Elliott Clock Tower

The Elliott Clock Tower was made possible by a donation from longtime OU supporters, Hugh and Nancy Elliott. Completed in 2014 as a stunning visual centerpiece for campus, it stands at 151 feet tall and has 49 Carillon Bells. The structure became the 14th *carillon tower in Michigan, and only the fourth located on a university campus. The bells will ring every 15 minutes and occasionally play full-length songs, including some holiday favorites. A rallying point for student activities, it's a great spot to meet up with your friends, or to relax and watch the water fountain, which also lights up at night.

Oakland Center (main floor) - Winter Garden

The Oakland Center is the main student center on campus. Not only is this a great place to come hang out with your friends in between classes, it's also a hub of exciting programs and offerings. On the Main Floor, we have dining options including our Pioneer Food Court. On the top floor, we have our newly added Ballrooms where amazing events take place year-round. On the lower level, you will find our campus Bookstore, Office for Student Involvement, Gender and Sexuality Center, and the Student Technology Center. The lower level also holds our Student Congress office, Food Pantry, The Oakland Post, and WXOU 88.3 radio station.

Recreation & Athletics Outdoor Complex

The Recreation and Athletics Outdoor Complex includes a soccer turf, intramural turf fields, 8 lane outdoor track, softball fields, and 8 tennis courts. Nearby is the Grizzly Oaks Disc Golf course! This is where many different sports practices and Intramural games are played. It is a great place to come and support OU's teams, or play a game yourself!

With an open and relaxing environment, Oakland University's Recreation Center is as much a home for the occasional user as for the sports enthusiast. This contemporary 140,000 square foot facility offers something for everyone, no matter your fitness goals. And, the Center is free to all students who are registered for classes. It houses a weight room with more than 100 pieces of exercise equipment; a 50-meter Olympic-sized swimming pool; a diving well and spa; a four-lane, 177-yard indoor track; and fitness classes, including specialty classes like yoga, tai chi, karate, Pilates, aquatics and more. You'll also find various courts, social areas and locker rooms.

O'Rena - Basketball Court

The O'Rena is home to the one of a kind Black top Basketball court. With 3,000 available seats, there is plenty of room to come support our one of our Division One, Horizon League teams which include Mens & Womens Basketball, Womens Volleyball, and Mens and Womens Swim and Dive Teams! As an added perk, students can attend all home games for free. Site of some of the most enthusiastic crowds in the league, the atmosphere starts with one of the most vocal groups: the Grizz Gang. With great sight lines from every seat, it's a great place to come and show your school spirit!

Undergraduates who live in student housing are the university’s fastest-growing population segment. Located in the heart of campus are OU’s six residence halls. Classrooms, labs, the Rec Center, food and Kresge Library are all within a 10-minute walk. Each residence hall is a small community within itself, where events and activities are often planned together so you really get to know your neighbors — the ones you’ll celebrate milestones with and lean on during challenges. Hamlin is a freshman hall offering suite-style living for four, five or six people, sharing a private bathroom. The main floor has a large lounge with a big screen TV, vending machines, computer lab and the University Housing office.

Oak View Hall is dedicated entirely to freshman and upperclassman Honors College students. This academically-focused building offers a special way of life for its residents, integrating arts, sciences and scholarly research into daily life. Oak View Hall is also home to our Honors College. The lobby also features a cafe and convenience store, where students can use their meal plan to purchase sandwiches, snacks, and beverages. These double-occupancy rooms offer suite-style living arrangements for two people sharing a private bathroom, and feature in-room kitchenettes with microwaves and refrigerators.

Human Health Building

OU's Human Health Building is home to our School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing. With LEED Platinum certification, this building is on the cutting edge of environmentally-friendly design -- for example, its geothermal heating and cooling system aids in the reduction of carbon emissions and energy consumption and output. The Human Health Building boasts state-of-the-art classrooms, seminar rooms, and lecture halls; distance learning labs, interactive media centers, and computer-simulated clinical labs; academic and career advising centers; and a healing garden. In addition, students can experience real-life health and medical scenarios with its onsite clinical and physical therapy facility.

Hannah Hall of Science

OU's Hannah Hall of Science features advanced research laboratory facilities and renovated teaching laboratories. Here, students have the opportunity to carry out research projects at the forefront of chemical, biochemical, and environmental research -- in fact, undergraduate student research is published and on display throughout the hallways of the building. Be sure to also check out the Mathematics and Science Center, which is home to our Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics departments, as well as our Anatomy Lab. Additionally, the connected Dodge Hall is another well-known hub for research activity.

Engineering Center

The Engineering Center is home to OU's School of Engineering and Computer Science. It features state-of-the-art classrooms and research space to give students hands-on experiences related to automotive and biological engineering; alternative energy; robotics; high-tech industrial sciences; and more. It also features dedicated spaces for student organizations and senior/sophomore project courses. Several ground-breaking research and development laboratories are located inside the Engineering Center, including the Augmented Reality Center, Fastening and Joining Research Institute and the Clean Energy Research Center, to name a few. This 127,000 square foot building is certified LEED Gold for energy conservation.

Elliott Hall - Business Administration

Elliott Hall is home of OU's School of Business Administration. It boasts numerous classroom and lecture hall spaces, including multiple computer and teaching labs. This includes a data analysis lab and a trading floor equipped with Bloomberg financial terminals, and a security network instructional lab for students seeking hands-on experience in information systems, and cyber and network security. Elliott Hall also features the Stinson Center, which offers the community an informal place to study, socialize and host career enrichment activities, like education and networking events. The Healy Cafe inside Elliott serves a selection of great food items and Starbucks products.

Varner Hall

Varner Hall was named after Durwood “Woody” Varner, OU’s first chancellor. Located at the southeast corner of campus, Varner is home to our College of Arts and Sciences, OU's largest academic unit. The College is made up of 16 departments and over 100 majors, devoted to teaching and researching liberal arts, including the humanities, social sciences, visual and performing arts, and mathematical and laboratory sciences. Regardless of what you study, a liberal arts education will help you to discover new capacities within yourself, building a foundation of skills for those with the drive to succeed, the knowledge to understand, and the willingness to take action.

Varner Hall is also home to our School of Music, Theatre and Dance (or SMTD). Facilities within Varner Hall include the Varner Recital Hall, Varner Studio Theatre, Varner Laboratory Theatre, composition studio, teaching studios, practice rooms, rehearsal rooms, and resource/computer rooms. Varner Recital Hall can seat up to 425 people; the Studio Theatre capacity and seating chart varies by performance, ranging between 90-150 people. Upon admission to OU, SMTD majors must audition, and throughout their coursework, they have the opportunity to perform in more than 100 student-led productions each year!

Pawley Hall - Education & Human Services

Pawley Hall is home to OU's School of Education and Human Services. It contains 31 classrooms, eight conference rooms, and its own library known as the Educational Resources Lab, where education students can check out children’s books, teacher resources, and more. Pawley Hall also houses the Lowry Center for Early Childhood Education, an education center with programming for children from 18 months to five years of age. This center gives OU education students hands-on training as they work alongside certified teachers and other early childhood professionals. Pawley also houses the SEHS Counseling Center, where our master's degree students can gain real-world experience.

Located in the heart of campus, Kresge Library offers quiet places to read, study and work collaboratively. The library houses OU's Special Collections and University Archives, and also contains the seventh largest Abraham Lincoln collection! On the second floor, you'll find the main circulation desk, a cafe, the OU Helpdesk, and the Makers Space. The Writing Center is also located on the second floor, where students can get help on all forms of writing. On the third floor, you will find all the books available for checkout. And on the fourth floor, you'll find group study rooms and our virtual reality labs.

South Foundation Hall (Exterior)

South Foundation Hall, famous for its “Fishbowl” entrance, was one of the first buildings on campus. It offers 55,000 square feet of classroom space dedicated to student academics. Many of OU's general education courses are held here. Currently, the building is slated for a 25,000 square foot expansion and building renovation to update its technology and outfit classroom spaces with the latest teaching methods available. OU always strives to offer small classes sizes, usually averaging 35 or fewer students per class.

Wilson Hall - Admissions Welcome Center

Right now, we're in the Admissions Welcome Center -- where we welcome all students and their families to the university. Wilson Hall also has a select student services such as Disability Support Services and the Academic Success Center -- And nearby North Foundation Hall, additional support services are available in one convenient location! Here you will find offices like Student Financial Services, Orientation and New Student Programs, the Gender and Sexuality Center, Career Services, the Center for Multicultural Initiatives, the Office of the Registrar and the First Year Advising Center.

Meadow Brook Hall

A National Historic Landmark, Meadow Brook Hall is the historic home of OU's founder, Matilda Dodge Wilson. Constructed between 1926 and 1929, it was the center of a country estate that included 1,500 acres, numerous farm buildings, recreational facilities, several residences and formal gardens. The rich Meadow Brook history spans from its origins with the Dodge and Wilson Families to the founding of Meadow Brook Hall and Oakland University today. Students are able to tour Meadow Brook Hall for free! It is also where many events are hosted, including Alumni events, and the Meadow Brook Ball for students.
