Welcome to Roanoke College, where our purpose is to help you find yours. Roanoke College is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college that was founded in 1842. Roanoke has about 2,000 students, and we're proud of our tight-knit community.

Admissions Building

We begin our tour at Roselawn, which was once the traditional home of Roanoke College presidents. Now it houses the Admissions and Financial Aid offices.
Athletics

Athletics is a major source of pride here at Roanoke. The Cregger Center is the main athletic facility on campus. It was completed in 2016, the state-of-the-art, five-story building includes a 2,500-seat arena for our basketball and volleyball teams, a track fieldhouse that includes seating for 5,000 people, an athletic training clinic, locker rooms, athletic department offices and classrooms for students majoring in Health and Exercise Science or Sport Management. It includes the Belk Fitness Center, a spacious workout facility with an amazing view open to students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The building is named for Morris M. Cregger, former chairman of the Roanoke College Board of Trustees and a member of the school's athletic Hall of Fame.
Athletic Quad/Kerr Stadium

Built in 2006, Donald J. Kerr Stadium is home to the men's and women's soccer, lacrosse, and the field hockey program. It can seat 1,400 fans and has state-of-the-art field turf that was installed in 2016. It offers views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and provides intercollegiate, intramural, club and recreational opportunities for all Roanoke College students. It's been named one of the best venues nationwide for lacrosse. Kerr Stadium has played host to the Division III Final Fours for men's and women's soccer and women's lacrosse.
Maxey Hall (Honors Program)

Maxey Hall is, fittingly, our newest residence hall on campus, built in 2012. Living styles include doubles, singles, suites and apartments. Each pod contains a kitchen, men's and women's restrooms, a study room, and a common area. Laundry is located in each room. New Hall also includes our Honors House, where Honors Program students can live, study, and relax with their peers. It is also a "green" building with numerous energy-saving features, being one of two buildings on campus with LEED certification.
Office of Multicultural Affairs

The Office of Multicultural Affairs provides mentorship opportunities, diversity education and inclusion training, and collaborates with a variety of student organizations dedicated to creating a more inclusive campus environment. In addition, the office works with various faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni to further support students. In every facet of life at the College, we seek to create an educational environment and campus experiences that are socially aware, culturally inclusive and globally mindful, and that celebrate diversity, strive for equity and are free from discrimination. We believe that together, we can make real progress. Diversity means all of us!
Colket Student Center

The Colket Center is one of the main hubs of student life. It includes two dining areas, the campus store, the department of student activities, the game room, the college radio station, the esports team's practice and competition space, and mail services. The dining areas include the Sutton Commons, which is the main dining hall, and the Cavern, which is more of a grab-and-go food service. Next to the Colket Center is The Rock, which is essentially the campus message board. Student organizations paint the ten-foot cement monument to promote lectures, performances, sporting events and theme weeks on campus.
Back Quad

While the Front Quad boasts the campus's beauty, the Back Quad is where the fun happens. Many large campus events take place on the Back Quad, including Fridays on the Quad. Fridays on the Quad — FOTQ for short — is a barbeque-style buffet for students, faculty, and staff. It happens every Friday of the fall semester, weather permitting. One of the walkways between the Front Quad and the Back Quad features the Kicking Post, a small concrete obelisk that students kick for good luck. Originally, the Kicking Post was put in place in the 1920s to keep people from driving cars through campus.
Lucas Hall

Lucas Hall houses the Modern Languages Department, which includes everything from Spanish to Mandarin Chinese to Ancient Greek. Lucas Hall was renovated in 2010, and is one of only a few LEED-certified - "green" - educational facilities in the Roanoke area. In addition to offering international languages, Roanoke offers a wide variety of study abroad options, including programs in more than 50 countries and 300 total sites.
Wortmann Complex

The Wortmann Complex includes the Blue Ridge, Shenandoah, and Tabor halls. Freshmen and upperclassmen alike live in these recently updated buildings, which feature great community living. Eighty percent of full-time students live on campus. All of the dorms have air conditioning, and they all include secure keycard entry. You can take a look inside one of our dorm rooms at this stop. Each room comes with a bed, dresser, wardrobe, desk and desk chair.
Administration Building

The Administration Building is the oldest building on campus, built in 1848. It's been designated as a Virginia Historical Landmark. It houses the offices of the president, the dean of the college, the registrar's office, and others. You'll see the college's seal on the pavement in front of the building. Students believe that stepping on the seal before you've graduated is bad luck, and it's a tradition to finally step on it after you've graduated.
Life Science Building

The Life Science building houses the biology, biochemistry, and psychology majors. There's a little bit of everything in this building, from the greenhouse on the roof to the cadaver lab inside the building. A wide range of technology, including confocal microscopes and a 3D printer are at your disposal.
Morehead Hall

Morehead Hall contains the Chaplain's Office, International Education, and the Center for Civic Engagement. Roanoke is the second oldest Lutheran college in the nation, and many students are active in campus ministry. The international office provides a wide variety of programs and support services to students who wish to study abroad and to students from around the world who are studying on our campus. Also, if you want to get involved in community service projects in the Roanoke area, this is the place for you. Even if you aren't involved in any of the programs housed in Morehead Hall, the door and the porch are always open for students.
Outdoor Adventures Room

Roanoke is minutes from the Appalachian Trail, within driving distance of some of the best hiking, biking, rafting and kayaking you'll find. Nearby McAfee Knob is the most photographed spot on the Appalachian Trail, and is a popular go-to spot for students. The Outdoor Adventures program takes advantage of our location to offer an unmatched outdoor program that fosters transformational learning and fun. The program organizes outdoor trips, instructional clinics, special events, and team-building activities. We offer gear rentals for those who want to have an independent adventure. We also offer instructional clinics on campus throughout the academic year such as kayak roll, survival skills, and backcountry cooking.
West Hall

West Hall, which was formerly the Roanoke County Courthouse, houses the departments of business administration and economics, religion and philosophy, and public affairs. Our business programs allow students hands-on experience, and our Fowler Public Policy Lecture Series brings renowned experts in to speak to students. Since 1983, the Fowler program has brought former presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford to campus, as well as former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and other important political and cultural figures. Across the street is Mac and Bob's, a beloved local restaurant founded by Roanoke alumni.
Fintel Library

Welcome to the Fintel Library, named for beloved former College President Dr. Norman Fintel and his wife, Jo. The Goode-Pasfield Center for Learning and Teaching at the library offers tutoring, peer coaching, a writing center, support services and academic advising. The second floor is a quiet area. Whether it's obtaining a specific book or helping you identify resources and develop a complete research plan, you'll find the Fintel Library staff to be extremely helpful. You can also get a caffeine boost or a snack at the library, thanks to the coffee shop on the first floor.
Olin Hall

Olin Hall houses our art, art history, theater, and music programs. Musical opportunities include choir, instrumental ensembles, internships and more. Olin also includes art galleries, which feature the works of emerging and established artists and the work of students. The box office is located in the building, and you can see a wide array of performances from various groups. The stunning courtyard features a variety of trees and attracts all kinds of birds. One tree, a mixture of art and horticulture, includes 40 different kinds of fruit on its limbs. The Antrim Chapel is located just next door, where masses are held every Sunday.

PLACE is the on-campus career center dedicated to helping students find their place through Purpose, Life, And Career Exploration. The offer services such as One-on-One Advising, Alumni Access, Professional Coaching, Resume Building. PLACE is one of the most insightful resources on campus that helps students explore their next steps, and receive career support throughout their entire four years at Roanoke College.
Main Street Salem

Main Street in Salem is home to great restaurants and shopping within walking distance of campus. One of the more popular restaurants is Mac and Bob's, which was founded by Roanoke alumni. Main Street offers just about everything, from grocery shopping to fast food to locally owned businesses to parks to the Salem Museum right down the road.
Downtown Roanoke

Downtown Roanoke is only a 10-minute drive away, and features restaurants, shopping, events, museums, breweries, nightlife and more. Roanoke, known as the Star City, is the biggest city in Southwest Virginia, with its greater metro area including more than 300,000 people.
