Opened in 2003, the Great Lakes Campus at Northwestern Michigan College sits on the shore of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay. Home to NMC's Culinary Arts, Maritime and Water Studies programs, the campus also includes Lobdell's: A Teaching Restaurant and the Hagerty Center, a full-service conference facility.

Maritime Academy

The T/S State of Michigan is a 227-foot former Navy submarine surveillance ship, which is now the Great Lakes Maritime Academy's training ship harbored right at the NMC Great Lakes Campus. GLMA is one of only six maritime academies in the United States and the only one located on a body of fresh water. NMC offers a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Technology.

Culinary Institute

A state-of-the-art program, in a one-of-a-kind location, the Great Lakes Culinary Institute at NMC prepares students for entry-level chef and kitchen management positions. Consideration is given to the science and techniques associated with the selection preparation and serving of foods to small and large groups. Featuring four culinary labs including a bakery, introductory and food skills kitchen, and advanced cooking kitchen, a garde manger kitchen, beverage management outlet and Lobdell's, a 90-seat training restaurant, students develop an unbeatable combination of knowledge, skills and work experience.

Fresh Water Studies

Home to the nation's first associate degree in freshwater studies, the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute at NMC is strategically positioned to engage individuals and organizations, both locally and globally, in advancing skills, knowledge and understanding of the world's dynamic water resources. Water Studies provides multiple career pathways including bachelor degree programs, and collaboration with industry, government and communities. The program has some unique assets including its own research vessel Northwestern, a remotely operated underwater vehicle, sonar and a water research laboratory.
