nature around the Mile High City. Denver is known for more than 5,000 acres of parks right here in the city. No matter where you are, you're likely to be only a few steps away from one of over 200 lush and relaxing green spaces in the city. Popular hangouts for CU Denver students include Confluence Park, Commons Park, City Park, and the historic Cheesman Park.

The gold-domed Colorado State Capitol is one of the most prominent features of Denver's skyline. Situated on the edge of Civic Center Park, the Capitol building houses many Colorado government branches and offices. Many CU Denver alumni who are committed to improving Colorado's future work each day in these houses of government. The official elevation of Denver is measured on the West steps outside the building, where the fifteenth step is engraved with the words "One Mile Above Sea Level." From this step, at 5,280 feet, the sun can be seen setting behind the Rocky Mountains.
Cherry Creek Trail

With over 250 miles of on-street bike lines, paths, and trails - Denver is one of the most bike-friendly cities in the U.S. For cyclists and runners, or anyone eager to get outside, the Cherry Creek trail is a picturesque 40-mile recreational path that is accessible from several spots on campus. Beginning where Cherry Creek flows into the Platte River at Confluence Park, the trail carves through downtown's s urban landscape, and runs through parks and greenspaces as it winds its way to Cherry Creek State Park. Most of the trail is an 8-foot wide concrete path and is commonly used for walking, jogging, biking, dog-walking, and skateboarding.
