Founded in 1870, Missouri University of Science and Technology, was founded as a school for mining and metallurgical industries and expanded with a greater emphasis on research and graduate education, awarding its first master's degree in the early 1900s and the first doctorate in 1926. Missouri S&T has a total student enrollment of approximately 9,000; about 1,800 of which are graduate students. There are over 20 doctoral programs, more than 30 master's programs, and approximately 70 graduate certificates offered at S&T. The Puck is a central location for student activities located between two of our oldest buildings on campus, Norwood Hall and the Rolla Building, and standing opposite of Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Norwood Hall is home to several offices that support graduate students like Career Opportunities and Employer Relations, Office of International and Cultural Affairs and the Office of Graduate Studies. The Rolla Building houses the Mathematics Department that has graduate degrees in applied mathematics which is used in science, engineering, business, computer science, and industry. Additionally, there is the opportunity for interdisciplinary research projects across campus.

Toomey Hall houses the graduate programs of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering. The building has 51 research and teaching laboratories, 44 offices and 10 classrooms including a distance education studio. Toomey Hall is designed to be a living classroom with exposed and color coded mechanical piping, glass walls showing the mechanical room, and a laboratory that allows students to monitor the performance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Laboratories include composite manufacturing, laser-based manufacturing, virtual reality, rapid prototyping, internal combustion engines, computational fluid dynamics, mechatronics and control, computer-numerical controlled (CNC) machining, plasma propulsion, and subsonic and supersonic wind tunnels.

Fulton Hall houses the Nuclear Engineering Department, Business and Information Technology Department, and the College of Arts, Sciences and Business. The campus is home to one of only two nuclear research reactors in the state of Missouri, and one of only 23 in the nation. The MBA and MS in Information Science and Technology programs within the Department of Business and Information Technology are designed to address the growing need in industry for people with business and management knowledge as well as information technology skill sets.

Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall houses the department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering. Butler-Carlton Hall is designed to be a living classroom/learning tool. Students can apply what they learn about loads and structures to the design of the building and study the unique architectural features of many exposed aspects, like the roof trusses and the concrete supports for the main load bearing beams in the Kummer Atrium. The SPAR lab develops building health testing methods, including microwave penetration and imbedded fiber optics for testing bridges, nuclear reactors or offshore structures. Baker Greenhouse is a rooftop laboratory where faculty and grad students explore real sustainability and environmental issues we face globally.

Our Electrical and Computer Engineering department occupies Emerson Electric Company Hall on the northeast corner of campus. 11 of 30 tenure-tenure track faculty members in the department are *IEEE* fellows, the highest percentage of faculty fellows in the nation. *IEEE* Fellow position is particularly difficult to achieve; only 0.1% of members are awarded each year. The educational focus in electrical and computer engineering is on a broad, rigorous education in all areas of electrical and computer engineering with significant hands-on experiences. There are over 20 graduate faculty members that advise students with research projects. Several labs inhabit Emerson Hall, such as the Applied Computational Intelligence, LIghtwave Technology, and Microwave labs.

Computer Science is one of S&T's fastest growing programs. The Computer Science program is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research and is accredited by the National Security Agency and the US Department of Homeland Security. A variety of research labs reside within the Computer Science department; The mission of CReWMaN Lab is to conduct innovative research in networking, mobile and pervasive computing, distributed and grid computing, privacy and security, biological networks, and social networks. The Cybersecurity Laboratory works on a range of topics, such as cryptography, privacy preserving data analysis, cloud security, big data privacy, location privacy, mobile device security, and access control.

In the Engineering Management Building, the students and faculty of the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering department are learning to bridge the gap between engineering and management through logisitics and business practices. These degree programs are extrememly interdisciplinary and require a wide range of communication, organizational, and technical skills. The discipline of engineering management was founded on our campus in 1966 and remains one of only 6 in the country. Engineering Management and Systems Engineerings students are taught to understand how individual parts of a project or task will affect the system as a whole.

McNutt Hall houses many earth sciences departments including: Ceramic Engineering, Metallurigical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Geology and Geophysics, Geological Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Explosives Engineering. These programs offer a variety of curriculum that integrates outdoor fieldwork and labratory exercise around traditional lectures. The University has an Experiemental Mine located off campus for hands-on learning and research to take place. Missouri S&T is located in beautiful and naturally diverse south-central Missouri which makes for convenient fieldwork locations, including trails, rivers, caves, and more. The Materials Science Department has a working foundry and a glass blowing lab on campus, and McNutt Hall is home to S&T's historic mineral museum.

Bertelsmeyer Hall, opened in 2015, houses the department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, and features state of the art laboratories and student facilities in a new 63,000 square foot building. There are two specialized Biochemical Engineering laboratories, one for bioseparations and one for bioreactors and fermentation. The Multi Phase Reactors and Applications Laboratory is involved in research and technological development for advancing multi-phase and multi-scale processes. The Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Laboratory is focused on research for designing novel bioresponsive nanoparticles that can efficiently deliver drugs throughout the disease site. Bertelsmeyer Hall houses research laboratories that are one of a kind in the USA and the world.
